Dutch website Xboxworld is reporting that our mystery XBLA game is in fact not Lode Runner, but id's classic FPS, DOOM. The website is reporting this as an official Microsoft announcement, though we have been unable to confirm it yet. The question is, what does this offer us that the backwards compatible DOOM 3 special edition doesn't? For starters, the game will run at three times its original resolution and support full 5.1 surround sound. If that's not enough, maybe four player online or offline co-op will convince you. We can only assume that deathmatch is in there as well.
This is wonderful news, if true. We love us some Lode Runner, but DOOM certainly has more of that "major franchise" ring to it. We'll know more as we get closer to today's X06 briefing.
