Gives Sony plenty of time for a potential price drop.

Though I can't say I really expect it.

Why would I buy a console that doesn't have games I want to play? MGS and FF are the main reasons I want a PS3, if they are delayed, so will my purchase be. This is actually good news for me in that there should be a good price drop or two by the time it comes out.

Fermac: "SONY is my mommy"

actually, that should be "Konami is my mommy". and yes, i'd buy a PS3 alone for that game. But Konami is no fool and if the XBox 360 turns up to win this round, i'm sure Konami will deliver a port to the console. I'm sure this waiting has something to do with it.

things are truly bad for Sony if it loses this highly anticipated game...

People have been debating this all morning.

Personally I think the animations look terrible right now, but then again after a year's time worth of development I think Kojima Productions will have something far more polished as a finished product.

Sony probably pressured Kojima's team to give them some gameplay, well, there is such a thing as too early for your own good.

Just an fyi but animations look the same no matter how potentially shaky the cam may be.

By the time this game comes out, the 360 will have more than a handful of titles that will trump the production value of this game. It's sad to see Sony trying to catch up now. MGS4 coming out a full year after the Ps3 and a full 2 years after the 360 just seems like a bad idea to me.

Gears of War - year after XBOX360
Halo 3 - damn near two years after launch

- Give it a break.
- The game looks awesome and instead of trying to find insults about the PS3 games, XBOX360 should be creating games that will attract more customers. I would buy a XBOX360, but there just hasn't been enough to make me pull the trigger over getting a PS3 or Wii. Sorry guys, you're in for a pounding after this Christmas.

You mean a game that only sells about 2 million on a console with a 100 million installed base isn't the end all be all of console sales?

I was talking about MGS, but it'd apply to FF too.

I would say there are less than a handful of titles on any system that trump the production value of MGS2 and MGS3, and they've been out for some time now. And please spare me the Gears of War argument, because the game isn't even out yet. While I am looking forward to playing it, it could very well end up being a flop.

#5 you have to be AdeptVoice from kotaku. the exact same thing was said over there.

anyway, the point is they have been selling this game based on those cutscene trailers saying what the ps3 is capable of. yeah, capable of for cutscenes. IF this is actual game play, it doesn't come anywhere near those cutscenes. just like killzone won't, just like madden 06 for 360 didn't. those cutscenes are marketing strategies, nothing more. then when actual gameplay like this is supposed to be comes out, and it looks like shit, people are pissed and the flame wars begin. if MGS4 ends up looking like the CUTSCENES they have shown so far, then i will buy a ps3 to play that game. because then i will know that it is capable. but right now, i don't see anything tell me it looks or plays any better than a 360, which i already have. and MGS4 or Final Fantasy so far isn't enough to make me buy something else. although, i'll buy the wii for mario galaxy and red steel because it's $250. lol

This game is going to be hot and i ACTUALLY played all the metal gears and not just judged it, and if anybody knows hideo thru playing one of his games he always delivers and pushes the playstaion graphics to its limits...mgs 2 and # were the best looking sony playstation games.

And though I wouldnt compare this to a 360 game I know it will look better than most of those clones that xbox has to offer, trust me I own one...the problem I have is with the unreal 3 engine most of the games that use it look the same (plastic humans) especailly gears of war and too human. but i know its because devs dont wanna spend major money to build their own engines just takes to long.

so im happy when the ps3 launches and will be picking one up and a wii, and then my 360 will just collect dust and only get used for exclusives.

So Regula

If a fact has no physical existence, then that usually means the "fact" you are stating is False. So I'm just guessing you just spew forth whatever you think will shake up the tree to get people pissed and just sit back and laugh.

What are you talking about in for a pounding? Please, name me all of these AAA titles you are excited about for PS3?? Where are they? Resistance, okay, I will give you that it will be a great game. What else? Where is this PS3 library that is being hailed as superior to the current Xbox 360 library? I don't see it. There is going to be just as much crap on the PS3 as there is on the 360 right now, as well as a few great games like the 360 has now. After Christmas, the same killer apps on PS3 are also on 360, such as Assassins Creed and Bioshock. Face it, MGS was one of the killer apps for PS3, and now it will have to go up against Halo 3. Who will be taking the pounding I ask? We will see. I can't say for sure that the 360 won't get pummeled by the PS3, but it certainly won't be on the strentgh of library, that's for damn sure.

