Little suprised at spilnter cell being a 360 exclusive. When I finnaly get my hands on a PS3 I still plan on buying all the games that are released on multiple consoles for that. Not because I think they will be better on either one, but MS lost my trust after my 360 turned to a paperwieght last week and is costing me $140 ti fix. I also don't plan on buying any additional content.

If your 360's broke and you got it in 2005, MS should repair it for free in this recently announced policy:

IslandLife-

but it's okay for Sony to control 70-80% of the console market and pay companies for exclusives? give me a break. MS is far from monopolizing this industry, when they outsell sony and nintendo by a 4:1 ratio and make you pay to download all the content that should come with your game in the first place (GTHD) then you can start worrying. If anything, the company you should be worried about monopolizing is sony. They are the ones trying to force blu-ray on all of us and use the gaming indsutry as a patsy to win out in the next-gen DVD race. What we are seeing is here is good old fashion competition, and MS just scored a few points, that's all. No one is dominating the industry by scooping up exclusives.

Islandlife, I see that Lefty did address you 10 posts prior to your laying into him about his unreadable posts, and BMWM3P did not. That's as close to an apology as I'll offer, and yes, your post #39 is clear in it's context now.

No, that's not what I said. I don't think it's right for anyone, whether it be MS, Sony or Nintendo to consistently buy up exclusives. But you must understand that a lot of exclusive content appears on consoles like the PS2 and DS simply because they have more market presence and third party publishers made that choice, not Sony or Nintendo.

Are they just saying that the content of GTA IV will not show on the Sony download service? or that will not be released for the PS3?, maybe it will be downloadable for the 360 and will come on the Disc for the PS3 (space reasons)... it will be funny if this remote remote remote posibility becomes true :-)

Yeah I think GTA is a killer title that needs to get on other systems, like my favourite, the Wii. It's a shame that all this new stuff of this type (General hardcore gamer type I mean) isn't really hitting the Wii yet. Come on Nintendo!

its the fact that the wii is no stringer than the xbox was. many devs simply canlt port their games over tot he wii with out totally redoing them. i am sure there will be killer apps for the wii as well but the diff in power is very sign this gen from the big 2 and nintendo. so we will see how it goes

ok. it seems like at least fifty percent of the Joystiq readers can't actually read. so here goes:

the next Splinter Cell after Double Agent is exclusive to the 360.

Bioshock is exclusive to the 360 and Games for Windows.

GTA IV will launch simultaneously on the 360 and the PS3, but the 360 version will get exclusive hours-long content addition downloads twice after launch.

is it that hard?

to IslandLife and the other monopoly whisperers: it's not fair to act like you know Microsoft will treat gamers unfairly in the future. most of the business practices you-all have described are more appropriately applied NOW, to companies like EA, Sony, and Square-Enix. you guys are just fearmongering. relax a little bit: today's news is GOOD for gaming. it puts better games into the hands of Microsoft's gamers. I'm sure Sony will do the same for their fans soon, even if they didn't choose to announce anything last week at TGS. who knows what will happen in the future? no one. but it's extremely unlikely that Microsoft is suddenly going to "want to suck the billions back out of our wallets" with charges when they're being very upfront about what they want: a full integration of digital media with Microsoft products and services at the center of our digital lives. THAT is why they're promoting Live Anywhere, and Media Center, and such. they're spreading money around because, well, that's how the industry works. Sony does it because they realise it's the only way to get a software advantage. don't sling sour grapes because Microsoft can afford to outspend Sony.

@49 - Did you know that MS has now extended their warrenty for a YEAR! That's for everyone (EU already had it).. Also, if you've paid for a repair on your 360 they are going to give you a refund. MS listened to their costumer base and responded and I like that.

Bioshock does not get nearly enough attention. That game looks amazing. Since reading a cover story on it in Game Informer (last spring?...earlier even?) The whole concept and storyline sounded very novel and interesting, especially for an FPS, and the environments and other graphics shown have a very eerie sense of atmosphere to them that I love. I have dug for information on the game but havent found a lot of people talking about it.

Anyways, good to hear news about it, no matter what it is, though I am sad to admit that " BioShock may not affect the mass audience". Booh to that.

I stand by my convictions.
GTA = overrated and unpolished.
Screw the "mass audience".
Bioshock FTW!

Bah - I'd rather not have the exclusive episodes. I don't think I've ever managed to finish one of the GTA games. I hope they didn't pay much money for this... If MS is going to spend money on exclusive content I would rather they did it on an entire game - although I may not be in the majority since the GTA games seem to draw tons of rabid fans.

I'm not sure how this helps MS outside of the hardcore fans anyway. Does anyone think there will be any sort of concerted marketing effort to drill this home to everyday videogame consumers (who might not have otherwise bought a 360)?

I'd love to see a new Sega system, but other than Half-life, Sega has pretty much destroyed their venerable franchises with crap releases.

Its this kind of BS like with Bioshock that makes me not want to buy the game on another console. I didn't buy RE4 at release for gamecube, waiting till I could get it for $15 new online. This won't make me buy a 360, but will keep me from buying bioshock. Plenty of other good games out there that I can get.

This is just another blow for the PS3. I keep seeing more and more games that I think will be for the PS3 coming out on other platforms. If the game creators are running away, I wonder if we should too?

I still don't see the attraction in these episodic content. I paid for a whole game, now I have to buy the XBox Live service, and then pay more to download these episodes?

I'll just stick to my PS2, thank you very much.

From November '06 to about a year from then will be the golden age of the 360. I'm not sure how much they'll have in the cannon after that, but until that time MS has by far the most impressive lineup, blowing away the other two consoles.

Wii = Kiddies
"Yay I can make mario by waving my hands!"

360 = Teenage Boys "
Zomg I can lik pwn j00 wit my FPS Skillz!!!"

PS3 = Men with jobs
"Sure come over, we can watch a blueray flick on my 1080p flatscreen with 7.1 surround sound."

It's just that simple, no need to argue.

agreed, the PS3 is for people who do not care about games. It's a less expensive blu-ray player

i am almost 30. have a killer job. I am amrried and have 2 kids. i will not be getting a ps3. i lvoe my 360. and every one on my friends list is over 18. and i am close with them all. our wives voice chat with each other, our kids play together online and so much more

thats the thing many don;t understand. 360 allows us to continue this growing relationship we have with other gamers we have known for years. with the inclusion of video chayt it has set it off.

on that note my boys wife was much hotter than i imagined lol

the point is gamers of all age choose either concole. but my main reason for not buying a ps3 is price and lack of online details and i donlt like being forced to foot the bill for a format war. see it how u want thats how i feel. if iu watched more movies maybe we could start to see eye to eye on bluray but for now my collection of dvds that i have had for years work fine upscaled when ever i do watch them. Don't be fooled. Many older gamers love the 360. its that simple

Doom any one?

Lefty, your spelling and grammar are atrocious. You seem to be more thrilled by the novelty of electricity than anything really special that the 360 does. PS3 has already been confirmed to have some sort of video chat and shit so that isn't really anything to boast about. Neither is the ability to play Doom. If I'm going to spend a couple of hundred dollars on a next gen console, then I dont really wanna waste my time on one of the first fps released. My computer can do that. You can bet that GTA4 will have some PS3 exclusive content - because if it doesnt, then the PS3 version is pretty much obsolete, leading to low sales, and in turn negative profits for Rockstar. Theyre not idiots, they know that it must have a competitive advantage in order to have any chance of sales. Bioshock doesnt really interest me either, seems like any other fps but underwater. Splinter Cell however is a VERY good looking game.
