We're sitting here in Ventrilo, playing some DotA, running around creeping, the opponents we're sleeping
When we first saw Basshunter's awesome "Anna" video we longed to bring it to Joystiq, but it just wasn't game related. The 21-year-old DJ phenom has corrected that situation with his release of "Vi sitter i Ventrilo och spelar DotA" (from his second album, entitled LOL <(^^,)>) an infectious dance number about playing Defense of the Ancients, a custom map for real-time strategy game Warcraft III.
If your last name starts with A through M, you can play this video today. If your last name starts with N through Z, you'll have to wait until tomorrow. (Sorry for the restriction, but if ya'll played it all at once, it'd melt the icecaps, it's so hot.)
PS: This song is supposedly #2 on Sweden's pop music charts.

GOD DAMMIT!!!
I just realized I've been living my entire life in the wrong fucking country--- little did I know that a life of dancing with hot Swedish chicks at LAN raves to shitty trance music has been going on without me all this time!
DAMN YOU JOYSTIQ!!!

I'm digging the song, but come on. DotA? I hate it with a vengeance. Enfos is where it's at.
Jason @ Sep 25th 2006 10:08PM
The music video doesn't coordinate with the song, but then again, what music video does? At first I thought it was a joke until I saw the monitor of them actually playing DotA. Someone needs to make subtitles for Sean Paul's videos. He might actually be talking about the Wii and the next gen console war.
canebi @ Sep 25th 2006 10:12PM
This is the most uninspired crap I've heard since anything to come out of American Idol.

mynameisohyeah @ Sep 25th 2006 11:12PM
These videos spread through my entire dorm overnight. They're so addictive and awesome. We played both songs at our next dance. It was sweet.
Dr.Swiss @ Sep 25th 2006 11:12PM
It's a song about a custom map for WCIII? Seriously??? Not a mod or a total conversion or anything but just a custom map?
Is it like the map of the century that has a cult following or something? I didn't even think WCIII got more hype/popularity then WCII or StarCraft.
Can someone explain to me why this custom map rocks his socks?
Also, can someone point me to the Diablo rave?
Mr_Snuffle @ Sep 25th 2006 11:30PM
Probably a little biased because I'm not a fan of dance music, but I thought that was complete garbage.
synergy @ Sep 26th 2006 12:27AM
Hm, that ain't Trance. That's techno. Cheesy music to even cheesier lyrics. Ugh. That hurt my ears.
Crosswayboy @ Sep 26th 2006 12:33AM
synergy,
I don't know what you consider trance, but the whole rest of the electronic music listening world calls that shit trance. If it's cheesy and has some big synth melody of the beat, that's trance e.g. Tiesto, PVD, Ferry Corsten, Armen Van Buren, BT etc. If you wanna hear some techno, then try listening to some Richie Hawtin/Plastikman, Sven Vath, Mauro Piccoto, Adam Beyer, Jeff Mills, etc. The difference is like night and day.
Bryan @ Sep 26th 2006 12:39AM
...I wan't to be a Swedish DJ Phenomenon. I don't get the same reaction from girls when mentioning Warcraft...or any videogame for that matter...
Zomboy @ Sep 26th 2006 3:46AM
So, I wonder if they actually bothered to get Blizzard's permission to use their sounds in the song.
Blue Spotted Frog @ Sep 26th 2006 12:45AM
This isn't Trance or Techno. It's called Eurodance. Just to set the record straight.
Nice find, Vlad.
Ferior @ Sep 26th 2006 1:05AM
Man, I wish that my DotA skills were good enough to get me laid.
PayTheMan @ Sep 26th 2006 1:20AM
A combination of the comments in this section along with the success of Basshunter in Sweden does a good job of showing how accepted video games are in countries other than the USA.
Satertek @ Sep 26th 2006 1:47AM
Awesome, I loved Botten Anna. This is even better.
Ninjay @ Sep 26th 2006 2:04AM
If you've never heard good electronic music, I can understand why you would like this. Cheese/Crap Trance songs like this are the entry into the good stuf that comes later on. I completely hated both songs you linked in the post, but honestly if I hadn't heard that much I probably would fall in love with the overly-simplistic chorus.
Wilson @ Sep 26th 2006 2:12AM
Is it me, or the lyrics are just plain stupid on both songs?, he's just saying one phrase over and over and over... argh.
Kennie @ Sep 26th 2006 2:35AM
OK, first off, I hate Basshunter. Being from Sweden and all, I hear his stupid music day in and day out (yes, you were right, Sweden IS a monotone country. Second off ... No, that's about it.
FSK405K @ Sep 26th 2006 3:56AM
lol the footage switches from pc monitors at a lan party to some sexy dancers. MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE!
Mikael @ Sep 26th 2006 5:57AM
Gnnh Damnit. Ok, I'm gonna make songs on how shitty you are, Basshunter.
Adrian (the Swede) @ Sep 26th 2006 5:58AM
Hahah, I actually heard this the first time about a year ago.. One of my friends sent it to me over MSN. It was the same with "Boten Anna" though. All the gamers hear it and get tired of it, then all of a sudden, it's number 1 on the radio :P The only thing that's left for Sweden to become a gamer's paradise now would be for the big companies to stop ignoring Europe, and for the government to lower the taxes on games so we don't have to pay more than other countries ^^
inlogic @ Sep 26th 2006 7:00AM
Crap music. This ain't trance, this is as lamme as Tiësto and Bob Sinclar
Ndric @ Sep 26th 2006 7:59AM
If only Swedish girls weren't 7 ft tall..
the Brayn @ Sep 26th 2006 8:12AM
Blue Spotted Frog has it correct, this is not Techno or Trance it is Eurodance. Even Basshunter himself defines his music as Eurodance as can be seen here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basshunter
Most (not all) Trance has simplistic lyrics and these are both very lyric heavy songs. This is most similar to Dance or House music here in the US.
Sagan @ Sep 26th 2006 8:23AM
Footy > DotA

"27. Is it me, or the lyrics are just plain stupid on both songs?, he's just saying one phrase over and over and over... argh."
You know most song are like that nowadays. Expect rap.
_habit_ @ Sep 26th 2006 10:00AM
"If your last name starts with A through M, you can play this video today. If your last name starts with N through Z, you'll have to wait until tomorrow."
That reminds me of this radio advertisement for cheap real estate I've heard, except it says tomorrow after 8 AM, and I've heard it on 2 different days >_>
Dave @ Sep 26th 2006 3:55PM
Gaaahh! im swedish and i hate that song! he is a friking noob just so you know! gaah! Most of the people in sweden with brains dont like that song.
Do round it up: Sucks, noob and swedish.
zxcv @ Sep 26th 2006 5:24PM
that is the gayest sh1t i've ever seen !!! If it was the US they will tear the crap out of whoever made this song.
Ninjay @ Sep 26th 2006 6:18PM
Raise your hand if you don't give a rat's ass what goddamn genre it is, but rather that this song is shit.
bill pullman @ Sep 26th 2006 6:29PM
this song makes my neck cold.
soupbase @ Oct 5th 2006 1:10AM
When the video shows the dota screen, it reveals he's playing by himself. Also, nothing special at all about the music.