The thing is that everyone is talking about how there are not that many ANNOUNCED exclusives for the PS3; umm...the console hasn't launched yet and we already know of a few. Secondly, as long as I can play the popular games on both systems then I don't care if every system on the planet has the game.

I don't think the PS3 will kill the XBOX360, but it does have competition from both the PS3 and Wii. The system hasn't taken full advantage of its head start and has nothing innovative in the pipeline to fight the launch of these TWO systems this Christmas.

Finally, I just want to play a TRUE next-generation Madden that has all the features of the past generation series. Sony has proven that they are capable of motivating third party development on their console throughout the entire console lifecycle. They don't leave a system hanging once the new one comes out. The fact of the matter is that I don't need every game in my collection to be a AAA title. I need to be able to go to the store and see a game that isn't necessarily super popular but offers me something different from the run of the mile. The Playstation library of games has offered me that opportunity for the past two generations. They've had games that have come out of nowhere and created whole new series as well as continued support for existing series. This is the same reason I like Nintendo. Microsoft just hasn't challenged the envelope in anyway meaningful to me; that may not be the case for you but I don't really care.

Oblivion isn't an MMO, read some reviews.

Halo3 is being rumourmongered as releasing in March 2007, up against PS3's Euro launch (although, at the time the rumours started, PS3 was still supposed to be launching worldwide with 2 million units in November).

We've only seen the tip of the iceberg on what this generation's consoles can deliver. Check out the gameplay footage of Tony Hawk's Project 8 to see some really impressive material. It seems like developers are really starting to put some effort into building proper biomechanically correct models and using physics as the main driver for animations.

By comparison, at this point, the animations in MGS4 are disappointing. I should think that with another year plus of development time, that can and will change.

It's too bad your heart isn't a mirror of reality.

Just because YOU think it's big doesn't mean it really is. MGS sells well for a video game. It sold about 1/10 that of GTA, though. And about 1/4 that of Halo. And certainly less than Splinter Cell.

I don't believe for a second that Halo 3 will launch next spring. there's absolutely no reason for it do so. the movie will not come out until 2008 at this point (based on the state of pre-production and the fact they haven't cast any of the roles yet), the PS3 is launching in march to a group of people Sony has violated in the rear more than once, and who in their right mind launches their killer app in march? that's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of.

but it's still not as dumb as the GTHD rumor. that's turbodumb.

MGS on PS1 and the remake on Cube were awesome - innovative gameplay (at the time for the PS1), interesting characters, cool story. From start to finish it was an exciting experience - one of those games that stick in the memory forever.

The boat section at the start in MGS2 was OK, but the rest was horrible. Atrocious story (if you can call it that), boring, stupid characters.

I didn't like MGS3 it just felt dated and showed the series as needing a serious shot in the arm.

The MGS4 cut scenes that have been hawked around the net look amazing, but they are just cut scenes even if they are rendered using the game engine. The actual gameplay footage looks like more of the same. I'm bored by MGS and for me this is not a killer app on ANY system. The chances of it coming out on the 360 are pretty high as well so why all the Sony fanboy excitement?

Sony need to start looking at new exclusive franchises; and as good as I suspect Resistance will be I don't expect it to be remebered alongside the Halo series (which personally I'm not that keen on), Farcry, or Half Life.

Add in the rumoured microtransactioned to death Gran Tourismo and Sony are only really left with Final Fantasy as a killer exclusive RPG franchise - but then Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon look fresher than recent Final Fantasy drivel.

I couldn't care less about the 360 / PS3 comparative graphics, and I couldn't care less about Blu-Ray, the Cell, HD-DVD, or 1080p output - if a console has good games I'll buy it. At the moment Sony are floundering.

I also wonder, why don't we judge a game's popularity primarily by its sales relative to install base?

