X06: Lost Planet multiplayer impressions

Capcom sure knows how to do an action game. That's the first thing that popped into my head when adding Lost Planet: Extreme Condition to my list of simple Capcom action games like Mega Man, Final Fight and Dead Rising that just seem perfectly tuned for hitting and/or killing stuff.
The single-player demo at X06 was unfortunately the same one available on Xbox Live for months now, but a new multiplayer mode showed off how much better things can get with human opponents. It's basically a kill-or-be-killed deathmatch situation, but managing your health and heat energy as you fight adds a slight twist to the team-based standoffs. The play area seemed a little too large and barren for eight player deathmatch, but the open space allowed plenty of opportunity to double back and sneak up on unsuspecting opponents.
Once you do find your target, tight, responsive controls make aiming a breeze and using the shoulder buttons to do quick 90 degree turns really helps with manuevering in the heat of the fight. Climbing into a vital suit and blasting away at the suddenly small-seeming opposition is great fun too, but the suit's plodding pace makes this less than viable as a long term strategy.
The multiplayer mode seems like a solid addition to what is shaping up to be yet another impressive Capcom action game. Now how about giving us some more single player demo levels, huh?

You always have something dumb to say at the end of your posts, don't you? You want more single player levels than the two huge ones already on the marketplace? How about they just give us the whole game available for demo? How would that be?
reguy @ Sep 28th 2006 5:45PM
yeah man what up with this blogger???
gimme gimme gimme
and then when they do, nah too ez, gimme more, gimme gameplay, 2 more halo games? nah gimme more
azesino @ Sep 28th 2006 6:20PM
WTF is wrong with Joystiq posters this days seriously, When have u seen a game that gives u 2 levels on a demo, to give another demo including more levels, for god's sakes is a freaking demo, DEMO, demo, even with a single level you can get a DEMO of what the game is.
Justin @ Sep 28th 2006 5:50PM
Maybe he just really likes getting more stuff or something... geez its not like he is twisting anyones arm or something.
Cage @ Sep 28th 2006 6:00PM
Seriously though. With all the buzz going on about this game already do you really think they are going to release more levels? For free?!?
And Justin...they way the question is asked its like he is entitled to more levels or something. I think Sony has really screwed people up...
Justin @ Sep 28th 2006 6:14PM
Well I took it as him being sarcastic but really its not something I'd call him "dumb" for imo.
Happy @ Sep 28th 2006 6:27PM
Why do people who comment on joystiq bitch so much? It would be nice to see another single player level. The multiplayer looks like tons of fun but the bug level in the demo got boring really fast.
Ludwig Kietzmann @ Sep 28th 2006 6:27PM
What is your problem Kyle? You liked the game and now you want to play some more levels of it? How dare you express such a blatantly positive desire?! You make me sick. If I wanted to know whether the game was good or not, I certainly wouldn't read a preview of it.
Cage @ Sep 28th 2006 6:30PM
Happy...what happens when the next level for download becomes "boring really fast". The point is...it costs money to make this stuff. They cant (and wont) create new demo levels to give out for free. Enjoy what you have now and buy the game when it comes out.
Franky Digital @ Sep 28th 2006 6:35PM
@7: "It's not that, it's just more 8th-grade level writing at Joystiq. What were you expecting? Mature intellectual and editorial insight?"
Despite the ranting and raving of the many fanboys who frequent this place, Joystiq posts are actually pretty informative and well-written for the most part. It just seems like this writer in particular is of a sub-par calibur.
Not doing anything about it is definately not helping joystiq's image, though. I'll give you that.
Happy @ Sep 28th 2006 6:38PM
The point is that I'm not sure I want to buy a game where every level consists of bugs coming out of holes, me shooting the holes, repeat. I don't want another level just because I can't wait for the full game...
reguy @ Sep 28th 2006 6:39PM
Mr. Kietzman,
i think you miss our gripe. like cage said, it's this sense of entitlement. nothing is good enough, yes he likes it but he still complains because more free stuff is not available to him.
Happy @ Sep 28th 2006 6:45PM
Translation: Joystiq is full of Lost Planet fanboys who can't stand to hear someone say it would be nice to see another level before the game is released.
Nate @ Sep 28th 2006 6:48PM
Haha....I didn't know everyone was going to jump on the guy....damn, sorry about my post. It was meant to be a bit sarcastic after the thrashing this guy took in yesterday's X06 topic.
As far as Lost Planet is concerned, I'm looking forward to checking out the multiplayer. I thought the single player was good....but I could see it getting boring really fast.
I probably won't buy the game though because there is too much good stuff coming out soon.
Ndric @ Sep 28th 2006 6:48PM
*sigh* I could only wish that when people are experiencing menstruation, they stay away from the Internet.
Ludwig Kietzmann @ Sep 28th 2006 6:49PM
I don't see "Now how about giving us some more single player demo levels, huh?" as a complaint at all.
Here's another "complaint" then: Damn, why is Lost Planet not out yet? Am I expressing a desire to play the game, or am I saying Capcom is slow and should cater to my demands immediately?
Ross @ Sep 28th 2006 6:50PM
Mr. reguy --
You mispelled his name (Kietzmann, but it's okay 'cos the second 'n' is silent). Now, on to your gripe.
There are two, maybe three, ways to interpret Kyle's comment. You took hold of one, that Kyle is never satisfied [he's not, trust me ;) ]. The other is that Kyle enjoyed the demo so much that he just wants more of the game to love -- those two viewpoints are not mutually exclusive. The third way? I don't know, I'm sure there one more exists.
Here's what you need to ask yourself: how does a critic yearning for more levels affect you? Sit down, child, and tell me the heartache and woe that this has caused you today ... I'll wait.
While you hate me, allow myself to prop the other Lost Planet multiplayer impressions we did:

