I have the PC version of Oblivion. Has anyone else noticed the way distant land has really blurry textures and then all of a sudden it changes drastically when you get closer? That is really annoying. Does anyone know if the Xbox 360 version has the same issue?

Yup...They enhanced the graphics, added a whole new quest line, and a new guild or some shit.....so basically they made it better..ohhh yeah im sure there wont be any bugs either.....so i will be buying it for the PS3 !!!! Hell yeah.......The only thing that has pissed me off is Bioshock was supposed to be a PS3 launch title helping to make the PS3 launch lineup even better than it already was....dor sure though..the PS3 launch will be waaaaayyyy better than 360's !!!!!

I belive ATI's graphics solution (which is in the 360) is ahead of Nvidia's (which PS3 uses). As far as the PC platform is concerned, and with a single video card solution(no crossfire or SLI) NVidia hardware can't do AA and HDR at the same time, while ATI's can. This wasn't initially a problemm, as the game itself only allowed a exclusive choice, either one or the other. Then the "chuck patch" appeared, which allowed ATI users to force HDR and AA on newer cards. Nvidia users still don't have this capability. Even with just HDR enabled, (no AA) it is generally known that ATI cards handle the game better than Nvidia ones. A lot of people suspect that it is because the game was developed with the 360's ATI graphics hardware in mind in the first place. Also, unlike the PC release, the 360 version natively used both AA and HDR.... Perhaps these issues will be resolved for the PS3 release, but I'm doubing it. Core isn't going to help much at all, as this game is definatly GPU limited. Its pretty much common knowledge that the 360 GPU is a smidge better than the PS3's, and since the game was probably originally developed with the 360 in mind, I bet the graphics will be slightly worse on PS3.

Tom: I believe you can find some user mods that replace the distance land textures to something more hi res. In fact, Gamespot (I think), or online gaming site did a big comparison between the graphics mods and tweaks that the community has released and the vanilla game. The game has a the capacity to look tons better if you've got the hardware. I had forgotten about those mods when I made my last post. Even if devs do somehow tweak the graphics to look better than the 360, I doubt it will ever look as good as a properly tweaked out PC version that has the right user mods. Not to mention the interface mods which expand the inventory and map screens, provide color maps, etc. Basically, if you've got the hardware, the PC is definatly the way to play this game.

"52. I have the PC version ... the way distant land has really blurry textures and then ... changes drastically when you get closer ... is really annoying. Does anyone know if the Xbox 360 version has the same issue?"

Yeah it's much the same on the 360. You can fix this on the PC via some INI tweaking and/or higher-res LOD textures. I don't have a specific link offhand, but that info is readily available on the official forums. It's easy to install and doesn't carry much of a performance hit.

Anyway, this is good news I guess. I'm more interested to see what the PSP game is like since it's a different game rather than a port.

It may be that I've seen too much of Oblivion on the PC, but the PS3 screens don't actually look very impressive. Of course it's still early days, and having some screens is better than nothing.

This is going to induce lots more flame wars though. It was bad enough that with a heap of tweaking the PC version makes the 360 version look like crap, now there will be PS3 fanboys bragging about how they see five more polygons and two more frames per second...

I just hope this Knights of the Nine comes for 360/PC at some point. It's likely a hacked version could be made (someone made the Xbox GTA III's higher-res textures work with the PC version, for instance), but I'd far sooner have something official.

"The game wasn't choppy on 360 anyway.

Sony fans always attack framerate because you cant prove it. Perfect thing to lie about.

If you put a timer on it, microsoft games always have better framerates than Sony games. It isn't provable but it is true. - Bill"

Consider writing something logical next time. I brought up the framerate, so I assume you are lumping me in some 'Sony Fan Group' that attacks framerate on 360 games... Not the case. I'm attacking low framerate because it's annoying, and it's certainly not exclusive to the 360... It's just that no other 'next-gen' system is out yet, so what I'm trying to say is, "I hope framerates can increase because it sort of sucks that Oblivion and G.R.A.W., both supposed to be launch titles on the 360, have dragged brand-new next-gen hardware to annoyingly low framerates during chunky scenes." I don't want it happening on ANY platform I'm playing on, which will be all three new systems by the end of November, barring any trouble getting a PS3 or Wii.

Your last sentence is just nuts, by the way. Certified. I put a timer on it.

I pirated Oblivion when it came out. It was got repetative and was a bit overhyped. I would have much MUCH rather had Zone of the Enders 3 than a game that is already out for 2 systems.

PS2 really needed great exclusives to survive, because the multi launches would always look better on Xbox1... of course, better hardware.

Now, the new multi will always look better on PS3, it's good for Sony, if games look better, same price, same launch date, what would you like to play? You love 360 so bad to play a weaker versions of new games?

