Where was Too Human at X06? Dyack explains
Eclipsed by a plethora of announcements at X06, Too Human's absence went without much of a fuss. In a recent post on developer Silicon Knights' blog, President Denis Dyack explained that the decision was "made immediately after E3. We made the decision to next show the game when we are ready and we knew that X06 would not be the right time."Leaving Too Human MIA from X06 was likely the best decision after their less-than-stellar slide show presentation at E3. Dyack asserts that the game is "shaping up to be our best game to date." and concludes that "there will be a preview of the game in the future ..."
As we understand it, future tense spans a rather wide time period, giving Silicon Knights the right to show Too Human sometime in 2046 without breaking its promise. We would've preferred Dyack given the most-reassuring-yet-more-confusing future perfect subjunctive tense: "We will have had shown a preview of the game in the future."

how do they manage to keep paying their employees while years go by in between games? i understand they can have investors, but wouldnt people eventually want to see a finished product?

I'm glad its back behind closed doors. The idea of the game sounds good, but what was shown at E3 was crap. I wish more game companies would realize that their product is substandard and remove it from public view for another try. Though from what I have seen of this game they need a lot of work.

You know, you guys (Joystiq posters) can put [via Kotaku] every now and again. It's not like people only get their gaming fix from *one* blog and have to choose. You wouldn't lose readers, but you might gain some respect (they give you guys credit all the time).

SK is becoming another RARE ..ie turning out crap once they head over to MS. Too Human is all hype, and once it bombs on release it will be the end of SK. bye bye!

Thanks for the sentiment Bored. We do Via Kotaku if we find things there. We just did two days ago. http://www.joystiq.com/2006/10/04/wii-hardware-is-basically-a-gc-says-miyamoto/
In case you haven't noticed, we're on the same beat. Turning over the same stones is not abnormal. In this case, we found it at another site (Pro-G) who we, in turn, via'ed. Why is this so difficult to understand?

Nintendo got rid of Rare for the same reason that they probably did not sign an exclusivity deal with SK; far too long turnaround times.
Seems like SK has gotten their egos far too bloated for their own good. I mean Eternal Darkness was a good game and their MG remake was average, but what have you done for me lately? These guys have hardly produced any commercial success yet why are people willing to continue to finance these bums?

#6 Agreed.
I hate to sound like a Nintendo fanboy.. but the best thing for Rare.. and NINTEDO quite frankly would have been for Rare to stay with them. They seemed to have a great working relationship in terms of creativity. I feel the same goes for SK. It's a shame, because Eternal Darkness was an amazing game. and on Rares side... Goldeneye and PD were awesome. Its just a shame.

Nintendo has know that development studios are made up of ... shock ... horror - developers. Most of Rare's best developers had left when they sold it to Microsoft. Alot of good it's done Microsoft. Silicon Knights as a second party was influenced by Nintendo just as Retro is and Rare WAS. Once that influence disappears, it seems the quality goes in the tubes.
Nintendo as a publisher will not publish a polished title. It MUST play well and not have any bugs. You can critisize a Nintendo published game for the type of game that it is, but you cannot critisize the polish. Their games will run without issues.

First of all, Nintendo never gave up or sold RARE, because Nintendo never owned RARE. Secondly, Conker on the Xbox and Kameo on the 360 are both amazing games. People have this "grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" mentality about RARE & Nintendo which is just being fanboyish. Microsoft, if anything, has given RARE the freedom & the tools to produce amazing stuff. I have no doubts that the upcoming RARE IP's will be nothing short of great.
If you want to blame Microsoft for somehow ruining RARE & SC in your twisted fanboyish minds, then please explain the absurdly huge successes of Bungie, Bizarre Creations, Turn 10, & Ensemble. The answer is you can't. Just face the facts that RARE isn't making games for the Wii, and if it eases your pain to say they don't make anything but crap anymore, then say it to yourself, because nobody else cares.

This should be a European PS3 launch title.
Today I jab at the Playstation army.

Nintendo did own RARE. Not all of it, but a large percentage of it. The gained about 300 million from Microsoft for RARE.

Look at Eternal Darkness. Tons of delay and change of systems. Everybody forgot about the game and when they released it it was really well received and it's in the top 10 games on GC. I'm sure SK will delivers.
