Reggie himself said it will only launch in white, globally. I've not heard if/when they'll start selling other colors.

I've always been with Nintendo, even when it was in its
"slump" (or what some people consider it to be.)

But anywayz, I usually get the first color it comes out
in...so I'm getting white. If only all those others colors were at launch...I'd ask for a nice, sleek lime green. ^.^

guys,a thought has occured...

what if nintendo is tricking us with the whole "only launched in white" thing?

i mean this could just be a test of how the fans will react to a little dissapointment (if any)

they could just be testing if their fans will stick with the joy of nintendo, even if they can't have a desired color.

think about it,nintendo has been showing different colors of the wii for some time now, right? Why wouldn't they just make colors available so more products sell?

they're gonna need the extra money, seeing as how they have spent more money advertising, than making the product.

PLESE COMMENT!!

@ pj: They're only releasing in white, because that way they don't risk launch shortages as easily. If all they had left was a white, and I wanted black, I'd have to wait. But if only white is available, they're only offering one choice: Do you want a Wii, or don't you? And in the end, they'll sell out all those to early adopters; the Wii will be white for a few more shipments, and then we'll get black when they can afford to offer a choice.

After all, Cubes sold out at launch, and they were purple.

They have a headset for the DS, so I bet they will probably make a headset for the Wii in the near future. since online games are in demand, and require effective communication to be successful.

@navim88 -
thanks for that link, I got me a SD card and an ethernet cord shipped to my house for $1.72.

it's legit guys - $10 off every buy.com $30 or more, and a $19 dollar rebate = essentially free.

Im gonna tell you the reason Nintendo doesnt release more colors at launch. They dont want you waiting to buy your Wii untill you get the color you desire. The want you to buy the first Wii you see.

Let me give you an example. Suppose Nintendo put out white, red, and blue Wii's. And suppose you really want a blue one. But say many people want the blue one, then the blue one will sell out quickly. When you get to the store and see red and white, you will hold back from buying, since you know blue ones will be available in a relative short time.

By only providing white wii's at launch, that problem is eliminated. you see a white wii you buy... no waiting.
Thus more sales at Launch, which equals better third party support.

I think that #12 is essentially right but think about this. If you're a hardcore fan, you'll get one at launch. Yeah, you want black but damned if little Jimmy down the street gets a Wii before you do. Six months later black comes out. Trade-in for a Wii is sitting at a solid $175 and you think it's worth the extra $75 to get a black one, plus you can trade in your old copy of Wii Sports. It's the DS all-over again. If I didn't have a will of iron I would have traded in my white DS Lite for a black one and I'm sure most of the die hard Nintendudes are the same.

Meh, there'll be cool skins in no time, anyway (I know I'm going on about it whenever I get a chance, but I am making a papercraft stick figure to put on top of mine)

What I'm really interested in is when there will be coloured wiimotes. I mean, that's what you'll have your Mii's on, and hopefully be taking to friends' systems. So that I'd really like to have be in my own colour.

Actually I've decided against purchasing a Wii but I do visit the site to check on Zelda updates, if any. This article only confirmed my reasons for not buying a Wii. Nintendo freely admits there is notheing "NextGen" about this console other than "attitude". Everyone can argue about graphics making no difference to game play but tell me you didn't appreciate the graphics improvements over the course of all the different versions of Zelda or Mario and I'll say you are not being truthful. When Mario released with the N64 it was the graphics that grabbed everyones attention first and the units sold as fast as stores could get them. Visual effects DO make a difference in game play and the lack of high def support on a new game system is a serious mistake. I am not impressed with the new controller. I have no desire to flail my arms around for hours on end playing Zelda. I'm also not happy they didn't release Zelda when it was done for the GameCube. I will buy it for the GC and it will be my final purchase from Nintendo. I see no reason to buy a Wii. I've enjoyed the games such as RE4 and even laughed at Banjo Kazooie but I will look foward to the next release of Banjo Kazooie and RE5 coming out on the 360. The GC is perfectly capable of playing the games being released for the Wii and I wouldn't be surprised to see the majority of them released in GC versions. This will more than likely be my last adventure with Zelda.

To #19:

Freedom of choice is just that, so if you're not going to buy one, fine. We'll all enjoy the fresh, exciting, and inuitive gameplay that this true next generation console provides. Yes, Mario 64 was mind-blowing. That's because it was a jump from 2D to 3D. That is a true next generation. But every few years coming out with slightly enhanced graphics and calling that your best effort? No sir. What Nintendo has done is seen that the gaming market was stagnant in a way, because everyone was just putting better graphics cards in their systems and calling it done. But this time, Nintendo decided to truly enhance everyone's experience with games, to truly bring back what it was that all got us into games in the first place. If you want to be a drone, that's just fine with me. I've seen the light, and it is the Wii.

As far as your "flailing your arms around" comment goes, that's completely asinine. As has been stated again and again, you don't HAVE to make those long, elaborate motions. A simple flick of the wrist will do. It just seems more accurate to those playing to follow through on their swings (be it in golf, baseball, tennis, or even Zelda).

And no, the reason the Gamecube Legend of Zelda is coming out around the same time as the Wii version is because it WASN'T done. If you'd read EGM or would head over to http://www.hyrule.net every so often, you'd know that. It took so long because they wanted to do it right. They wanted a game that would rival, or even beat Ocarina of Time. As Iwata said "Zelda is not a game that can be measured on a scale of 100, it has to be 110."

