Joystiq: now entirely legible on your mobile device

Whether it's a testament to the marvels of communication technology or a frightening demonstration of the internet's ability to find you on a train, a special version of Joystiq can now be effortlessly accessed from your cellular telephones, your pocket computers and your dark electronic fruit. With a clear layout and a shunning of gigantic images, the more minute Joystiq will keep you updated on the gaming industry when you're on the move and your DS Lite batteries have died.
The folks at Engadget assure us that it works on both Pocket IE and Blazer and that the site should automatically detect your device before redirecting you to Joystiq for Mobile. However, PSP users may have to enter the site's address manually: http://m.joystiq.com
There are still a couple of bugs to be quashed, so if you see anything peculiar scurrying about on your phone, be sure to leave a comment. Our resulting foot stomp will be cruel and unforgiving.

Yay now people can read about how crappy Sony is 24/7!
Paul @ Oct 5th 2006 7:35PM
yeah - i've noticed! joystiq looks great on my pda :) thanks!
vadermaggot @ Oct 5th 2006 7:33PM
Cool! It even works on my Alltel Razr!! Nothing ever works on the Alltel Network. Awesome Joystiq!!
billybil @ Oct 5th 2006 7:37PM
theres zero no way to view comments w/ this new mobile version. not only can't i not view, i can't submit any comments either.
viewing full version of joystiq doesn't stick. it only shows up fo rthe homepage, doesn't apply to subsequent or sub pages. so even if i click on the comments link after viewing full page, it takes me to the mobile page.... !
vadermaggot @ Oct 5th 2006 7:36PM
Even the pictures show up!.... SWEETNESS Now I can Stiq it to the man in the can, haha
RD @ Oct 5th 2006 8:34PM
I have to echo billybil's comment. I appreciate the new format, but one of my favorite things to do while reading Joystiq is to read the comments left by its patrons. When I try to view the full Joystiq to go back to the comments, it redirects me to the m.joystiq.com Web site.
bv @ Oct 5th 2006 8:03PM
I agree with RD and billybil, I can't read the comments on my phone. I don't really care about posting comments as it's nearly impossible to type on a cellphone without me wanting to break it in half out of frustration. At least it's better than Kotaku. It takes me at least 50 presses of the down button before I can see the first article.
Night Elve @ Oct 5th 2006 8:13PM
I dont care my cellphone died today, he decided that suicide was the easy way.
xD
kftgr @ Oct 5th 2006 8:28PM
Opera Mini, Opera Mobile, and Opera DS FTW!! Handles the regular joystiq just fine...using mini for this reply in fact.
Blink @ Oct 5th 2006 8:28PM
Great! But guys, make sure you test it on SDTVs too, we don't want to have any angry 360 customers calling in...
Cronotrigger913 @ Oct 5th 2006 9:38PM
I've actually been using the mobile Joystiq since Tuesday. Apparently T-Mobile sells phones... from the future! Great works guys, I finally have something to live for, as my job still has not given me a computer.
BlessedBullet @ Oct 5th 2006 9:03PM
I liked the full view on my BlackBerry. I wish there was a default URL I could go to on my mobile to display all the text and pictures. Or maybe add "full view" to the top of the page
Moogle @ Oct 5th 2006 10:21PM
Is anyone else getting really confused lately by things like bv (#6) responding to billybil (#5) and RD (#10)? I've only noticed this in the past few days, what the heck is going on here?
C. Grant @ Oct 5th 2006 9:22PM
There should be a button to return to normal view. I'll talk with the tech ninjas about making sure people can always get to the normal page.
Not sure about comments working with the mobile layout. I assume they're left out for data considerations, but perhaps a link to activate any given post's comments?
RD @ Oct 5th 2006 10:04PM
C. Grant - A link to show the links would work just fine. We don't always read the comments on every story; giving a choice to view them would be superb. Thank you again for making the move to accomodate PDA and phone users...I can't go one hour without viewing Joystiq.com.
Lee @ Oct 5th 2006 10:26PM
Thank you.
I was hoping you guys would follow suit after Engadget did this a little while ago.
I am growing tired of trying to read RSS feeds through Google Mobile's converter. Hopefully more of the blogs I read will follow suit.
jarg @ Oct 5th 2006 10:48PM
I love it! I also want to read comments, it can be done, so give us the link ;)
jp @ Oct 5th 2006 11:00PM
great :D joystiq oon the go :D
Efren @ Oct 5th 2006 11:34PM
I noticed this earlier in the week. It's cool, but you need to get the comments running on the mobile site. Even if you go to full joystiq and then try to access the comments it directs you back to the mobile site.
Redbugz007 @ Oct 5th 2006 11:52PM
i've been logging into joystiq for a while on my phone but it takes a long time to load with all them add, thanks for this
KrAzYmAn @ Oct 5th 2006 11:46PM
Yeah, I just use opera mini which handles it fine. This should be good though if I just need a quick update.
Pete Dunn @ Oct 6th 2006 1:29PM
I just updated my site (http://fiddley.com) to include a mobile version as well... My method is strictly manual but I'd love to sniff for browsers. Do you mind sharing your sniffer code?
Knoxximus @ Oct 6th 2006 2:43AM
JOYSTIQ LISTEN!!
I can't access the comments with this new "PDA" mode of yours. FIX IT!!
C. Grant @ Oct 6th 2006 12:42AM
Thanks, RD!
I didn't realize there would be such demand for comments (they've been so ... vitriolic lately), but I'll certainly communicate your requests to the tech ninjas.
I need to check Joystiq too every second I'm away from the computer! This helps me the most.
Moogle: I don't follow. What's up?
Yem @ Oct 6th 2006 1:00AM
joystiq.mobi is available - and zomg one less character!
Saint @ Oct 6th 2006 3:34AM
Me too, can't access comments now like before with my Palm Treo 650

I think I just don't understand how post order and time relate to one another. Authorizing w/ email doesn't affect either. bv (8:03) was responding to RD (7:41), so the time must be set when you hit the submit button. But bv's post (#6) appears before RD's (#10), so I can only figure that post order is set when you first load the comments page, maybe? It's just confusing.
r0Be @ Oct 6th 2006 8:44AM
Like the new page setup. Looks great on my Treo. BUT....I TOO CAN"T DISPLAY ANY COMMENTS ANYMORE.
Sorry for the caps, but I wanted the complaint to stick out among the "great!" replies.
Please fix it. I actually had a better time with Joystiq on my Treo previously, even though it took slightly longer to load.
Thanks.
Deric Lee @ Oct 6th 2006 9:37AM
Yeah I noticed that the format had changed a couple of days ago when I used my Treo at work to check the site, much appreciated guys, keep up the good work.
Kyle Saric @ Oct 6th 2006 12:18PM
It looks amazing on the DS Browser in the vertical double screen view. But I would find it useful if there would be a button that would say read comments instead of go to original view or watever it is!
