As a San Francisco-based freelance writer and editor, I create technology, gaming, and how-to features for many publications. I was an editor for previous incarnations of Gamers.com, MacHome, and EZ Tech Guides, and I've contributed to Game Developer, Make, Craft, Executive Travel, and dozens of other magazines.- First game experience: I used to play Chinese checkers at my grandparents' house and the pinball machine at my mom's ad agency.
- Games that changed me: Football (Mattel hand-held), Pac-Man (Arcade, various hand-held), Joust (Arcade), Pool (Real life), Burger Time (Arcade, hand-held), Moon Patrol (Arcade, Apple II), Oregon Trail (Apple II), Lode Runner (Apple II, Mac), Rampage (Arcade, Apple II), ChipWits (Mac), Dark Castle (Mac), Tetris (NES, Mac, NDS), Glider (Mac), RC Pro-Am (NES), Tecmo Bowl (NES), Ninja Gaiden (NES), Road Rash (Genesis), Out of this World (SNES), Prince of Persia (Mac), Monkey Island series (Mac, PC), Marathon series (Mac), Future Cop: LAPD (Mac), Unreal (Mac), Iowa (TI-85), Myth series (Mac), Deus Ex (Mac), Pikmin (GameCube), Kururin Paradise (GBA), Half-Life 2 (PC), Katamari Damacy (PS2), Shadow of the Colossus (PS2), Big Brain Academy (NDS), LocoRoco (PSP)
- Potential sources of bias and conflicts of interest: I create occasional game trailers for online marketing, so I avoid covering those publishers and developers. In some cases, I might also avoid covering competitors.
- Why I'm blogging about games: The magazine editorial process holds my interest, but I wanted to explore the more-immediate world of a weblog. I also wanted a regular outlet for quick game stories that I may expand and redevelop into magazine articles. And there are stories that wouldn't work in a magazine that I can write about here.