reguy @ Sep 28th 2006 7:04PM
um ross, who the hell are you? i believe i was talking to Ludwig, what is this a joystiq gang?
and why would i hate you?
and one last thing, if you call me child one more time believe me there will be a misunderstanding between us.
the type where a pen is stuck in your neck.
thank you.
canebi @ Sep 28th 2006 7:17PM
Joystiq is a sandbox, Ross why would you bother with that post, very unprofessional, let the kids play in the sandbox and step back my friend.
Cage @ Sep 28th 2006 7:30PM
Jostiq posters or gang (according to reguy),
I do not remember any other time in my time viewing your posts that you have asked to get more FREE levels. That in itself is unprofessional. Its like you are going out of your way to find something negative about ANYTHING you post about. If it was a PS3 demo (even without any "Live" to do it with) there would be the same reaction. A demo is there to water your mouth. Not satify your thirst...
batman @ Sep 28th 2006 8:17PM
@ 17
The second one without a doubt, Ludwig!
Just watch, I'll post this quote and someone will find a way to say that I'm being condecending: "We don't see things the way they are. We see them the way WE are."
batman @ Sep 28th 2006 8:22PM
Wow, I didn't see reguy's post before. Huh, must be a slow reader day.
James @ Sep 28th 2006 11:20PM
To the people who think this game could get old pretty fast - i might remind that the trailer shown at TGS (or was it X06?) shows that the demo released on Xbox Life is just the tip of the ice berg in terms of levels, gameplay, and overall diversity.
Just based on the in game stuff from that trailer, and from what the devloper said, you shouldnt assume that the game is going to be the demo over and over and over again...
Demo's are created partly to let you try out the gameplay - they doesnt necessarily mean that "this is all I get"
On a side note - another thing the developer said (i dont rememeber the site, it was IGN or GS, check it out yo-self) was that the final product will eclipse the demo grpahically as well.
So expect a nice lenght action game with varied terrain and enemy's with grpahics that are way more polished then the demo on XBL.
ps - sorry for spelling error's!
Uchiha Obito @ Sep 29th 2006 12:04AM
gimmi more Lot Planet LEVELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
codemule @ Sep 29th 2006 2:33AM
Actually, if you look closely, you'd notice it WASN'T the same demo as what was on Live Marketplace.
This demo has radically improved AI, improved textures and graphic detail, voice prompts for directions, more weapons, more ammo, you get a VS at the opening of the very first level (where as in the old demo you didn't get it until the first big warehouse).
And lastly, there's MELEE ATTACKS.
Just because it's the same two levels, does not make it the same demo at all.
iTard @ Sep 29th 2006 6:41AM
Joystiq, this Kyle Orland character is seriously not on the level needed to write for you.
I can understand one bad post from time to time but he's just bad. Just read the comments on his posts. Bad.
Sack him, I say. Or let him water down the quality of your site.
mliving @ Sep 29th 2006 7:03PM
Umm. So basically we should be impressed by this Tribes remake with snow?
mmkay!
jc @ Nov 10th 2006 11:58AM
