Is there a multiple option? Because my "favorite genre" changes every few months or so.

Sports and racing are probably my least favorite, but I still enjoy them once in a while. They're great party games.

This is a tough one to pick. I'd say action-adventure, but every now and then a good shmups (Ikaruga) is worth sometime. RPGS too.

Right now, I'm playing Ace Attorney (simulated), Megaman ZX (platformer), Dragon Quest: Rocket (RPG/puzzle), Guitar Hero (simulation) and Okami (RPG?).

I think part of the problem is that some genre's have been producing better games than others lately.

Uh, Blake, "Retro" is not a genre. Where's the "new" game option, then? Also, lumping platformers into "action-adventure" is a misnomer.

I've been playing Disgaea2 lately, which is S-RPG, other then that I like platformers (Jak, Mario) I like party games too, Mario Party, Ape Escape, and I like some racing mostly the N64 racing games, Crusing USA, and I like RPG's like Final Fantasy IX.

on PC, its RTS for sure, Starcraft and WC3(tower defense games mostly)

whatever okami is, thats what I like. I put it as action/adventure, although it has rpg elements, too.

all I know is it's the greatest game ever made.

I'm really a big fan of first-person adventure RPGs. But that wasn't an option.

Where do wrestling games fall on the spectrum? Are they their own genre, or do they qualify as fighting games?

Well, I can see Blake's opinion on rhythm games, seeing as it's not listed as an option. So if you're addicted to Guitar Hero, Donkey Konga, DDR, and the like, no option for you!

Even with that, though, I've been a dedicated RPG player since the first Final Fantasy came out in the US. I guess I just started to want a bit more story than most non-RPGs provide.

Oh, and Okami is most definitely an action/adventure game. I can see where you might call it an RPG, though - the enemy AI is so bad, you'd practically have to drop the controller to lose most fights.

I like games with no genre. So, jet set radio-sports..platform..action..grafitti..thing? Ecco - timetravelling underwater flight sim? Katamari- ..roll em up?

My groundings are probably in action/adventure, i love being able to explore and interact, and theres just something that makes me smile about finding medipacks or spare ammo. Things like RPGs,especially heavily story based ones like FF are far too 'on the rails' for me, you dont really get any 'moments' where the game glitches or you do something wrong and hilarity ensues, like finding a gap and walking through a wall or hiding in a corner so that the dragon cant reach you in tomb raider 2 ;D

But at the same time i've became addicted to rythm action over the past year and theres nothing more on the rails than pressing buttons in exact sequence.

I get a greater sense of accomplishment out of racing games than anything else. After 8 or 9 tries at a race for a platinum medal in PGR ya finally get that perfect run. That's what it's all about!

First-person shooters, but I also have a soft spot for light RPGs (like Oblivion, Diablo and the recent Castlevania games), Metroid games and the SSX series.

I enjoy a good FPS just as much as the next guy, but I still prefer a good third person adventurer and/or platformer.

I still think Resident Evil 4 is a perfect game and that's one of the reasons (and even it has some very minor RPG elements to it).

I'm playing Baten Kaitos Origins right now. It's easy to call it an RPG, but it has strategy and adventure elements in it as well.

Either way, this is tough because of genres crossing over so much nowadays, but my vote went to Action/Adventure.

While I always have a racing game on hand, and I'll buy a console for a good survival horror game, I had to vote RPG. When I'm in the middle of playing a game, none suck me in an tickle me in all the right places like RPGs. The strategy of turn-based battles, the billion side-quests you can do or not, and the involved stories are fantastic. I just finished Xenosaga 3 last week, and it breaks my heart that there won't be another 3 games in the series. Oh well, on to Enchanted Arms.

Moogoob, the Metroid Prime-games are not RPG's, they are FPSA (first person shooter adventure). ;D

I like action/adventure-games, and I pick that one because of the Zelda games is my definitive favourite in gaming history. (I don't like calling Zelda an RPG). And Mario! Best platformers ever is Super Mario 64, World and Bros. 3.

But since I got my Xbox 360 I've been playing lots of FPS games such as COD3, BF2: MC, Condemned, and so on. I am in love. =D

FPS is close, but I'll go with Strategy.

I'd say over 50% of my gaming time, life long, has been in either the Civilization series, X-Com series or Jagged Alliance series. Well, at least post-1992.

Throw Counterstrike in there and you're probably looking at 75%. But it's probably arguable that the NES would take a big chunk, hence the "post 1992."

I like Action-adventure, RPG, and First Person Shooters equally.

Well...I'm growing tired of "the grind" on RPGs. Leveling up has to be the most boring activity ever (unless it's related to some goal, like an achievement).

RPG is for me. I love how long and "epic" some can be, also the turn based action is something that appeals to me. I also like the "Tactics" type games (FF Tactics, Tactics Ogre, etc) and of course the adventure types too (Zelda, Psychonauts, etc) And finally the other types that take some of my time (Megaman Zero series, Summon Night, Mario Kart, RE4, Trauma Center, Phoenix Wright, and many others)

Types of games that do not interest me in the least are FPS, Sports, "serious" racing, RTS)

Just my two ducats...

Why lump platformers with action adventure? I like games like Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Soul Reaver etc but I can't stand traditional platformers like Spyro, Banjo Kazooie etc. I don't feel right selecting that choice in your poll even though action adventure is my favorite genre.

Wow. I see why there's only one game of my favorite genre on the Xbox 360. Nobody likes fighting games anymore?? Are all you guys to young to remember the days of Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat in the arcades?? Fighting games are the best games to play with friends because you can talk the most shit about them.

I won't say I HATE RPGS, but nothing ever wanted to make me buy one. What's so good about them?

Me:
5.Racing
4.Sports
3.Action
2.FPS
1.Fighting

Exactly what category would these games fall under:

Ninja Gaiden
Devil May Cry
God of War
Heavenly Sword*

Heavenly Sword doesn't have a jump button, so don't even tell me it's a "platformer" :)

RPGs, followed oh-so-closely by Action/Adventure games. Of course, I usually like games that blur the line between them- be it with stats (IGA's Castlevanias) or a real-time battle system (Tales, Star Ocean, Kingdom Hearts)
