Ubisoft prez sends some 360 "love"
It's a good thing that Sony's Ken Kutaragi reportedly doesn't care about the competition, because if he did he might be worried about the strong words of support for Microsoft's Xbox 360 coming from Ubisoft president Yves Guillemot during an interview with GameIndustry.biz.Guillemot said that Ubisoft granted an exclusive Splinter Cell title for Xbox 360 because, "Splinter Cell was created on the first Xbox, so we thought it was important to come back for one volume with Microsoft to create a very good quality title focused on using the full power of the system." He added later, "We love Xbox 360 because it's easy to develop on and that's why we want to put great quality products on it."
Ubisoft is clearly hedging its bets in the next-generation console race by offering plenty of launch support for the Wii and brining major games like Assassin's Creed to the PS3 as well as to the 360. Still, this laudatory interview from the company's president is sure to brighten the mood of any ardent 360 supporter.

Uh oh Sony Fanboys, this one was from the president himself; not some PR chick. How are we going to be countering this one today?
Sub @ Sep 30th 2006 5:43PM
Dauthi, with more lies and flawed logic, I'd assume.

I wonder tho if the splinter cell exclusive is a timed one or like forever. If i recall correctly, the first splintercell for xbox exclusive for only 2-3 months b4 the ps3 version came out.
Anyway, this is a pretty big exclusive. I can't wait for the next splinter cell (almost finished playing the third). Sony has been to arrogant recently with the above statement about them not caring about the competition and one before where they said exclusives aren't important for the PS3.
I'm not sure whose heading up the marketing devision at sony but they have to be the biggest idiots in the world. I've taken a few marketing courses before (in one right now) and there moves so far have been totally offbeat. They have a HUGE fanbase that really would gobble up anything with the playstation brand on it (most companies would only dream of this kind of support) and yet they manage to alienate a great majority of people (myself included).
Vlad @ Sep 30th 2006 5:44PM
he's being paid by M$, that's how!
just kidding, I actually really like this guy, and Ubisoft in general. And yeah, M$ seems to be doing better so far, and honestly I'm happy for them and wish them all the best...but as I said before in an earlier post, as long as PS3 has big Japanese developer exclusives, it'll be an even race. I just hope that neither side has TOO many exclusives...becuase the next gen is going to expensive enough as it is just buying one console.
and hooray for Wii support. Here's hoping that Red Steel isn't just a poorly-controlled arcade shooter with some weird sword parts!

I don't know 1 publisher who does not want to have their games sold to as many gamers as possible.
The game of the year is this one: As a publiser, play manufacturers against each other in order to get sweet deals.
With Micro$oft, you don't need to sell your game, since they sweeten so much.
Ghost @ Sep 30th 2006 6:24PM
F**k the 360, its old technology.
Wii; weird controller
PS3; Blu-ray and motion controller
Xbox 360; nothing, same mediocre controller (with nothing origional), so what if it has an add-on HD drive? why not build it into the case and use it as the standard format, dvd technology is old.
qw @ Sep 30th 2006 6:31PM
Its not a good time to be a sony fan :(
diskoboy @ Sep 30th 2006 6:33PM
#7 - My FX-60 with 2 gigs of DDR2 and SLI 7800gtx rig is almost a year old.
Better throw it out even though it plays games at full specs flawlessly and I can still slap another 2 gigs of RAM in it.
The tech is just to old. It's gotta go.
That's about the most laughable excuse for being a fanboy I've ever heard.. Especially since the PS2 was a year old when the Gamecube and the original Xbox were released.
Kite @ Sep 30th 2006 6:39PM
lol the ps3 motion controller and blueray are new technology I do not want
Usedtabe @ Sep 30th 2006 6:36PM
To # 7:
Hmm....I guess powering up the console from the controller was nothing original, huh? So un-originial that Sony put it on the PS3.
As far as the HDD goes, they put it inside the first time. Now they put it outside for upgradeable options. At least both xbox's had a hard drive that could be used in numerous ways, unlike the PS2(and don't mention that lame add-on that was only used for a few games). And now finally Sony adds a harddrive, after MS.
Mr_B @ Sep 30th 2006 6:44PM
But the Cell God Damn it!!
Its got emotions and everything, how can a chip with a cool name like "Cell" not be more the most powerful, Sony says its so it must be! They have never been WRONG EVER in the History of the WORLD!
Microsoft are IDIOTS they only employe STUPID people who know nothing, SONY have KEN on the case he's clever and been an ENGINEER since before they and we we were all born!
He's not a TIRED old TOOL at all!
PS3 FTW!

