Reuters explores Wii's prospect as a sustainable console for the masses and its pre-launch buzz effect on the industry. Analyst Takashi Oya suggests software makers and distributors are shifting attention to Wii including Electronics Arts in light of positive anticipation for the console. As a result, the world's largest game maker has upped its total number of Wii games from five to seven. From the article: "With the year-end shopping season approaching, expectations are running high that Nintendo will repeat the success of its DS handheld machine next month with its new game console, the Wii. But the novelty of Wii's one-hand controller may fade quickly if game makers are slow to come up with fresh titles." Titles like Wii Sports might not cut it infers 1UP editor Sam Kennedy who calls the game a "fun diversion" that won't "capture your attention for weeks."
Also of note is an interesting adoption challenge for Wii when compared to the DS as described by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata: "For the DS, whoever found it interesting carried it with them and showed it to people around them. That was a great demand driver. We cannot expect that sort of push for a stationary console."
