TGS best-in-show award: Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo all win

In the words of the committee, these are the "best games showing particular promise" (in no particular order):

Elebits, Gran Turismo HD, and Eye of Judgement?
Don't make me laugh.
Cardboard Samurai @ Sep 24th 2006 12:39AM
So Sony gets 7 out of 11 titles on the chart, and "everyone" wins? Something tells me if Wii or 360 had 7/11, you guys would be declaring an pwnage with sony being the pwnee. >_>
I only think this because 75% of Sony news = BAD, and 75% of 360/Wii news = PRAISE.
Kris @ Sep 24th 2006 12:40AM
Am I the only one who doesn't see what's so amazing about the Gran Turismo series?
icelandman @ Sep 24th 2006 12:49AM
Something has to be said for how diverse the list is, it covers a lot of bases and manages to cover all they systems. But as always, judgment reserved, is judgment well kept.
azesino @ Sep 24th 2006 12:51AM
Elebits and GT HD who vote for this things... I mean leaving out LOST ODYSSEY is unforgetable,
LOST ODYSSEY was the 'Best of the Show' even with its short gameplay demo, just because it showed alot of promisses, no other game has left me in SHOCK and AWE in such way since MGS2 a couple of years back, even Hironobu Sakaguchi was humble with the demo because he have so much planed for it and as we saw it , it still half way on development, he stated that LOST ODYSSEY and Blue Dragon are his biggest projects.

Dude, shut the fuck up.
If you want a conspiracy theory, try looking up 'Fluoridization' and 'Commie' or a fake moon landing.
Christ.
rockintom99 @ Sep 24th 2006 1:57AM
I have to agree with azesino here, Lost Odyssey looks pretty amazing. Its jumps between battle, and CG, are almost unnoticeable. And *during* battle, with its *thousands* of background enemies... it is seriously amazing.
Lost Planet looks like a hell of a lot of fun, though. Had I a 360, I would pick that up as soon as it shipped.

this just one more reminder that America needs E3. I know that so are but I was not even remotly intrested in any of these games. Why does America not have a big gaming convention anymore? The games showen in other countries game convention's are for the people in that region. I am growing tired of jornalist saying that these other Gaming conventions will replace E3 maybe for them but for those of us who don't get to go to them it can't even come close. Maybe someone who works at joystiq can help me understand all this. What is going to happen to fix this problem. I mean America is the worlds largest gaming region, how can we not have a big gaming convention.
arch @ Sep 24th 2006 1:47AM
sony could be in this article being called the "also winner" but they really werent even close. their presentation was horrible and almost no games. there was AFRICA.
i dont care what the fanboys say the onyl true winners were MS and nintendo. shockingly.
n8dogg @ Sep 24th 2006 1:59AM
Bash the PS3 and can't even spell "Afrika" right. Shame, shame.
And I think it's pretty silly to say that Sony had almost no games shown. Whether or not you thought the stuff was good, you can't deny the fact that Sony showed a good deal of playable, real time games.
Heh... onyl. I wonder if people read their posts before they hit the "Add Your Comments" button.
socrates @ Sep 24th 2006 2:01AM
Arch -
You don't care what you say?
The article wasn't about Sony's presentation, it was about the games. Which has little to do with Sony, and a lot do to with the developers.
James @ Sep 24th 2006 2:09AM
Trusty Bell should have been on that list.
AzaMcWazza @ Sep 24th 2006 6:15AM
Elebits? HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Oh my!
HAHAHAHAHA!
Oop, sorry about that...Elebits being on the list has totally destroyed any credibility that list has.
#3, no, you're not the only one.
VerticalEvent @ Sep 24th 2006 7:22AM
Interesting...
The 360 (2) got more awards then the Wii (1), and one less then the amount of awards given to the PS3 (3). Also, the PSP (2) has more then the DS (1). I defnitly wouldn't of expected any of this.
I would of expected to see the Wii clean up, with the PS3 in second, and the XBox 360 in a distant third (maybe with 0 awards) for the consoles, and the DS dominating over the PSP.
Jules @ Sep 24th 2006 7:43AM
Wow, there's a lot of people laughing at Elebits here. I guess since you've played it your comments are justified...oh no wait, you haven't played it. So your basing your decision on what??...the graphics?
The list is for games showing 'particular promise', which suggests to me that they should be something different and the potential to be big sellers. Although even i'm not a big fan of the graphics that have been shown for Elebits, it does look like it could be a lot of fun, especially with 4 people in the room.
So until you've tried it (and joystiq the game may have improved considerably since E3) how about just respecting a list of games that was compiled from the views of thousands of attendees.
uchiha5 @ Sep 24th 2006 9:03AM
Im actually surprised to see Wii on this list at all being that Wii barely had a presence at TGS.
SquirrelPhister @ Sep 24th 2006 9:12AM
3. Kris:
"Am I the only one who doesn't see what's so amazing about the Gran Turismo series?"
I thought GT3 was amazing. then 4 did nothing new. and the new 'HD' one is just 4 again..... in 1080p instead of 1080i. whoop-de-shit
Ethan @ Sep 24th 2006 10:15AM
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Sony gets 7 out of 11 votes, and according to Joystiq, Everyone wins. Man, are you guys just pussys afraid that you will hurt the other 2 companies feelings, or can you not do simple math? Because right about now, you sound like a Grandma at a T-ball game.
Methane47 @ Sep 24th 2006 10:26AM
OMG Who ever thought lost odessy should have been on there is a MS fanboi for sure.
The game had AMAZING CG (Granted the main character looked gay but still)... Then The Actually Game... OMG it was like watching rocks grow... yes rocks...
Lost Odyssey plays like a frickin Plane crash... It's exciting for a little bit... Then your excitement dies like a hot fart..
And you guys are all retarded.. OF COURSe Sony is going to have the most awards because TGS is a Sony event pretty much... MS and Nintendo hardly have a presence there.
phipscube @ Sep 24th 2006 11:50AM
I wondered if you guys at joystiq would have the balls to say Sony won, as they clearly did. I guess not.
Cyrix_0 @ Sep 24th 2006 2:10PM
Admit it
PS3
Cyrix_0 @ Sep 24th 2006 2:10PM
Admit it Folks...you making fools out of yourselves...
PS3 and PSP had better showing and Much MUCH more to Offer to the TGS Public...
So its a fair assesment...
What exaclty did Xbox360, or Wii have to get peoples votes...
Nonetheless... PS3 Games and the Total Package is Looking Great... owns any other second rate attempts for a NEXT-GEN transition...
(cough) Xbox360... you call that next-gen, its beens year I am still waiting for some Definitive Games (cough)
pyrosity @ Sep 24th 2006 12:47PM
I imagine joystiq was torn between saying that everybody won--or acknowledging Sony's holding of a majority of best of show awards while simultaneously acknowledging that it was to be expected that Sony would do so well at TGS (considering how small of appearances 360 and Wii games made there).
Which option would piss fewer people off and in what way, one might ask, if they were aspiring to do some crowd control?
Your Good Twin @ Sep 24th 2006 9:02PM
Honestly, I'm surprised at the very little talk about White Knight Story. People talk about LO's switches between CG and gameplay. WKS blew me away in much the same way, jumping from running around with dialogue and acting right into battle. It actually reminds me a whole lot of Knights of the Old Republic, but more as a JRPG (did I get any eyebrow shifts?). If you haven't seen the gameplay video, I beSEECH you to seek it out. The gameplay looks inventive and extremely fun. It's the first game to REALLY make me want a PS3.
chimp o death @ Sep 24th 2006 12:40PM
The win/lose analysis is based no:
1)the fact that since the 360 is as "hot" as the Gizmondo in Japan, placing two titles on the list is an amazing turnaround in the console's perception in that country.
2)Nintendo placed a single Wii title that was on no one's radar, and they don't even support this show in a big way.
3)Sony placed a number of titles for PS3 and PSP and PS2. It can't be called an outright win because as everyone always tells us, Sony owns the Japanese mindshare. So shouldn't they have owned this poll?
For the PS3, 3 games out of 11 is 27.3% of the list.
the 360 gets a 18.9% for two titles. If that represents next gen console interest in Japan (although it probably doesn't) the gap between 360/PS3 has just narrowed. So not a soul destroying win for Sony.
4) Giving more weight to the PSP/PS2 games seems irrelevant, as the big PR battle is next-gen (for further reading, see any Hira/.Kutugari press releases).

