Sony can't do squat to Square Enix. A few years back, Sony bought 18.6% of Square. They were not the majority shareholder, thus Sony couldn't boss them around. When Square merged with Enix, I believe that stake in the company shrinked by half. (Around 9.3%) The only way Sony could make Square do anything is throwing around some money at them to get exclusives. I don't think Square wants that. They would rather be a full out third party. However, I don't see the main Final Fantasy games leaving Sony's platform. So don't expect a full on third party thing here. (Like EA or Ubisoft.)

" "It is highly unlikely that we will ever see a numbered Final Fantasy game on any system other than the PS3."

Um, other than FF11, I mean.

In other words, the "canon" single-player FF games - the system sellers of the series - of which FF11 is not really one."

Final Fantasy 1,2,3...

RedSpear, your numbers are incorrect unfortunately.

Firstly, it seems your figures are strictly limited to the US Market, and didn't take into consideration the Japanese ane European market as.

Secondly, people bought games after the generation ended. To put it into perspective, M64 sold 11.89 million copies worldwide as of today and FFVII sold 9.72 million worldwide.

Regardless, to call FFVII's presence on the Sony platform as not the beginning of Sony's reign would be an understatement.

101. are you retarded? you "keep hearing" about White Knight? you have all spent this week taking the time out to "keep hearing" about this game since it was fully uncloaked at TGS? prior to TGS Level 5's highest profile unreleased game was Rogue Galaxy. keep your spin to yourself.

PS the AI looks great? in the video footage the AI is running scripted combat routines. call it, um, a guided video using the in-game engine. the animations look pretty smooth, but the game overall looks like a glossed-out PS2 game with nice mapping laid over the scenery.

That argument would have more resonance if companies had actually done that. But given that Castlevania, Mega Man, Final Fantasy, etc did not REMAIN on Nintendo platforms, I think people will have to manage.

While I agree it is kind of arrogant for Squeenix to say their franchises will make or break the leader, I must admit that the ONLY REASON I GOT A PS1 or PS2 WAS TO PLAY FINAL FANTASY GAMES. Of course I bought some more games since I already had the consoles, but only a few.

I'd personally have a lot less qualms about saying that I play DDR before telling someone I play WoW religiously. Just because you're insecure about your fat, uncoordinated ass bouncing around on the dance pad to music that isn't the Final Fantasy VII OST doesn't mean that everyone is.

By the way, Para Para Paradise, if they port it to the Wii might just be the greatest game ever. If we can get some Hinoi Team stages, that is.

And what's embarassing about Karaoke Revolution? Karaoke is fun anyway, with friends. Oh, nevermind, I see your problem now.
