the two player co-op is what really hits my sweet spot. PDZ was so much fun with online co-op regardless of how bad the game was. A good game with online co-op will be fantastic. If they only had online co-op for the story mode in GRAW it would have been so much better. I think co-op is something that every shooter should have.

That damn flash site kept crashing on my computer. When I'd watch one of the videos, it would freeze, and I wouldn't be able to strike another match and go to another one. Maybe it was because I was on firefox and not IE. I dunno. Maybe I'll try it again tonight. and WOOHOO to online co-op!

I really can't think of anything that can be said that'll live up to the hype. I think it'll probably be something like "GoW has gone gold"

I agree with dsub. Co-op is like cheddar; it can make anything better...except maybe Ice cream. I can't speak from experience there but I'm fairly certain cheddar would not be good on ice cream.

Ten maps and a handful of different game types should suffice for my multiplayer needs. But what I'm really hoping for is some Halo-2-on-Legendary-Co-Op type goodness. I'm curious as to how they are going to handle difficulty settings. Has there been any word on that? Does changing the difficulty make the enemy harder to kill and/or the player easier to kill? Do they just shoot more accurately or do more damage? Is there any real change to their AI on the different settings?

The EGM cover feature on Gears made me want to purchase a 360 just to get Gears. Sounds frickin' unbelievable.

Armos:
It means the game's content is finished, and has passed all quality assurance tests and is ready have retail discs printed out :)

Speaking from an avid Halo 2 perspective, I can tell you that 10 maps isn't a lot for a game of this caliber and expected longevity. Hell, I remember in February of 2005 (yes, 4 months after the game came out) that the boards on bungie.net were going nuts looking for new maps.

Maybe downloadable maps in the future?

I shouldn't be saying this and letting the cat out of the bag but I've been working on some of the marketing for Gears of War and it is a suprise attack. At the end of this 48 hour period, the game will officially be released in all major stores that sell video games.

They wanted to keep this hush hush but I am too excited to keep it a secret anymore! Who else is ready to get their game on?

This game should be pretty cool. I hope the maps are big with only ten available.

I agree with everything dsub said, including the cheddar-on-ice-cream thing.

I really wouldn't want to pay $80 for this game, no matter how much hype it's getting. Luckily, I'll be getting a (free) reviewable copy.

I think the game will be pretty darn good. Unfortunately, I don't think Epic realizes that hype (especially of this magnitude) is more of a hindrance than a help. Nothing can live up to the kind of hype that this game is getting. I still remember how angry I was after sitting down with Halo 2 and buying into the hype. I've never been more disappointed by a game. On the other hand, Resident Evil 4 had decidedly less fanfare once it was released, and man-oh-man, did that hit the 'sweet spot'. Repeatedly.

Hype good. Too much hype bad.

The greatest thing about Doom was 2 player co-op.

If gears has it, I'll buy a 360 this christmas. Absolutely. And I am a Die-hard nintendo lover/ms hater.

I knew sony was getting bad when I started liking MS over them.

Daniel: Funny thing about Halo 2. I did NOT buy into the hype, but did eventually buy it. Turns out, I thought it was a fantastic game, and still do. Guess its all a matter of perspective and just ignoring the hype in general that will get you the most joy out of the game in the first place. Same goes for getting excited about almost anything else games related before actually trying it out.

Good call saboola. That's why I'm trying to remove myself from the Wii hype. I'm uber-excited for it but realized about a month ago that I have to step back and not get caught up in all the excitement, or I'll likely be disappointed all over again. There's nothing wrong with being excited for a system or game, but only to a certain point.

"At the end of this 48 hour period, the game will officially be released in all major stores that sell video games."

Yeah - right...

That's why it's street dated November 12th, with a manufacturers ship date of November 7th. You don't suppose that the standee in GameStop & Game Crazy with the little calendar on it means anything, do you?

All of the stores know to not fall for the coupon trick (ala Madden) and it should be a good launch.

I've never heard of this game called Restance that you speak of Flash. Who makes it? I've heard of Resistance: Fall of Man. Is that what you were referring to? You know, the game that isn't even out yet, but somehow you have already played it (and Gears of War somehow) to know that it is a better game and Gears of War is just a "poorman's version" of "Restance" as you call it? First of all, Gears o War has been under development for alot longer than Resistanc...sorry I meant "Restance" so it can't really be a "poorman's version" of anything. Gears of War isn't even an FPS like Resistance. It's a third person shooter.

It's amazing how people can judge a game as if they have played it when they've never even seen it in action.

dsub,

Flash says that because of how much it will cost to play "restance" -- definitely not for the poor man! :)

Flash must have been too busy servicing Sony to bother with spelling. But then again thats still no excuse, next time shut your pie hole Flash. Ignorant rants like yours make other Sony fanboys seem almost inteligent.

"Going Gold" is when the code for the game is finalized and made into the final master disc that will be used to produce the game discs for shipping.

That master disc is often a gold colored disc. This is where the term "Going Gold" comes from.
