I think someone's trying to get some hits here. :) (Is this Page 6?)

The build they used for this was about a week old and the firing upon spawn bug has since been fixed.

And yes, the game does have a learning curve. Any time you do something different than anyone else that's going to be the case. We didn't set out to make "just another FPS."

I played it at the Chicago Event and I had a blast. The control issues are mostly learning curve related than bugs (as well as not having time to customize the controls, i.e. invert y-axis), at least when I played.

The game looked incredible and I didn't notice any real framerate issues during the story mode on the theatre screen or when I played multiplayer.

I think it's going to be a runaway hit as the story mode looked great, especially with the option to play it entirely on co-op over XBL or split-screen, and what little multiplayer I did play was really fun.

No is complaining about the single player, so it sounds to me like the multiplayer has issues and needs to be tweaked.

Pay attention Cliffy, the multiplayer is most likely going to be the thing that makes or breaks GOW.

Still not worried about GOW however.

guess joystiq missed all these. thanks for the link Richard

“I have yet to purchase an Xbox 360 and I decided to go to this event and see what the machine is capable of. I came away impressed with what I would call one of the best Multiplayer games I have ever played. I am no fanboy so don’t think I say this with bias. I only played for about 10 minutes and it was enough to make me want a 360” – Dan Tyler (Indianapolis, IN)

“This game is amazing! The graphics are epic, no pun intended, and the gameplay follows suit. I got 3 curb stomps in during my play time and I doubt if that will ever get old.” – John C. Hernandez (Chicago, IL)

“When I picked it up it took a few minutes to get used to but the game is solid and controls well once you know where everything is on the pad. The chainsaw worked great and curb stomping is awesome. This is going to be a great game come November, viva la 360!” – Mark Standish (Green Bay, WI)

“Once we got past the bore fest that was Texas Chainsaw Massacre we got see in my opinion what is the must have game of the holiday season. The controls were great, even though you had to adjust for them, and the game is just plain old fun! My only complaint would be that I wasn’t able to play it again.” - Antonio Mercer (Chicago, IL)

“If I had to sum up Gears of War in five words, these would be those five words. FREAKING AWESOME & TOTTALLY SICK!” – George Rudolph (Oak Park, IL)

“After playing GEOW I now know that I will never play Halo again, at least until Halo 3. That’s right GEOW is that freakin good. This is one of those games that is even fun just to watch someone else play. Many people stuck around just to watch as the chainsawing mayhem continued. Epic, I love you guys, will you have my children?” – Lucas Brewster (Aurora, IL)

“After leaving this preview I had seriously been wow’d by what I had seen and played. I tried to stay calm and unbiased but after playing it was hard to hold back the excitement I had for this game. The single player looks orgasmic and the MP is a joy to play. I would also like to commend Epic and Microsoft as the event went rather smoothly. Can’t wait till E-day!” - Kyle Phelps (South Bend, IN)

“The game looked great you could tell that the game has been in production for years. The gameplay is simple and intuitive to some extent. I wish they explained the controls better at the preview. Press A next to a flat surface and you take cover. Face another flat surface and Pressing A allows to roll toward that cover. If you’re taken down you must wait until a teammate runs over to you and revives you with the X button. Switching weapons is done with the d-pad. Every weapon has an assigned direction. That’s all I got from the short play session. Xbox live gaming is going be worth the price of admission alone. Campaign mode looks great from the ten minute demo. The last thing I can tell you is that I’m getting this game. See you online sometime after the 7th of November.” - Oscar Murillo (Location Unknown)

I was at the NY event last night. Seeing the first level of Gears of War being played on the movie theatre screen itself was something incredible.

As for the game itself, I was first up and though the controls took about 2 rounds to get used too, the game is mad fun. No glitches or slowdown at all. I was excited for this game before, but now I cant wait.

Phranctoast I'm with you on that one but I don't think it will happen because epiuc sells middle ware to every one... Not sure how XNA would co exsist with e[ics stuff.

I remember the MS woman wanting to take the chainsaw out.. maybe that was the reason... I've heard people complain about the Melee attack stating that it seems like luck. I like the controll though... They should have put a crazy dive and roll in there though with a slide... it would make the chase cam thing alittle more cooler. So far it's looking cool though... It may not be a halo killer though cuz the gae play is different... FPS guys hate new stuff... Hopefully they don't get caught in between.