So there you have it.

@BolderX,

I'm sorry to hear you are so disenfranchised with the Wii. Most Wii supporters do NOT believe graphics don't matter, they just believe that gameplay should be the focus and graphics should be a bonus. I'm embarrassed by the path of some so-called "next-gen" games: less gameplay modes and options in Madden, fewer cars and tracks in Gran Turismo, shorter games for nearly all FPS and Adventures, all at the expensive of graphics. I'd rather play LoZ:TP, with it's GC graphics and 70+ hours of game time, than some FPS rehash with pretty textures. Graphics are important, and they pull people in, but I'm not spending $50 to see pretty visuals.

The "flailing arms" argument is played out. If you don't realize by now that the Wii can be played within a few square inches, with your arms rested on your lap, then you never will. I'm sure the "flailing arms" argument will be the de facto standard complaint from Sony and Microsoft lovers for years.

The GameCube is NOT capable of playing games that are running on hardware twice as powerful. The detail we've seen from Super Mario Galaxy (an unfinished game), Red Steel, and Raving Rabbids alone prove this. And these are first generation games!

Nintendo's marketing campaign is "the Wii is not next-gen, it's new-gen". To say the Wii belongs in the current generation of gaming is unbelievable when it packs in more hardware than the XBOX, this generation's leader. Nintendo's marketing says "new-gen" to emphasize the new control and new game ideas, compared to relatively "old" ideas of competitors.

You may not want a Wii and that's fine. But a great many of us are impressed with what Nintendo is offering. And I have little doubt that the Wii will be number 1 in Japan and possibly number 1 in the world, which only means more games for us Wii owners.

(Note: This is a Wii post; the main point needs background first)

To me, the best console (Nintendo or otherwise) was the SNES.

The SNES showcased the state-of-the-art in 2D graphics, sported games that had amazing gameplay, and had 3rd party support never seen again on any console.

I never purchased an N64 until very late in it's life. The N64
was a clear step backwards from the SNES. Beautiful 2D graphics
were replaced by immature, poor-looking 3D graphics; gameplay
hadn't evolved; and 3rd party support was gone (a big one being
Square). On the graphics front, it wasn't only the N64 though.
That entire generation showcased crappy 3D graphics instead of
the beautiful 2D graphics that people were already capable of
producing. Final Fantasy 7 on the PSX comes to mind. That game
looks horrible -- who the heck decided a game with pixelated,
super-deformed, 3D characters looked better than beautiful artwork
of Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger? Games of that generation
all suffered due to a focus on 3D graphics above all else. Say
all you want about Mario 64 or Zelda: OoT/MM, but Mario World and
Zelda: Link to the Past trump 'em all.

It wasn't until current generation consoles that advanced graphics
became worth the effort. The state-of-the-art was finally better
than the 2D state-of-the-art. Mario Sunshine and FF: Crystal Chronicles were beautiful, the PS2 had FFX, etc.

High-definition 3D graphics aren't the state-of-the-art. It's an
immature area, and Nintendo realizes that. The other consoles are
going high-def. before it's perfected, and just like the standard-def 3D graphics from the N64-era, it's simply not worth it. High-definition is for the next-next-generation. That's when it'll be worth it: in 2011.

On the other hand, games like DDR, Guitar Hero, Donkey Konga/Jungle Beat, and hardware like the DS has showcased that advanced game interactivity is worth it. Advanced interactivity is a very mature area now, and embracing that and evolving it (like the Wiimote does) is the smart path to a real next-generation. Amazing standard-def 3D graphics + the state of the art in interactivity trumps mediocre high-def 3D graphics + the same-ol'.

I haven't been this excited about a new console since I was 9 and received a SNES for Christmas. Nintendo must be doing something right.

No response, BolderX? Sucks I wasted the five minutes typing that out.

Yeah, Ian, that was pretty close... great minds, right? And good post, jdb, I agree that "new" ways of playing games are getting really exciting - Guitar Hero is probably my most played as of late.

Dear BolderX,

I'm sorry to see you do not make the corrolation between the original Super Mario, Mario64 and the impact on gamers. It wasn't the graphics that made Mario 64 important, it was the fact that you could CONTROL Mario in a 3D environment, versus a 2 Dimensional environment on the original. Notice I highlighted the word CONTROL.

I did that so that you would understand this: Nintendo has evolved the act of playing a game (also called controls) FROM A 2 DIMENSIONAL ACTION (PRESSING BUTTONS ON A BRICK) TO A 3 DIMENSIONAL ACTION (TRANSLATING GRACEFUL MOVEMENT INTO ON-SCREEN ACTION).

You make fun of it now, but once you get your hands on one, you will see the revolution that ninteno has created. Years down the road, the other systems will follow what nintendo has done. (Sony has already started to play copycat with their last minute change of their controller - so eager were they to copy nintendo that they sacrificed their own rumble feature. Should've spent a little more time at the drawing board, Sony - I think you've made one too many mistakes!)

This is just more anti-nintendo propaganda that you probably read on some Microsoft or Sony site and decided to regurge here. It's getting old man - and we're all too excited about how much fun we are going to have with the Wii to give a duce what you have to say.
