Joystiq hands-on: PaRappa the Rapper (PSP)

The PSP demo shown on the floor is the exact same demo Sony used for the PS One PaRappa the Rapper demo, which is also the first level in the game. For those who don't remember, PaRappa the Rapper is a rhythm game in the vein of Simon Says. Your opponent will bust a few grooves, and by pressing the displayed button combinations in sync with the tempo you can spit your foe's words back in his or her face. The demo has PaRappa up against Chop Chop Master Onion, a karate teacher with an onion for a head.
The graphics have been cleaned up and the audio is a bit crisper than the original, but our lovable rhymester still stutters his words even when we hit the buttons perfectly. None of the new features have been revealed, including the promised multiplayer mode. We recommend dusting off the original game for now, and wait to see if the extra features / multiplayer warrant a new purchase.
Check out the awesome PaRappa sticker they had on the PSP demo units after the break.

If they're porting the PSX library to the PSP, then wouldn't this be redundant?

What's your favorite PaRappa the Rapper line? I'm going with
"The other day I was called a little turkey
But I'm a chicken, got it? Ya beef jerky!"

Actually, Traxion for the PSP, being published by LucasArts, will be a game in the vein of VR.
You take tracks from your PSP music library, and you can pay 25 minigames based around them.

I have fond memories of this game, but I never bought it because back then I was young and cheap and poor.
Now I'm a college student who is still cheap and poor, though now I prefer the words impecunious and frugal.
Thats why I haven't gotten a PSP yet, toooo much money. But, Parappa along with LocoRoco and a few others might just convince me to get one... when I have the money anyway ;)
And whenever I think of Parappa I always think of the baking song.
"Crack crack crack the egg into the bowl.
Mix mix mix the flour into the bowl.
Butter butter butter joins the bowl."

I just bought the PSP version from Japan, it's mega FUN, and it allows you to switch the language from Japanese to English. Just select MENU> then choose the top left image, and press X. O is for Japanese, X is for English.
