World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade footage leak
Whether a new video showing environments and mobs from World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade is authentic or an elaborate mod is up for debate. If it is real than somebody has been naughty and deserves a spanking. A spanking and a hug from all the World of Warcraft players clamoring for more information and footage regarding the upcoming Burning Crusade expansion.A user created video on GameTrailers apparently reveals environments and mobs from the Burning Crusade's Outlands. The video explains that the footage was captured by placing the Burning Crusade code onto a private server . There are no NPCs or other bells and whistles in the video because it's not on a Blizzard server.
So if you feel like being naughty, go take a look. We promise not to tell.
[Thanks Brent]

FP!
One of those last scenes in it looked an awful lot like Halo 1... maybe it was unintentional?
Scytheford @ Sep 30th 2006 9:08AM
I'm pretty sure that'd be a Drenai thing, maybe their crashed ship? Or their outpost in the Outlands. Or something. Possibly...
At any rate, burning crusade looks to be more than your average "bit-more-landmass-and-a-few-extra-mobs" MMO expansion. I'll be picking it up.

Okay, I'm having a slight argument with a friend over what a Draenai is and what a Blood elf is.
He claims that the Draenei are like night elves with tails, and I tell him that BLOOD ELVES are like night elves with tails.
Can someone clear this up?
Nite_Moogle @ Sep 30th 2006 10:51AM
The Burning Crusade installer has been available for some time now if you knew where to look, and people have been using server emulators to explore the zones for over a month now. This isn't really new, if you look on Google or youtube there's a new video up almost every day.
Draeni are the ones pictured in this article, and have tails.

But you still run around for hours, grinding levels, and putting up with 12-year-olds and idiots spamming the communication channels with non-RPG conversations and unpleasant behavior, right?
WoW is nice-looking, but the tedious gameplay and obnoxious, obsessed players kind of ruined it for me.

Draenei are the same race as the bad guys Archimonde and Kil'jaeden, there Eredar from the planet Argus. There the same race, but uncorrupted. The group that are known as Draenei are ones that escaped the Burning Legion and fled there planet Argus, to settle on Dreanor. They ultimately led the legion to Draenor and was how the orcs were found and turned into servants of the legion.
The Blood Elfs(Formerly High Elfs) are an off shoot of the Night elf race, ones that never gave up there addiction to Arcane magic after the first war with the Burning Legion. After Quel'Thalas was destroyed by Arthas some of the surviving few renamed themselves Blood Elfs in remembrance of there fallen city.

I believe #7 nailed it right on the head.

Thats why you leave the channels, and make good use of the Ignore list:)
And honestly it is much better in wow then it is in most other MMO's I have played. As for Tedious gameplay, WoW is more varied then most.
But as they say, to each his own.
The ZeroCorpse @ Sep 30th 2006 7:49PM
How, exactly, was grinding level 20 any different than grinding level 5?
It all blends together and looks identical in the end. The MMORPG field is stale. They need to do something MORE with it. Focusing on the RPG elements (ROLE playing, not ROLL playing) might help. WoW is just not immersive enough to make up for the fact that I'm killing baddies over and over and over again, with no end in sight.

I haven't seen this specific footage, but my girlfriend was running around Burning Crusade areas. Apparently you can set up a "sandbox" style mode as the code for those areas is available already. It's not a private server kinda thing. There's a how-to somewhere on-line. I don't play WoW myself, so I just got all this through the random squeals of "oo"s and "ah"s.

For all intents and purposes, practical roleplaying in an MMO is unlikely to be achievable in the near future. It's probably best to either go traditional (the key requirement being a DM with absolute control) or form an area where all players agree to roleplay. (Guilds being the simplest, though outside interactions may suffer. If several guilds can agree to RP, the situation vastly improves, geting GM control (or equilivant) to a world whether by world creation or strict RP rule enforcement would be preferable. Players also should NOT powerlevel or optimise characters, but instead build characters based on RP requirements)
Eitherway, a traditional MMO should not be played directly for RP reasons, but instead is considered an "option" for the RP world. Basically, the MMO deals with the dice-rolls, you deal with the RP.

Many people can do this, it isn't hard at all.
You need to download the Burning Crusade alpha directly from the WoW site, then download "TBC-Sandbox" and run it, then you're done, you can explore the new areas.
Honestly though, there aren't any mobs, npc, spells, even clothes for that matter, so it gets boring pretty quick.
