PictoChat users sign off on Ken's keynote

While waiting for Ken Kutaragi's Tokyo Game Show keynote to begin, we fired up our trusty DSs to capture the zeitgeist of the audience: a mixture of press, VIPs, camerapeople, and sneaky stowaways. Despite a slow start, the chatroom quickly filled up and, by the time the speech began, they were all chatting up a storm.
Yes, we know, that DS users feedback on Sony's latest and greatest may seem a bit unbalanced, but only if you subscribe to a one console, one gamer mentality. Many of the people in this chatroom were just as excited to be there as we were, and just as hopeful that Ken had an ace up his sleeve.
Read on for more clever quips and creative artwork from inside the Sony TGS keynote.

Forget the Ace! Ken's got a can of beer up his sleeve. Mmmmm, beeeeer.

Killer crabs indeed. Wrong keynote we're afraid.

Predictions of the keynote's contents. It's Full True HD now.

Take note, there were no 12-year-olds in the crowd anywhere. Grown men (maybe women) are responsible for the above.

A disappointed stowaway.

"It actually is a George Foreman grill." That's what the suits call a "value add."

The PS3 will play Wii games? Oh, you're wondering about that line above it ... we have no idea.

We think this is supposed to be the M$ (that's how the cool kids write Microsoft) dragon eating a PS3. Or it's a snake wearing an M$ hat and kissing a PS3 ... we've got a call out to our sources for verification.

Where were the pictochat pictures from the other keynotes? Were they not as funny? oh wait. I get it, those keynotes were actually somewhat interesting. My bad.
Amos @ Sep 22nd 2006 2:30AM
Wiiiiiiii...now how bout what was said in the keynote? ;)
Kite @ Sep 22nd 2006 3:10AM
lol until I put on my glasses and saw the ace on that card I thought it was someone telling him to go "down the street" with a razor :X

Hey it's me! Sorry mom. But the truth had to be told.
Jools @ Sep 22nd 2006 4:50AM
Ah, my adolescent ramblings revealed for all to see!
KaneRobot @ Sep 22nd 2006 8:48AM
This is my favorite Joystiq post in months. "My mom is a dirty whore" wins.
Joseph Villalobos @ Sep 22nd 2006 9:21AM
OMG, this is great!

I think Pictochat was created for this one purpose: for videogame keynotes. Does anyone else use it for anything?

Sony Computer Entertainment presents - "You know your division's in trouble when..."
- During a keynote address in your home territory, a large portion of the audience is talking amongst themselves using the competition's handheld device.
But I kid (mostly). Here's hoping Sony has some great stuff in store for the show proper, so we can all either forget about this keynote or look back on it and laugh. I know which one I'll be doing. ;)

Joystiq: "We're not biased against Sony!"
omg @ Sep 22nd 2006 10:54AM
Wow I wonder why I keep reading Joystiq with blogs like this. Please dont be idiots there are people actually interested in what happened.
Tom Fronczak @ Sep 22nd 2006 12:13PM
Hahaha. I thought Joystiq was all about professionalism lately, this is no where near that but I definitely enjoyed every pic - thanks!
Jamie Martin @ Sep 22nd 2006 12:27PM
Um, you sure that is an ACE up his sleeve or is it a razor blade slashing his wrists?
Komrade Kayce @ Sep 22nd 2006 12:49PM
See, I like when Joystiq posts stuff like this. Theres a difference between being professional, and being boring. This is neat stuff, even the stuff that is non TGS related right now Im reading because its interesting. I think if they covered nothing *but* in depth game news all the time, they would be just another boring game news blog.
But instead, I get to read about people using nintendo devices to point out microsoft devouring competition during a sony keynote. Thats awsome in its own little way.
I feel bad for that kid having a whore for a mother however... :)
ImMrDurp @ Sep 22nd 2006 4:51PM
Why are you using DS Phats? WHERE ARE THE DS LITES?!?!?!?
Matt @ Sep 22nd 2006 11:43PM
Well, his mom *is* a dirty whore.

"10. I think Pictochat was created for this one purpose: for videogame keynotes. Does anyone else use it for anything?"
Yes, drawing penises. Lots of penises.

"I think if they covered nothing *but* in depth game news all the time, they would be just another boring game news blog."
That's right Komrade, and you know what that would mak them? "Kotaku". :) Speaking of which, they linked to this, which I thought was funny.
Babylonian @ Sep 23rd 2006 2:02PM
What the hell, guys? Joystiq has been boring me lately, but I thought this article was hilarious. I would love to participate in a Sony Keynote PictoChat conversation.
And why is anyone surprised that the people who brought their DSs to Sony's keynote HAPPEN TO BE fanboys?
lol@cha @ Sep 23rd 2006 5:40PM
Yea, wouldn't be here if I didn't hit that link. Free advertising to joystick. Nice chat screens.... and whatever you people are saying about needing to be professional? It's a gaming blog. ;/
Jonah Falcon @ Sep 24th 2006 1:13AM
Well, maybe his Mom needs some Stayfree to "feel fresh".
