We asked at our store and the manager said you could preorder any system you wanted and Sony was expected to fill that allotment. I don't think Sony plans on selling many of the 20GB model since everyone at the store I was at preordered the 60GB model.

6300+ walmart stores
4500+ gamestop/eb game stores
4000+ targets
is 148000

and i gonna guess another 10000 for mom&pop stores, sam club like stores, and waht no, so 158000 stores.

so 3.2 ps3s for every store? not including online orders.

is wallmart taking preorders? i remember when halo 3 came out, there was a huge line for that, but people were just going to the walmart accros the street and walking out with it.

Rumors of employees snatching up systems before consumers could get their hands on them drew the ire of many waiting in line.

---

Being someone that works at Gamestop, I can say that's impossible. The corporate office actually set a very strict limit as to how many employees could actually reserve a system. I can't give away numbers, but pretty much at the most it would be 1/4 of the scheduled shipment. I have a feeling that even employees that got a reservation are slightly lucky or a manager.

unbiased squirell, why is it that minorities are the only ones that you mention rather buying Jordans, Roccawear and PS3s with their welfare checks then get jobs? Im pretty sure theres plenty of white people that do the same thing so you only mentioning minorities pretty much prove that your either racist, ignorant or just feel like making fun of people.

For those who plan on selling a PS3 on eBay, be sure to check out eBay's policies as they have been cancelling auctions today: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/pre-sale.html

Man, why does my stomach start to hurt when hearing about EBGames, PreOrders and standing in line??! I think I'm having flashbacks to the 360 launch. That was one experience I do not want to go through again and I feel sorry for a majority of the PS3 people because you will probably be doing the same thing. Everyone was so confident with the 360 pre's as well but when launch day came and there were only a few actual systems many people were pissed. Good luck!

In response to these competing consoles somehow having to do with race... I work at an EB, and yes, the crowd is more racially diverse regarding the PS3. But that seems only because all they know is Sony and the PlayStation name. So when they think video games, they think PS2, PS3. A lot of people that come in from different countries consider every system a "Playstation" be it by Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo. I've had a number of non-white customers who ask for Playstation stuff and actually mean GameCube or XBox. It's just what they know. It's all marketing

AZN kind of sucks at statistical analysis. That's all I have to say about that.

Two comments. First, the guy notes that the Wii will not sell because of all the "jumping around." Nintendo is on record as stating that subtle moves will work as well. Granted, the public may not be aware of this, but word will get out.

Secondly. with EB limiting the employee direct pre-sells, I see no porblem with the employees getting them. I'll further go on record to say that if an employee who does not make the "top 2" stands in line (without hiding out in the store overnight or early), then they are also entitled to that pre-order. At that point, they become a customer just like anyone else. Now, if they are getting discounts on the console and get first pick, then we have a problem. Other than that, half these kids probably got/kept the job just for this and other pre-orders - so it would suck if that were pulled for them. The jobs aren't great jobs, so they've "done their time" as far as I am concerned.

I used to work for a movie theater - I got to see movies early or free. Then again, I spent my weekend evenings sweeping up popcorn. It's the same concept here, but with a more obvious supply shortage.

I got to oneof the Gamestop stores here in St. Louis at about 11pm thenight before, so I was #8 in line. This storewas supposed to be one of the few that get 16 consoles at launch. Plus, they'll be opening at midnight on November 16. So, after I pick mine up at 12 in the morning, I'll be heading over to Best Buy to rub it in to the people who are still camped out.

I would have called bs when the manager said that they are only getting 11 systems. Systems are sent in cases of two. When the guy at the gamestop around the corner said that they are only getting 9 systems I stayed in line a still was able to reerve it.

Really aZn_1080p? For real? Here in DC (and my home in Philly) many of my family, friends and I have 360s. Also riding the Septa and the Metro (which both roll through the city streets) I see an equal amount of people playing DS's and PSP's regardless of ethnicity and gender. BTW, I'm black, from outside of SW Philly and engaged...a far cry from a midwest wanna-be soldier farmboy...

aZn_1080p postulates: "personally I think its because the game lineup is not dominated by 'GO ARMY' type FPSs where you take out the big bad 'terrorists', and has a broader range of titles and more cool, stylish, and edgy games. "

Really? what games are you even talking about? Aside from Resistance what games are even unique to the PS3 let alone cool, stylish and edgy. Are you confusing the Wii with the PS3?

Also what the game where you take out the big bad terrorist? I want to get it for my 360.

