If you we're dreaming about nabbing a cheaper PS3 on launch day, you can go ahead and wake up. Following Kenny K's notorious TGS keynote, the Interwebs were rife with cheap PS3 speculation after it was announced the Japan's pricing on the base 20 gig unit would receive a nice little price drop. Unfortunately, according to Gamersmark, it ain't gonna happen:"Sony has now confirmed that the price cut for the 20GB Playstation 3 is confined only to Japan. No price reduction will occur for the United States as of this time." UBS Securities' Mike Wallace added that, "This price cut is only on the 20GB version of the PS3 in Japan, which in our view is not significant given that the US is the key market for the PS3."
If, as Mike Wallace's comments allude to, the PS3's critical market is the US -- with Japan just being taken for granted -- then maybe they should have reversed that price cut and had it roll out in non-Japanese territories.