Other wise pretty graphics or detail wise this is a buy... Cliffy does an ok job making the game look fun too and I like the game play ideas he's feeled this on with... Man I was so hype about this one but I'll have to play it thur at a friend's house though... If multipler is sick it will have a happy home with Q3 and it's many mods... Hands down the graphics are going to be impressive engine wise for sure... This game will blow ya minds... So will every thing here http://206.145.80.239/zbc/featured2col.php

What is the first thing a guy is gonna do after he just got owned in game in front of the gaming public? What is a guy gonna say when his character ran around like a noob and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in front of everybody and his girlfriend?

COMPLAIN ABOUT THE CONTROLS THAT'S WHAT.

Read the articles, it is apparent.

man joystiq, what's with all this 360 hate lately, try and put negative spin on this story, you pick out the only negative comment in all those articles. "daniel" just seems like a little bitch that sucks at the game. "when I hold the run button and the crouch button the game doesn't know what I want to do" no shit, cause you're not telling it what to do.

Phranctoast. LOL such a nonsence.

"20. This game is going to be great.

Im just worried, MS will try and buy Epic because of this game. Try and make it another Halo and Bungie.

Then I wont be able to buy ut2007 or future versions for PC until its been on the 360 for 3 years or so. Complete BS"

ut2k* are always 1st to hit computers at 1st and will always be, and btw its not me to say that, the developers said so.

It's amazing as an observer the different ways Gears and Resistance are treated.

While Gears has far better graphics and far more complex controls, and Resistance is incredibly formulaic and derivative FPS with lesser graphics, because it's on PS3 it gets gushed over by sites like 1up and IGN, while Gears is always looked at with a negative eye because it's on 360.

Basically sites look at Gears with a critical eye, and Resistance with an uncritical eye because of what systems they are on.

Also as to the actual story, once you start digging through the links almost all the impressions are positive, and even the ones Joystiq call negative are more like, "jury still out" type thing, not negative. It's pretty ridiculous.

I dont mind Joystiq, they're all over the place in terms of bias, it's really like IGN, Gamespot and 1up that bother me with their obvious PS3 bias, especially as it nears launch.

Kotaku seems really bad too, their "Sony needs a major Nelson" story basically acts on the precept that Kotaku=Sony. AKA story is written as Sony=us, otherwise why write such a piece at all? Is Kotaku in the business of wishing for Sony to succeed or reporting on the industry? Apparantly the former. You see a lot of such reporting (Nintendo=Us) towards the Wii as well.

I have to throw my opinion in here too. I was at the LA event yesterday and had a blast. First the movie does suck, but heck it was free (plus free drink/popcorn) and had Jordana Brewster so I was cool with it. Also you get to watch it with 250 other geeks so that made it fun.
Secondly, they gave away a t-shirt and sticker to everyone so you already come out ahead.
As for the game, yes the control scheme will get use to as there is a learning curve. But eveything else was amazing. The graphics kick butt and I did not notice any frame slowdown at all when I played. Could be different for the other gamers.

Finally, fyi to everyone here it looks like they are going to have two more events this month tieing into GoW so look out for it and make sure to go.

I went to the San Fran event and scored me some Gears of War tshirts (ebay anyone?). I heart gorey films because I am a zombie so it was easy to get through the movie. I was basically doing backflips when it was time for gears of war.

What was interesting is that it seems like all of the xbox360 consoles were dev kits because when they powered them up for play, it started up a xbox 360 loader program with 78.65gb of available space.

Alot of interesting options for multiplayer. Like one option of how much time you have to "bleedout" before you die. It kind of reminds me of CounterStrike without the whole buy weapons part. You basically try to kill the entire team FTW, and if you shot up too much. You have to rapid press A to keep from bleeding out until someone gets you back into the game.

Another cool thing i like in multi is if you start up your chainsaw, if you charge someone but they get some hits off of you, your chainsaw powers down and you got to hold B to start it up for a chainsaw melee. So freaking awesome when you do it. The videos dont do it justice until you play it right there.

My only gripe is there regular walk pace needs to be faster. Not as fast as the dash cam but not to feel like you are in slomo walk state. Other than that, it was awesome! I took to the controls very well.

Look out for one of my GoW tshirts on ebay soon. ;]

Brains!

PS: Just repeating what I said on another post!

Resistance definitely have more weight to carry than GOW. 1st of all Resistance is 1st gen game and if it looks as good as GOW...well then 360 is in trouble :p. 2nd, Resistance has all eyes on it because it is launch game (just like kameo and PDZ were) and is supposed to show what a PS3 can do. Also, how can you judge a game that well by playing a demo? and how come there is no downloadable demo for it? First impressions are still impressions.. with games costing so much i think people will probably read reviews (metacritic.com is very good since they average all reviews) before buying a game.
