Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD ... in two years, Blu-ray to win out? [update 1]

Another piece of good news! Well, projected good news, since in the "format war", both sides are pretty much apathetic. Rightfully so, but given a few years down the road, market research firm Forrester has indicated results favoring Blu-ray by a decent spread. The basis for the champion's belt? Support. Think about who is supporting each format:
Blu-ray:
- Sony
- Disney
- Apple
- Fox
- MGM
HD-DVD:
- Microsoft
- Toshiba
- Intel
- Universal
Both have Warner and Paramount. In this respect, at least moving away from computers, Blu-ray has a large advantage (especially if that extra space yields valuable extra features). The other indicator? Console sales. If Sony can meet its 6 million sale quota by mid-2007, which
another study says they should easily be able to do if supply permits, Blu-ray will most likely take the front in the war. Don't get us wrong -- it's going to be a very slow, boring, long-term battle, but if this hypothesis presents anything, it's that Blu-ray is going to stick around for a while. Until then, let's enjoy our "old-fashioned" DVDs.