MGS is an awesome series, but let's not pretend it doesn't appeal to a rather limited market. selling a couple million units in a market of 100 million isn't as impressive as something like Dead Rising, which isn't a launch title, selling more than a half-million in two weeks with a market of less than ten million. if you're super bad at math, that would be the equivalent of selling five million units in two weeks with the PS2 install base.

my point is, MGS4 will sell a lot of systems, but no matter how good it is I bet a mediocre PS3 title with a wider audience will sell a lot more.

PS the footage is good, but the animations really _aren't_ up to the standard of the E3 video.

This just shows how next-gen games are turning into massive, long, and expensive productions.

This is why we are seeing so few AAA-titles for the PS3, and they are taking so long to come out. It's also driving the price of games up, and preventing smaller developers from competing with the major developers. This is not good.

@ 13. "I would buy a PS3 to play that game. I would eat a hot dog backwards to play that game."

does that mean In_the_butt ?? If not, how does one actually eat a hot dog backwards.. ??

No doubt that Metal Gear is a franchise that has influenced a ton of material. If MGS:Snake Eater was any indication of how much more-awesome a franchise can get after putting out 2 really impressive titles, I cant even begin to imagine how the actual game-play quality of MGS4 will be.

Until you get your hands on it, and play it for yourself, there is no-way you can form an educated opinion on the game.. You cant. I will refrain from judgement on this subject other then my statement above, which is based on the upward momentum of the franchise from its initial offerings up through MGS3. MGS4 will probably continue the trend.. They wouldn't spend so much time on the game if they didn't intend to make it great.

Microsoft's fiscal year ends in March, and frankly, I think Halo's the point where you can release it at any time and sell a couple million units over night. Given that the first two are still at the top of the Xbox sales charts means that it's also an evergreen title. Once it's on the market, it's just going to keep selling.

There has also been a trend lately to get out of the holiday period and to list titles in the traditional slow periods for games, though normally you would try to get your less appreciated titles out at that time. GRAW and Oblivion did both launch in or around March this year.

But all of that is really off topic, I didn't mean for this to become a discussion about Halo, I just wanted to respond that it may not be a year off.

i'm American. i own Oblivion (on my PC, like most of the "killer" 360 titles that have been released just now. "No wait, what about Call of -" nope. PC too. "well, there's Condem-" nope. PC. "Well, Half Life 2 and F.E.A.R are-" nope. on my PC. but i digress), and it is boring as all shit. i was playing it just last night, because i bought into the hype of the game, thinking it would be one of the best RPG's only, and it's simply a very pretty, but insanely boring and repetitive hack n' slack dungeon crawler.

it had a lot of promise, and there are glimmers of an interesting story, but i find myself just pursuing the main quest, as branching off to explore the country side is just boring (and i'm the kind of person that loves that sort of thing in games). the problem is that there really isn't much there. i've seen the same deer run across my path, been attacked by the same bandits and wolves like clockwork over and over again.

the thing i liked about other sandbox games like GTA San Andreas, for example, is that there was so much to do inbetween your main quest, and other little odds and ends to make the experience feel real. wandering around the countryside, exploring caves and forts that look just like the last 20 isn 't as entertaining as i thought it would be.

i tried to like Oblivion, and during the first week i had it, i did. now, if, say, Oblivion had the massive, wide-open world, with a lot more varied creatures and wildlife roaming around (where are the birds?), and maybe a combat system like, say, Prince of Persia or God of War, i'd be more intrigued. hold on, you say Assassin's Creed is like that(three gigantic cities and the countryside and desert in-between, and a combat and locomotion mechanic in the vein of Prince of Persia)? hell, i think i'd much rather play that one.

oh, yeah, and on topic...please, for the love of God, wait for high def or higher res quality footage of this gameplay before passing judgement. i haven't seen a single game that looked good when captured from a shaky handy-cam.

hell, i took screenshots of Splinter Cell, Crackdown, Too Human, and Huxley with my cell phone at E3 this year, and it didn't look amazing. does that mean the games suck? i'm sure if this was on the 360, a lot of you dissenters would be creaming your pants for it. stop hating it simply because it's coming out on a Sony platform.

But if I was "controlling" the drum I would jump out of the drum and give the MENTOS thumbs up after killing 2 armed guards with an oil drum.
