Joystiq shouldn't post things like this..
By that I mean posting "news" which is really just hype.

That said, it'll be interesting to see how Cryptic turns Marvel into a disappointing level-grind with an unbelievable level of map recycling. You too can be a hero in a game that shows you nearly everything at level 1 that you'll be seeing at level 50.

"Stalkers are useless on Doctor Doom's strike force!"

If you can't post hype as news, then what's the point of having expos? Those are mega-fueled hype engines.

LMAO@Becky! You've clearly played CoH/CoV! Can you imagine how bad "the grind" is now after Issue 6 (which totally effed-up the game IMO)?! I imagine it takes twice as long just to get one character to Level 50. UGH! SO disappinting the Cryptic Studios is working on this... :(

This isn't the first time that Joystiq has posted up new trailers from games. Did you complain then too?

Eh? CoH/CoV is one of the faster leveling MMO, even after the ED stuff.

Great 50,000 Wolverines running around talking smack... sounds like an interesting MMO. Seriously though, how will characters be more unique than CoH? Pink Wolvie, Green Wolvie, Blue Spidey or will you design your own character? And then it ceases to be a "Marvel" MMO. Cryptic should sue if you can make your own characters.

If they model it on COH, then to keep the Marvel feel to it, they'll use Marvel characters as the NPCs. So instead of reporting to some COH hero to get leveled up or find missions, you'll report to a Marvel hero. The NPC villains will be the same way- Instead of fighting Doctor Vahzilok, you'll be fighting Doctor Doom.

Then, if they do a COV version, you'll play minor villains who go up against established Marvel superheroes.

It works. You're still playing an unknown, but you're playing in Marvel's backyard instead of the made-up one from Cryptic.

Now, if only they'd let me port over my established characters from COH/COV to the Marvel Universe Online!!!

CoH is a good MMO. Say what you want about it, but NO other MMO offers you that level of customization. Yeah, you run into the occasional wolvie rip off, or spidey clone, but mostly, you see lots of original characters, that people obviously put thought into. The quality of these originals vary, of course, but it's a lot better than pretty much every other MMORPG, where no matter how creative or original you want to be, you're pretty much stuck with "Pick a Hairstyle between 1 and 5", and "Pick a Face between 1 and 10."

If Cryptic puts out the same quality of game out for this that they did with CoH and CoV, I'll be well pleased. Personally, I'd like to see a 'multi genre' approach to this sort of games. For example, if you choose a 'horror' theme for your character, you'll spend most of your time fighting demons and vampires, and only occasionally, when your on someone else's 'turf', will you fight a guy who robs banks by using mirrors while wearing green spandex. That sort of thing.

That said...Marvel. Look, I didn't want to get in the middle of this...but, well, I talked to Capcom. He says he really misses you...and he's sorry about not calling you after Marvel vs. Capcom 2. He really wants to talk to you about putting Dante and Leon Kennedy in a video game with Deadpool and The Punisher. Call him.