The only army based FPS I can think of for Xbox 360 and is Call of Duty. And isn't Call of Duty 3 a launch title on the Ps3?

wow. I wish where I lived the line had started at 6am. I drove by last night and there were people camping out so I joined them. Had I not, I wouldn't have got one. The 16th person showed up at around 5:30 when he got off his third shift job. We must have told 20-30 more folks there was no point in waiting between then and 8:45 when the manager showed up to let us in and take all our orders before he opened up. My friend works there and he estimates he must have told 50 more people over the phone and another 50 over the counter that they were all out of pre-orders. Apparently after we left, some more folks showed up at around 9:15 and started a new line under the assumption they were the only ones waiting...only to find that at 10am when he opened the store for regular business all the pre-orders were gone. Apparently those folks got pretty pissed that he opened early and claimed that it wasn't fair to them. Only had that kid showed up 30 minutes earlier he would have seen all of us with out sleeping bags and got right back in his car and left.

I meant to take some pics as I figured you guys would be posting this, but in the hurry to get up there and claim a spot I forgot my camera. No worries. I'm #9 of 16.

"No news today, so check out the lamers waiting in line. Nice."

You are at a gaming blog calling people who waited all night (or morning) to order a game console lame? Your in the wrong place to be saying that sort of thing don't you think?

Regardless, this is a blog. Not a news site. If it's nothing but news you want go to 1up, gamespot, or IGN. Dick.

azn_1080p...

first off. Did you read the part about how almost everyone in line already had a 360 and was also pre-ordering a Wii?

These people lined up in the morning. At my local EB in Columbus, OH there were 16 of us. All white, not that I really took notice until you brought this up. So I guess that proves your point wrong. Is it really necessary to turn everything into a racial stereotype? For someone who is asian (yourself) I find it funny that you are so quick to come up with these ridculous connections linking certain races to certain consoles. And people say white people are racist. Ha!

Maybe not so much as everything for you. Most Best Buys will be opening at midnight to sell them. Have fun waving your PS3 at people who just bought theirs.

Thinking from an East Coast sensibility....and given that lines at most EB/GameStop Stores weren't bad with most people only having to arrive like 2-3 hours before to get a good spot....

Which would you rather wait out in......given that the PS3 releases on 11/17??

A) 8-10+ or more Hours in cold weather with 30-50 people HOPING they'll get a system.....(when the store will only get like 25)....(Don't forget the PS2 Launch)

B) 60 Minutes casual wait time....Temperature about ~ 65-70 Degrees.....with a line of 8 people...and not have to worry with the hassle come launch day??

I say this pre-order experience went about as similar as my PS One, and Dreamcast Pre-orders.....which were very well run launches IMO.

First off unbiased squirell, Germantown has a much higher minority rate than Laurel. Laurel is mostly white redneck farm land people with a very small area of Laurel (where the mall is) having a minority population. Germantown on the other hand is the exact opposite. Laurel is mostly poor white trash farming types while germantown is mostly ghetto (nothing to do with race or skin color just style) with a small population in a small remote corner of rich people (white, black, asian, and hispanic).

I am working in a pretty crappy town in PA and i went to Gamestop at 9:30 (opens at 10) and i was about 5th person to get it- appreantly the store opened early for preorder and when i walked in i was the only one there. I went to Ebgames at the mall right after getting there 9:40 and there were 5 people before me. when i asked the 3 before me about ps3 preorder they said "what ps3 preorder?". I stayed quiet and when the store opened they went to look for games and i became 3rd in line. I am hoping to get 3 but if i get 1 i definitely will keep it. I guess there is a good point for living in a town full of mostly old people.

It's too bad that only the first 8 people will be able to get their PS3 preorder, since each store will only have about 5-10 PS3s on launch.

I find it amusing that this hasn´t been brought up yet. But we´re talking about the PS3 preorders and there are like only 15 people in line on average!!!! LOL!!!

This should make Sony very concerned that there wasn´t a revolution or havoc during the preorders!

it is not amusing that 15 people in line on average because the info was pretty much hidden till last minute. Sure there were rumors but the "official announcement" was like a day before the preorder on gamestop.com. your average gamers dont go on gamestop.com everyday and probably wont go to digg and other sites very frequently. Casual gamers probably wont do it either. So 15 people per line for a preorder is a pretty big deal imo... the managers kept a tight lip over it as well- i heard the rumors about tuesday release and i talked to the manager and he just denied it outright on monday. Plus many people have lives and cant like skip work/school to line up on a weekday....flextime ftw!
