Ubisoft "accidentally" leaks tons of assets
Over two gigs worth of screenshots, videos, and concept art was apparently accidentally posted by Ubisoft on their public ftp server. Whoops. While some of these games have already been announced, some haven't, although there aren't any real surprises here: Assassins Creed, Farcry 2, Farcry PSP, Farcry Wii, Lost, Naruto, Open Season, Prince of Persia, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Rocky PSP, Splinter Cell Double Agent, Splinter Cell Conviction, Surf's Up, Star Wars PSP, Shaun White, TMNT, and TMNT GBA. Ubisoft isn't too pleased about the leak either, stating,"The publication of this type of information can only be harmful to the game development process and we will take all steps necessary to prevent this from happening in the future."
While we can understand why Ubisoft wouldn't want employees or summer interns posting confidential information on the internet, how does it harm the game development process? We can understand if the raw code for Splinter Cell: Conviction got out, or if a disgruntled programmer posted a disk image of Far Cry 2, but screenshots and videos? And while TGS is unfolding?
Color us suspicious.

The posts lambasting the spelling mistakes on the leaked Assassin's Creed pause screen might demoralize the team so much that they can't continue. Perfectly reasonable assumption to make.

It's dangerous because when info is leaked and fans start speculating expectations start to rise beyond what may actually be in the game. Causing a good game to fail for no good reason.

This is damaging to Ubisoft because it reveals information that is typically leveraged by the publisher to obtain mag covers, exclusive article space online, and other promotion type press coverage. When a publisher reveals all the titles accidentally like this, they lose the opportunity to give a website or mag "the exclusive" scoop.

I've heard this leaked... It's regarding Assassin's Creed and could be considered a spoiler so DONT READ if you aren't interested in hearing it:
Apparently it's not all in the past, but a futuristic type game where you controller the assassin through a computer form the future.

Ubisoft slapped me with a copyright infringement for distributing the unwatermarked trailer to Heroes for Wii (was featured on Joystiq a while back). I understand it was an accident to release it, but seriously, do you think you can really contain that kind of thing once it hits the net? Is there any real fallout from getting free advertising? IMO, it's really stupid to try to contain a media leak on the 'net, you just can't do it. You just gotta play it off.
So, Ubisoft, if your reading this, TAKE A CHILL PILL! And unblock my Heroes trailer on YouTube too, that video was pretty popular...

Some of the stuff in there is amazing. The renders and models for far cry 2 are really cool, and the concept art for SC 5 is very impressive. I wish I could see more concept art for games, because this stuff is really cool.

Is that real gameplay of Assasins creed?
Is there a place to get those AC screens bigger?
Don Jose @ Sep 22nd 2006 4:10AM
All I can say is that there's one game on that list that's a far cry away from warranting a sequel.

I maden an wallpaper out of one of the assasins creed pics. Here it is in case someone wants to use it: http://koti.mbnet.fi/helppia/creed.jpg