Josh @ Sep 24th 2006 1:54PM
Elebits? Have they actually even played the game or seen it in motion? The terrible graphics should be enough to turn people away initially before they see how repetitive and sub-standard the gameplay looks. Seriously, this list is almost unbelievably inaccurate.
Dilusion @ Sep 24th 2006 3:15PM
Gran Turismo HD maybe reason enough for me to get the PS3. I may of even considering buying the system if it was just a more reasonable price.
Elebits isn't much of an interesting game for me. I would love to see more of Gundam and Red Steel. I wished they also released some info on Disaster: Day of Crisis. I have yet to see even a glimpse on any of this game's gameplay.
The DS lineup this season looks as promising as ever. I'm surprized that there is not much hype on Contact [DS]. The new Phoenix Wright should be another great title for the system. TGS sure hit a lot of the greatest games to be coming up.
BennoWii @ Sep 24th 2006 4:08PM
for all you saying that sony won, consider the following:
- nintendo had almost no prescence at the show.
- the 360 isn't the hottest thing in japan.
so the fact that both consoles picked up awards despite almost not being there and being in a country where there isn't even a big three is pretty impressive.
hence, everyone won.
Ignatius @ Sep 25th 2006 7:44AM
@2
Nintendo didn't even go to TGS and they won awards. lawl.
Sababaaa @ Sep 24th 2006 7:10PM
Also, consider the fact that:
Microsoft only had one system on the show floor, while Sony had three.... Sony having a 7:3 (2.3 games per platform) ratio and Microsoft grabbing a 2:1 (2 games per platform) ratio, I would say everybody did indeed win here. And since nintendo was barely at the show, their 2:2 (I'll let you do the math on that one) ratio isn't too shabby either.
Dilusion @ Sep 24th 2006 8:57PM
I was told that Nintendo wasn't even going to have an appearance in this show. In the past TGS's, Nintendo had very little involvement. The fact that they even made an appearance to this show and making this much impact has a lot to say about Tokyo's love for this company. It's not very apparent to me why they are not the main feature in TGS.
soop @ Sep 25th 2006 9:36AM
Everyone shut up - the winner is ME!!!
I get to know that two of my most anicipated games are nearing release, and it looks like they're gonna be AWESOME!!
I'm talking about Monster Hunter Portable 2nd, and Metal gear for reals on the PSP! I'm so happy :D Also, dawn of mana might be worth getting, I'll look into that.
But sony/microsoft/nintendo - whatever! It's the games I care about.
