squirrelphister, english is a contextual language, and also has words with multiple meanings. cgi can mean a lot of things. cgi in the video game industry means a non-in-game-engine representation video of a game. astronomers call oxygen a metal. maybe you and i are really in a game so everything we think we see is a computer generated image; cant prove that were not.

anyway, good argument.

Your theory is seriously flawed:

1) Game trailers are almost always developed by a third party so no time was wasted by the team.
2) Game trailers cost a lot of money and are usually payed for by the distributor as marketing and promotion, therefore, it's not coming directly from the developer's pocket.
3) Many, many, many game trailers are either at the very begining of development and are actually a good time to be thinking about how you want the game to end up. Or else they're developed very late in the development cycle to help pump up the fans like only a little hollywood can do.

As long as a company is open and forthcoming about whether or not they're showing CGI *Cough Unlike Sony* I enjoy a fun little movie. I would point to any trailer done by Blur studios as an example of what a sucessful CGI trailer should be. Often these trailers are even bundled with the game as a part of the gaming experience.

This is especially important with an RTS like Warhammer, Halo Wars or World in Conflict where the actual game play isn't going to ever be exciting or in your face action. It's a chance to give your imaginatin a bit of help while playing.

Problem:

Most companies don't do the CGI for the game. That stuff is usually handled by a third party. All DOA CGI movies where not done by Team Ninja themselves, Halo Wars CGI, done by a third party, not the “Ages” factory, and the Smash Brothers Melee Intro was done by Buildup, not Nintendo. Companies toss the art assets and many game properties at third party companies to make the scenes for them. Now-a-days, developers have little time to make these elaborate movies. I personally feel that CGI is needed in games to set tone at some points, but gamers should never expect CGI to be game play graphics. Next Gen we'll see he ousting of CGI when all content is downloadable and people realize that CGI takes up space. But for now...we must deal with it. :)

I agree with what everyone else says - post the graphs every day, post the graphs once a year, do whatever you like. Just make sure the graphs are good. If you want to spark debate about something or post editorial opinion to get a little discussion going, just post that instead (and not with a trite link to an article BobsGames.com or whatever making the same point, just to satisfy the "most post link with article!" requirement every blog here seemingly necessitates). The graphs have too much baggage now. And was a graph even needed in this case?

Frankly, given the huge amount of negative feedback these graphs have been getting, I'm amazed you're still trying to force them through rather than dropping them altogether. Still, that's why I'm Joe-Average-The-Internet-Scrub moaning about these things and you're Vladimir Cole, Graph-Overlord-Trying-To-Make-The-World-A-Better-Place-Through-The-Medium-Of-Lined-Paper-And-Pencil.

Whoever claimed that Gears of War was pre-rendered must not have seen the gameplay videos...there's several of them...

After playing Dead Rising, it is blatantly obvious that pre-rendered cutscenes are no longer needed. While there are still a few polygon collisions, it really doesn't detract from the story/mood/overall look of the game.

Will they stop using pre-renders for advertising? Nope. Because consumers are suckers. I'm just hoping that FFXIII plays as good as their teaser looks. I'm disappointed with FFXII.
