I feel sorry for everyone pre-ordering at Gamestop/EB. If you think they are not going to sell the systems as a bundle, then your crazy. I'd be stunned if you could get a PS3 from them for less then $800.00 since they ALWAYS bundle new stuff like this and dont just sell the system itself.

Thank you very much for posting that about the preorders. I live by Akron Ohio and the Gamestop sold out in 29 minutes. There were only two available after me.

I'd actually be a little shocked too, because of the supply vs. demand on the PS3, but I haven't seen a "forced" bundle at EBGames (can't speak for GameStop) since the XBOX/GameCube launch season.

Slim PS2? No bundle.
DS Phat and DS Lite? No bundle.
PSP? No bundle.
XBOX 360? No bundle.

You guys are idiots--no one's going to buy this thing at inflated prices or otherwise. Just look at the recent comment from Joe Gamer and most others in this thread--everybody that is attempting to pre-order has intentions of selling it on Ebay, even people I know that hate Sony are doing the same so if the majority of buyers are planning to sell--who's going to buy from them? Don't forget that the 360 Ebay hype was just that--look at the number of successful auctions from last year that were legit and you'll see a much different picture than what is currently accepted as truth on the Internet. You guys are going to get burned. Sony is done, I can see the future before it happens. Bye Bye Sony, enjoy life with Sega at the bottom, if your company even survives the next 5 years. Microsoft has already won this round of the console wars. America, FUCK YEAH! Nintendo will take over Japan and Microsoft the rest of the world, a new American player will emerge and gone will be the days of Jap dominance in the Interactive Electronic Entertainment industry. It's only a matter of time now. Project Midway indeed. Did somebody say Hiroshima?

I got my pre-ordered today! I was the third person in line. My EB (Lakewood, CO) said they had 7 available to pre-order. They gave a page long list of games available to pre-order with a $5 deposit.

I got mine today. I went to a few different stores before I scored mine. I dont think EB/GS will have problems because most of them wouldnt accept over 4 preorders per store! I happened to visit a very high traffic store so they were allocated 16 of them, me being 13th. Even if I have to wait a few weeks after launch thats fine, it will still be sooner than the majority of people and I plan on camping out at Best Buy on launch too...

Anyone with a PS3 can get quite a nice profit from it if sold before the New Year.

from wiki:

Vertical supply curve

It is sometimes the case that the supply curve is vertical: that is the quantity supplied is fixed, no matter what the market price. For example, the amount of land in the world can be considered fixed. In this case, no matter how much someone would be willing to pay for a piece of land, the extra cannot be created. Also, even if no one wanted all the land, it still would exist. If land is considered in this way, then it warrants a vertical supply curve, giving it zero elasticity (i.e., no matter how large the change in price, the quantity supplied will not change). On the other hand, the supply of useful land can be increased in response to demand -- by irrigation. And land that otherwise would be below sea level can be kept dry by a system of dikes, which might also be regarded as a response to demand. So even in this case, the vertical line is a bit of a simplification.

In the short run near vertical supply curves are more common. For example, if the Super Bowl is next week, increasing the number of seats in the stadium is almost impossible. The supply of tickets for the game can be considered vertical in this case. If the organizers of this event underestimated demand, then it may very well be the case that the price that they set is below the equilibrium price. In this case there will likely be people who paid the lower price who only value the ticket at that price, and people who could not get tickets, even though they would be willing to pay more. If some of the people who value the tickets less sell them to people who are willing to pay more (i.e., scalp the tickets), then the effective price will rise to the equilibrium price.

sad but true. Thats what happens when you rush an inferior system to the market. Now they're trying to make up for it with lame add-ons...........ala 32x

Ahhh, a bite. But what happens, genius, to your beloved ideals when the demand is minimal and the supply is 10x greater? PP anyone (Playstation Portable, don't know where the capital 'S' comes from)? Ohhh, so sowwy...

Also, Wikipedia by their own admission is "the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit."

Sorry, but if you ever graduated the 3rd grade you'd realise that the Internet, much less an openly editable encyclopedia, is not a credible source, no matter the issue.

I predict a situation similar to the PP--plenty of supply, tons of hype, very few buyers, no sellout--book it.

Here's some thoughts for you to chew over:
http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/14.09/sony.html

Read it and then go lookup Iwo Jima, you might learn a thing or to.

Ja? The magic numbers are 8, 13, 3, and 21.

people are getting turned away from pre-orders because those people are also trying to get a ps3 to sell on ebay!

Those of you who are hypothesizing that there won't be money to be made on these on ebay, you're crazy. I ended up making $800 off of selling 360's on ebay, and I wasn't even trying to-- I just happened to get 3 orders all filled while trying to get one for myself! There are far fewer PS3s initially available than 360, and far more demand. Even if there were no good games at launch (which there are) the thing still plays PS1, PS2, DVD and BluRay in HD... something many millions of people are very interested in. My guess is that these will hit $2000 on ebay, and if not I will keep it for myself as I want one anyway. What I'm trying to do is simply finance my own box by selling another, as I did with 360.

Whether I keep mine or not depends on which is more spectacular: reviews for CoD3 & Resistance, or price on EBay / Craigs. No real feeling either way right now.