@ #7 Ghost,
i refuse to believe you're a real Sony fanboy.
either you get paid by sony to do this, or the joystiq bloggers post these kind of comments in hopes of recieving more comments, thereby generating more hits to make more money. prolly the former.
i mean, come on! this guy is saying the Wiimote is a "wierd" controller whereas the PS3 controller is a cool motion controller!
not even the most retarded Sony fanboy could say such a thing because everyone and their grandma knows the PS3 controller is a 6-axis piece of shit detecting controller whereas the wiimote can detect 360 degrees of 3D motion. infact, the nunchuck attachment of the Wiimote is essentially what the PS3 motion controller is.

I feel that the Ubisoft President is making a statement that the Xbox 360 is easier to write for. He wants to make a game that is easy to write for and give support to Microsoft who has helped make Ubisoft such a force in gaming. All of their games on the Xbox I have purchased. They make great games that I love to play. If they say they are going to be able to make a game easier and better? I am going to throw my money to that console.
It is not Microsoft's fault if Sony makes their console and leaves it up to the developer to "bring" out its true power. That is Sony's job plain and simple. Bravo for Microsoft for realizing that and doing their part in helping publishers. Who wants to work harder for the same results?
Sorry Sony, but let the games begin....minus that great exclusive that is =)
Patrick @ Sep 30th 2006 7:06PM
What would M$ fanboys do if the PS3 actually outsold the 360? That would be a sight I would love to see.
But then again, what would happen if the Wii outsold both the PS3 and the 360? But then again, that's not totally impossible.
the Sony fanboys sure are quiet tonight though. No jokes about this guys mother I presume?
Tristan @ Sep 30th 2006 7:14PM
Number 13 you are a real idiot. Microsoft built the 360 ground up for developers and gamers in mind. Sony just slapped a few expensive parts in the ps3 and said here you go. The cell wasn't built for video games it was built more for making pre-rendered movies. The graphics card in the thing is pretty much already out, with Nvidia having graphics card that match the power of it, while the one in the 360 may not have its card out in months or even years accordingly to Ati. Sony doesn't care about their customers as you can see. They are losing key games that most of their customers love. So Number 13 stop talking about stupid Sony execs that don't care about anything except money and profit.
gamerx @ Sep 30th 2006 7:21PM
Tristan i think #13 was being sarcastic ;D
Jonn @ Sep 30th 2006 8:19PM
#14: It's entirely plausible. One of the trademarks of fanboys, and Sony fanboys in particular, is double standards, as well as utter and complete denial.

PlayStation 3 will sell more and be #1 for the third time. Sony should be confident because unlike that crap from microsoft call Xbox 360 and that kiddy old gen from nintendo PlayStation is the only true next gen console with aa lot of exclusive microsft just care about peoples money from xbox live nintendo doesnt care about good things like multimedia. Sony is the whole package is gonna be the must have gaming console just watch i preorder 2 60 gig model.

The number of fanboy posts are starting to wain. As the PS3 launch approaches I'm thinking that the PS3 fanboys are starting to realize that they can't even afford the system they want. Their next course of action: Become PS3 Kiosk Fanboys!
Dom-Dom @ Sep 30th 2006 9:39PM
X-Box ftw. kthxbai.
But, seriously, 360 is going to have about a year head start on the PS3. It has better games (lined up and already released), it's cheaper, and it's way more user friendly. The PS3 has all this fancy-shmancy technology that really means nothing to gamers. If you want a system with amazing graphics, just spend some money on a good computer. I dont want a 600 dollar box that I'm just going to end up putting my coke can on.
Honestly, I think the PS3 is just too far advanced. Im a gamer, and I want something that will reflect that. My system needs to reflect my messy bedroom floor and old, pieced together computer. X-Box has the Casual Gamer demographic, and thereby it wins.
If you want a PS3, just get a new computer. At least you could use it for porn, too....
Jason @ Sep 30th 2006 10:37PM
It doesn't surprise me. Ubi's games don't sell well on PS consoles.
For those people who are still complaining about price, for your sake I hope the PS3 doesn't succeed in any capacity because if it does then you can count MS going the more expensive route next generation (in 3 years for MS).
foobob @ Oct 1st 2006 2:32AM
what really amazes me about Ubisoft is that it was a shitty developer during the 16-bit days, with subpar titles, and whose only game to fame during the 32-bit days was the lame Rayman series... Infogrames was far better, until somehow they bought them...
how it came to be some kind of super-star developer akin to the likes of Capcom, Konami or Namco is something i leave to XBox fans to reason about...
and yes, the prez felt M$ greeny love...
I'll worry about PS3's fate when Konami comes out with MGS4 for the XBox 360 and superior enemy AI...
munchie @ Oct 1st 2006 2:33AM
The big deal about Splinter Cell 5 being Xbox 360 exclusive is this...
When the first Splinter Cell came out...it was touted as being a game that looked and played better than Metal Gear solid. The obvious comparisons were made because of all the sneaking around in MGS. For Xbox owners of the Day...Sam Fisher was their very own Solid Snake of sorts.
So this time around I believe Splinter Cell 5 will server the same purpose for the 360. The game will probably be out Winter 2007 going head to head with MGS for PS3.
Truly the two are very different games and I personally enjoy Splinter Cell much more. But once again...Splinter Cell 5 will more than satisfy folks need for this type of game and rounds out the 360's library to the detrement of the PS3.
This Christmas there are just soo many Titles to choose from for the 360. I didn't feel this way about the Xbox until almost 3 years after launch. So I think clearly the 360 is off to an amazing start with Great titles, some very interesting new properties, and an amazing Xbox Live network.
foobob @ Oct 1st 2006 2:47AM

