This must truly be next generation...............of people. I am saying this because my parents barely know how to set the timer on the oven or access the TV guide so if I got a Wii how would I explain to them that they can use this odd remote thing with some arrow buttons and a big circular one saying 'A' on it can actually write a message so that I will remember to eat the ice cream in the fridge. And even if I did tell them how to they would either forget within a couple of days, learn about the Wii and get addicted to Video gaming (not good) or mosty likely just use the old post-it notes and paper. Plus, I am not always going to go straight on to videogames as soon as I come home.

Hey, to people who think this won't work, why don't you read "Iwata Asks" on wii.nintendo.com. Read a little bit about how this feature is intended to work, and why they developed it.

If not a single person in America uses this (which is a ridiculous notion), I think it will be much more useful in Japan. Get your head out of your ass. Nintendo isn't marketing this console to you and you alone, Vlad.

And, as others have probably said, Nintendo will still focus more time on developing games for this thing than any other company will. So, if you don't like the feature, don't use it. Play games on it. Its existence for those who might use it is not a personal affront to your mother, is it?

This is by far the worst post I have ever read on Joystiq. Intentionally flame-baiting from an obviously anti-Nintendo poster. It's fine if you want to post your *opinion* that this is a useless feature. Great. Do it in a better way.

I thought the Wii could leave messages to Cell phones, perhaps cell phones can leave mesages to the Wii

nothing dude (Msg #66):
[[[66. so if the nintendo wii becomes a big hit,

is Vlad out of the job?]]]

He'll wish he'd be.
And it's not IF but rather *WHEN*.

Until then those Nintendo naysayers will continue to harp in the calm before the storm.
It all ends when the maelstrom starts to blow.

Think of it as free entertainment I say. No need to get huffy about it. And sources say the entertainment value of these types of posts will appereciate in the coming years.

AJ from Msg #89:
[[[89. Good ole' Joystiq you guys hit the nail right on the head NOT.My daughter and I used to leave each other notes all the time in Animal Crossing. It was just a fun little way to COMMUNICATE. Honey, I left you a surprise in A4
or Clean your room. Nintendo is offering us a different
way to interact with people in our household.
It ain't going to happen? It already has.]]]

I don't think most people realize it but Animal Crossing was a testing ground of this whole Wii concept & new direction Nintendo is going business wise.
Doesn't it strike you funny that most people first heard of these Animal Crossing characters on a game like Super Smash Bros. Melee? The trophies? A game that most people predictably would buy?
Nintendo has been in transition for 10 years.

Read this brilliant post by Sean Malstrom for more insight:
[Theory of Cycles]
http://thewiikly.zogdog.com/article.php?article=3&ed=1

In there he explains the changes in the game industry "generations" not necessarily of age but more of game direction.
Nintendo came to power in the 2nd cycle: The Arcade Cycle. It was an arcade-styled company & their games reflected this. And in the past 10 years it has begun to transform itself to the emerging cycle: The Social/Interactive Cycle.

This is why so many people call many of Nintendo's DS games "non-games". It is because they are subscribers to an older cycle of gamethought. They are INDEED games just like the rest but of a different animal. Games before Nintendo were different too & people thought that their games were fluff & light as well until that became the new standard. Pac-Man & such were actually looked down on from some gameplayers of the original cycle as "non-games" believe it or not.

Animal Crossing isn't an RPG; it isn't a arcade, high score, twitch-play, button mashathon; it isn't an epic cinematic masterpiece worthy of theaters; it isn't a chess-styled D&D deep thinking kind of game.

It is ALL about the interaction between people. THAT is REALLY the selling point of the game. It actually gets BETTER the more people you have in your town & the more towns you interact with each with their own sets of people (talking about the actual players not just the in-game animal villagers).
It is very laidback & non-demanding task wise. You can do nothing or everything but either way it doesn't matter. Yet the game is addicting. I have a friend who is GTA fan & bought BOTH Playstations 1 & 2 yet he found himself hooked by this non-assuming ragdoll-&-critters-in-a-li'l-village videogame. He'd actually bought it & the $99 Gamecube it was packed with for his WIFE because SHE wanted it. Now they BOTH are playing.

I think the ones who have some understanding of what Wii's going to do are the ones who have played & owned Animal Crossing like I have.
I didn't & obviously couldn't see it at the time but now looking back it is OBVIOUS that Animal Crossing like the DS was a testing ground for Nintendo's new direction which includes the Wii.
Check out how the Mii Channel reminds you of things in Animal Crossing. No coincidence.

The gaming world is about to be turned on its head when the Wii comes out. The way gaming is thought of & talked about is about to change.
Everybody thinks Microsoft & Sony are taking gaming into the next level but no they are not.
They're fighting over nonessential issues which they will soon discover as Wii takes off.

Nintendo is about wholly redefine the gaming experience audience wise, business wise, perception wise, & creatively with this Wii project.
It is the Future of Gaming & will supercede the NES. I used to say the second coming of the NES but Wii will surpass this.

Right now few are ready but in the end all will realize these nonassuming moves for what they were.
Animal Crossing was just the tip of the iceberg.
AJ just showed you from personal example.

Biased, but freakin' hilarious! :D

So true, anyways. Who would write a note on a videogame system, let alone someone who probably doesn't know how to turn the thing on, insetad of using a sticky note?

No point flaming joystiq bloggers, its their articles they put up, so they should be free to have their personal opinions of them too, just like the rest of the readers here who...disses every product and service mentioned on this site. Its necessary to critise, in aim for improvements of future products in the games industry. But we have yet to see the Wii or PS3 in action so 'No point flaming joystiq bloggers' over nothing. soon every1 will be able to test how practicle the memo thing maybe.

"My girlfriend would probably think to check my Wii first for notes then anywhere else."

I'm not going to play the Wii-joke angle here, but you people have to understand that it's getting fucking hard not to! This quote in particular leaves the door open to so many possibilities. I'll just take a "show, don't tell" approach, I guess.

BTW, unless your girl is a nonstop gamer too, that's just fucking pathetic.

I think we're all suffering from "anticipation fatigue" as Tycho put it. Whether it's for the Wii or PS3 or a game doesn't matter. We're just ready for these damn things to be out already! And we can lay to rest this endless stream of errant speculation!

"Jesus Christ, it's a goddamned example. What's your problem?"

The first comment got it spot, it's a feature that some people may use or not. Why the big fuss?

"In short: ain't gonna happen."

Leave the opinions to us please, it's bad enough this site and the editors try to be a game site with 'well written' articles and want to be taken seriously. It doesn't help with you and other editors posting stupid articles and putting forward their opinions (in a subtle and not so subtle way).

"The pudgy little bastard..."

That was insulting and not even funny and this stuff is found in the comments section not written by the editor. This is another example of how you and some of your fellow editors should consider switching a blog or perhaps a career which doesn't involve writing.