I have a friend that paid through the nose for his 360 off ebay at launch- you know the drill, got into a bidding war with some other sap with 2 minutes to go on the timer - then promptly found a 360 core in local shop 2 days later.

Buying at launch is a mugs game

I took an informal poll at the EBGames and Gamestop I waited at (Chicago):

- Units available for preorder at EBGames location: 7
- People wanting a preorder at EBGames location from 8am-10am: 20+ (some left after realizing they would not get one, me included)
- People in line who got preorder who were planning on ebaying the console:
5 yes
1 no
1 maybe

- Units available for preorder at Gamestop location: 13
- People wanting a preorder at Gamestop location: 30+ (same as above)
- People in line who got preorder who were planning on ebaying the console:
9 Yes
2 maybe
1 no (me)

Interesting..

For those talking about getting screwed on e-bay, why don't you just use craigslist? You can do it in person, and there won't be any problems, unless you get robbed, in which case you're stupid for not doing it in a public place, and not packing a 9mm like I do. BTW #9 out of 16. If anyone thinks they still have a shot I think the mall stores are getting more than the stand alones. The stand alone near me only had six and I was #7, so I went to the mall and am 9 out of 16. Good luck.

I got my pre-order this morning from an EB Games. I was the first person in line. I got there at 3am (which turned out to be unnecessary since no one else showed up until 8am). The store opened at 10am and now I have my receipt for a premium PS3. Turns out that 2 employees were already on the list to get a PS3, so I was really #3 on the list.

I will sleep in on November 17th, casually stroll into EB Games and pick up my PS3, come home, take pictures of it, stick it on Ebay, and then get ready to have a great Christmas (in which my Wii60 habit will be supported, and I'll get my girlfriend something nice, too.)

I'll get a PS3 eventually... when the price drops under $300 and when Sony proves it can produce PS3's without a large number of them breaking in the first 30 days. Yay making money!

I know it's the center of YOUR universe but your simple situation with the 360 is hardly reflective of the rest of the world's, much less the current discussion. You're comparing apples to oranges--the 360 was 400 US Dollars at the high end and there was tremendous SYSTEM demand (not Ebay re-sell demand). Ask Apple Computers if price is a factor... Don't fuck with Microsoft and don't fuck with the US. Nagasaki, anyone?

Would you belive me if I told you I'm a T-808??? If Back To The Future isn't real then how is Sony going to create 4-D with only 1.21 jiggawatts of power in the ancient Crab Battles documentary? I thought the 4th dimension is Time...?

See Unit 731--those bastards still won't acknowledge what they've done. Remember it took TWO atomic bombs before they surrendured--THINK about it...

Watch and learn. Bye Bye Sony. Good riddance. Eine Kline Koonka Shine.

I have one question, that may have already been asked:

How many of these systems are the core package and how many are the premium package?

If I preodered a PS3 and was stuck with only taking the core version I would be upset. This applies to people that would actually play it. Otherwise, for Ebay, its just as good.

Our Ebay in Gainesville, VA had 16 systems for the 30 in line.

Sorry, I meant our EB store had 16.

Anyone claiming that the PS3 will not sell on Ebay for jacked prices is just not paying attention. Parents are IDIOTS. Kids today are so spoiled that parents will buy any product for any price just to shut their kids up. It's true. There are enough parents out there with $2000 to blow on their 14 year old kids for Christmas. No parent wants to hear their kid cry, and no parent has the balls anymore to tell their kid to grow up and get over it.

As an interesting side note, I have noticed a trend of the people who want to sell their PS3s on Ebay. Most are adults (20-30) who have picked up the system to generate some extra cash. It seems that the only people who will shell out $1500-$2000 for the PS3 on auction will be parents buying the system for their kids at Xmas time. No gamer would spend that much money for a system; they would wait for the next shipment. This puts the "system for adults" squarely in the hands of children, especially for the initial six months to a year. It seems Sony will now be regarded as the "system for spoiled brats". WHo's the kiddie system now?

Me, I'll buy mine in a couple of years when there are some games I might actually want.

I give up.

I swear i believed in the human race at one point in my life...

but now i know.... dumb (literally.. as in mental capacity), self centered, close minded, gluttonous people outnumber any intellectual (or even semi intellectual), balanced, open minded people.

It's a scary thought. I'm just hoping that the dumb ones (i hope you know who you are) are just kids and have a lot to learn in life still... Oh man do i hope...

heres an interesting tidbit, i was in gamestop today , of coarse to get a ps3 to ebay, and there were 4 others in line , there was a total of 8 to preorder, out of the 8 people in line only 3 were going to ebay it the other 5 were going to keep the system, even tho all 5 of them agreed no good games came out until next year... go figure ..so apparently there will be ebayers wanting to buy this ps3, that will not fail... even tho i am a xbox fan boy, i think the ps3 has great potential,.. a shitty price tag, but potential-

btw, out of the group that i was with the people keeping the units (for racial slurs)

1 african american - keeping ps3
1 japanese student - keeping ps3
1 70 year old man - keeping ps3 for son's xmas present
1 45-50 year old man - keeping ps3 for his 3 sons for xmas present
1 caucasion gamer - keeping ps3 to game

dont tell me there is no demand, those 5 things is what america survives on,... please ...these things will sell on ebay