hey, man, get a grip! the PS3 controller owes Nintendo 3 times: from the original layout and design of the original SNES, to the analog stick and rumble feature from N64 and now using sensor technology from the Wii.
Sony feels penis envy for Nintendo products ever since the engenious GB...
Serious Kriss @ Oct 1st 2006 3:32AM
@30 : Ubisoft was only a publisher during the 16-bit era. Rayman for the PS1 was the 1st game they actually developped themselves.
And I'm pretty sure they never bought Infogrames/Atari.
GhostDoggy @ Oct 1st 2006 7:49AM
Shouldn't that be some '360 lust'? I mean, Ubi now treats their loyal customers with contempt. Instead of free download content that they raised their loyal consumers on, now they charge them money. And when three quarters of the voters complain, Ubi exhibits an uncaring attitude toward them. Sorry, Ubi is out of my life and for good. I'll go find a publisher that doesn't treat their loyal consumers like a beaten ho on the street corner. Ubisoft, the new rule to measure one's pimpness.

"Microsoft are IDIOTS they only employe STUPID people who know nothing, SONY have KEN on the case he's clever and been an ENGINEER since before they and we we were all born!"
@ 13 MR_B, you are a complete idiot next time think real hard beforeyou say anything, What freaking logic are you using? None. The only thing you are showing is that that you are a sony fanboy who dosnt know shit. If the above statement was true than one could assume several things:
1. MS would have gone bankrupt a long time ago.
2. MS would be a total failure.
3. Sony would be woth billions more than MS.
4. You would be working for them.
But since none of theese things are not true it just shows that you are saying is bullshit. Now if im wrong please educate me instead of giving me this load of crap.
Ryan @ Oct 1st 2006 4:42PM
You know i might not like sony but all i can say is why do fanboys want a particular company to dominate? In my oppinion if one company wins the video game war and knocks the other 2 out less quality games will be in the market. This is why Ubisoft is supporting Nintendo and Xbox heavily (The underdogs) while i bet we can expect similar treatment for the PS3.
By the way years of being a Nintendo Fanboy has taught me is always have faith in your system even if it is failing. Its my presumption but Like Nintendo had a few secrets about the Wii i am willing to put money down on that the PS3 Cell will come to be more important than we all expect.
greg @ Oct 1st 2006 11:53PM
If Sony is so god damn great tell me RIGHT NOW how many of you had disk read errors...WAIT IM NOT DONE....And when you did sony sent you a BOx to ship it back in then ship you a new one then only charge 54(optional) dollars for that same coverage for an extended 2 years!!! Yea i thought so.. Im not mad at you guys though Ive mad over a $1000 these last few years fixing those errors for people and FYI Some of the ps2 fans cop out which leads to overheating. The dust pick up inside those boxes cause many problems over time
dshots @ Oct 2nd 2006 12:05PM
All those argument you guys doing is worthless, becuase at the end of the day Sony and M$ still making money i myself love the 360, PS3, Wii but the way thing are looking right now 360, and Wii is the only affordable consol for the average gamer, If i had $600 to spend i would rather upgrade my pc Video card than spend it on PS3. I will get a PS3 maybe in a year when sony drop the price till i'll watch in the side line
