Half-Life 2 gets all tactical and stuff
Primotech has posted a rundown of the new Half-Life 2 mod, SMOD: Tactical. This mod-of-a-mod transforms geeky Gordon Freeman into a Counter-Terrorist super-soldier, who can slow time and put down baddies with a few well-placed shots.Tactical's most striking elements are the remodeled weapon set and hip visual effects. You'll blast through City 17 with new toys like the 1911 .45 caliber pistol, M4 carbine with EOTech Holographic Weapon Sights, and Artic Warfare Magnum sniper rifle. The experience is heightened by depth-of-field and screen-blur effects and the aforementioned "bullet time" feature.
Download the alpha version (191.55 MB .rar file) here.

I really wish people would add other weapons to games, or at least customized ones. There are so many cool weapons in the world; but yet in any modern shooter I can name at least 95% of the weapons.

I agree HaloBreaker, which is why I steer clear from any modern shooter. I can't stand the weapons or the sense of "realism" applied to a video-game. If I wanted to do this for real, I'd join the military. I like my M6D's and needler's and rail-guns lol

SMOD is pretty cool (killing Combine with a shovel FTW), and this sounds pretty cool. Can't wait to go home and check it out.

This is the Author of "Tactical"
Thanks for the new post :)
I'm a big fan of Joystiq!
If you want to see updates check here :

If you have questions about the mod check out the facepunch thread here :

And If you could, can you please credit "the Author" of SMOD? (that's what he goes by, "the author") If it wasn't for him and his awesome mod, there would be no SMOD.
Thanks again!

Go look up the Metal Gear Solid mod for HL2. It has everything this does, and about 10x more. You can play as Liquid, Solid, Big Boss, or a modified Gordan Freeman, with a totally revamped difficulty level, and unique playstyles and weaponry for each character. Plus it opens Gray Fox if you beat it. It was a very impressive and well executed mod.

SMOD is fucking amazing. Hopefully this is as good.

I'd have to say the "Gran Turismo of FPSs" is badge that belongs solely to Infiltration. It was a mod for the original Unreal Tournament, and is still most certainly worth looking up despite being dead. Nothing i've EVER played (except the aformentioned Gran Turismo) has more hardcore dedication to realism. Guns number in the dozens, not hundreds like Alliance, but each one was programmed based on field-firing tests. Accuracy descrepencies accounted for, recoil varies appropriately according to gun, etc. Almost a creepy level of military fetishism, but I'd be playing today if peeps were still online with it.
Alex P @ Oct 3rd 2006 5:32PM
@10
Alliance has all that (with regards to realistic weapon stats) and then some. You can even use a browsable in-game menu and do searches for weapons based on projecticle distance, magazine capacity, size of the round, etc. It's pretty badass.
And glad you liked the article Phatcat. I'll be sure to make the changes you requested.

sweet! *goes off to read about it*
But...
Infiltration is free.. counts for something, right?