It's too bad the PS3 has less video memory than the 360. It will have lovely 1080p textures, but they'll be limited to about half the draw distance of the Xbox 360.

Hey, but maybe they'll use all that extra space to give the people more than six different voices!

Its funny though... now that a great game like oblivion is coming out for another system, all of a sudden its "old news" or year old trash.

Somehow that makes it any less of a great game? So does that make GH2 on 360 a garbage port from current gen crap?

Seriously guys, how is this bad news either way you look at it? Unless you're just completely devoid of anything meaningful in your life and have to cling to a game on ONE console for it to have any merit?

its good news for the PS3 bottomline, just like GH2 is good news for the 360. Simple as that.

Actually, Oblivion is one of the best non-FPS games the 360 has to offer (although how it will stack up against the impressive-looking White Knight Story is another matter).

I guess it's going to be tough for PS3 fanboys to change tack from "olol ff13 owns oldbliv!1!" to "hah we get 50 more polygins than u an 20 missons u dont!1!"...

Unless Beth trips up, Oblivion will be just as good a game as it is (or isn't?) on the 360. And with the addition of Knights of the Nine it will be even better.

The game doesn't look great on Xbox360 nor PC because lack of memory for textures on the 360. The game was designed for the 360 and that's why the distant textures look like crap. Luckily PC users can get high resolution versions of a lot of Oblivion textures to enhance the experience as well as countless other graphics-related stuffs. I was skeptical of installing the graphical enhancement mods since the game is already so demanding on hardware, but it didn't slow the game down too much. Damn shame Oblivion wasn't made exclusively for the PC first- most of the problems with the game (gameplay, ui, graphics) are a result of designing for the 360 and the 'mainstream' console gamer. Although I can't blame them. They gots to get paid.

While I'll they got a good game they also got a different game almost.

While the 360 owners wait a couple of minutes for load times its going to be more for PS3 owners (Blu-Ray loads slower) although PS3 owners won't experience the slow downs (two reasons: better processor, duplication glitch will be fixed)

1. Oblivion is unlikely to be any better than the 360 version. It is coming out in 2 months and that gave Bethesda, who is notoriously crappy when it comes to coding, a whole of a year to move Oblivion from the 360/PC to the PS3. Given the PS3 is a whole different beast than the PC-style 360, the bugs are going to be just as bad as they were across the board. For comparison, Bethesda STILL hasn't gotten Morrowind working right, what makes anyone think the PS3 version is going to, especially when it is such a foreign architecture? This is further amplified given that Bethesda wasn't putting all of its efforts into just porting and testing the PS3 version. They just had to add in more quests and have been producing add-ons this entire time. Meaning? The PS3 version, given Bethesda's poor history of programming stability, is shaping up to be worse than the 360 and PC versions. Don't expect patches either, Bethesda doesn't have the PS3 online component available (like all other third party guys), so they cannot add it into the game.

2. Oblivion has been out for forever and a day, so it isn't that big a deal.

3. White Knight, another PS3 game, is going to probably beat Oblivion up one side the virtual realm and down the other. It looks better, seems to play smoother, and looks to be far more interesting than the already interesting Oblivion.

Ultimately, this was a "surprise" announcement that offers absolutely no benefits or negatives for either side of the party.

This is a sweet game, everyone should get to play it. The only problem with the game on 360 is the load times. As far as frame-rate drops/glitches, it isn't as bad as a lot of people here make it out to be. I don't find it taking away from the game much.

I have done virtually every quest in the game except for the last Daedric quest and all of the main quest. The game has froze 2 or 3 times on me in that time. And, in one quest, I brought this stupid argonian girl to her mother for a quest and it never ended. Other than that, pretty great game.

The best reviewed 360 game to date is being released on PS3, that is a great coup for Sony and great for gamers in general.

Platform exclusives are increasingly becoming timed exclusives as developers/publishers need maximum return on their next gen investment. It wouldn't surprise me to see Dead Rising and Lost Planet appear on PS3 at some point either.. and then DMC4 on 360 too.

Team Ninja used to be staunchly XBox only and yet their best game Ninja Gaiden is now heading to PS3. Times are a changing.

Yeah, and it's pretty much common knowledge that every gamer is a hardware specialist when it comes to their platform of choice. They even know the CPU opcodes.

eric, you'll be playing Gears of War and i'll be playing MGS4. i believe it's a match.

And for the last time, about frame rates: i loved the original SNES Star Fox, and it ran at about 12 FPS. I also love Shadow of Colossus and it runs at about 20/25 FPS. And yes, by the end of XBox 360/PS3 life, the last hurrah games will be running at about 20 FPS too...

Framerates don't really matter if the game is fantastic. No matter how powerful the machine, technically ambitious titles always bring it down to a halt...
