Happy Monkey Island music day
PS3 this, Wii that... whatever happened to the days when all you needed for a good time was a crappy computer and a copy of your favorite adventure game? Relive those days with a selection of music from LucasArts' brilliant Monkey Island series, performed on piano, mandolin, and live six-piece band (cool!)Previous game music days (please excuse the two week gap)

These are pretty alright, but the CD version of the first Monkey Island was probably the best thing ever.
The_boo @ Oct 13th 2006 5:43PM
In fact, I think it's high time I break that bad boy out, it's been a few years. Maybe that will calm the voices.

The third game in the series was my favorite, but I truly like them all. You really can't go wrong with a good Lucas Arts adventure game.

Ohhhh there's a monkey in my pocket and he's stealing all my change!
His stare is blank and glassy and I suspect that he's deranged!
The whole Monkey Island series takes up a section in my top 10 favorite games :)
JPRacer @ Oct 13th 2006 5:57PM
I wish someday they make a quick compilation with updated graphics for people that never experience this series.

I love Michael Land's music from the LucuasArts days. The "Monkey Island" series and "THE DIG" soundtracks were my favourite.

The first vid absolutely rocks.

Now, all we need is a Barbershop Quartet remix of "A Pirate I Was Meant To Be".
Seriously, when I played MI3 a second time, I immediately saved right before Guybrush could "Thanks guys. You were a real help out there.", and gave it it's own file. Afterwards, I would go back to that scene over and over again, and I still think that scene is an amazing example of how audio can be used in a game. Oh how I wish more games used the iMuse system (the thing that makes the music change a different mood at any given time). Would've done wonders for Ocarina of Time.

Why does all music come in video form these days?
Can an old man get an mp3 in here?
NoBullet @ Oct 13th 2006 8:31PM
Hey I video'd the original Lucusarts composers who did the music for Monkey Island, and other adventure games. This was the Videogames Live concert in Hollywood Bowl. They played music from Outlaws, Grim Fandango and Monkey Island. I know the video sucks but I mostly recorded it for the music.

Wow, awesome, I've been playing a lot of Monkey Island recently. Dusted off my original CD of MI1 and beat that.
Gozan @ Oct 13th 2006 11:47PM
Crappy computer? Next to a picture of an Amiga floppy? Those are fighting words, you scurvylivered blogmonkey!
Joe @ Oct 14th 2006 12:00AM
Try OCRemix's "Monkey Brain Soup for the Soul"! It's a really great MI2 Medley. In honour of the day, of course.
Matt @ Oct 14th 2006 1:48AM
Original monkey island 1 cd? I've got it on the original 5.25" disks. I don't even think they make those drives anymore.
Faith Naked @ Oct 14th 2006 3:58AM
I still own two Monkey island games and I love them. Lucasarts games are the best and no game series will ever replace it.

"I'll leave you devastated, mutilated, and perforated. - Your odor alone makes me aggravated, agitated, and infuriated!"
played this game for an enternity, time t' break out t' old floppy disks and get this runnin' again. Next Gen - who needs it when you have class like this!"
LaughingTarget @ Oct 14th 2006 11:26AM
One of the few games I ever got a strategy guide for, mainly because it had the lines for all of the various songs in the game. Had a great time irritating my English teacher by randomly breaking into one of their songs.
"For those long, cold, shipboard nights;
We've got boxers, briefs, or tights;
We got cotton, silk, or satin;
In styles Anglo, Dutch, or Latin;
When you sail don't take that chance;
Wearing nothing 'neath your pants;
Trust...Silver's Long Johns.
They breathe!"
Ryan Williams @ Oct 14th 2006 6:01PM
Monkey Island series? More like best video game music ever. And that's not a statement I make lightly.
Ryan Williams @ Oct 14th 2006 8:03PM
Ah man, the second half of the second video (LeChuck) is what you want. It completely puts the first half to shame. :D
Adam Fields @ Oct 15th 2006 12:30AM
Yeah, there's no demand for funny adventure games. I can't imagine why they're making so many these days.
LoopyChew @ Oct 15th 2006 3:02AM
Okay, that LeChuck theme from the last video needs to go into the next Guitar Hero game.

Chris @ Nov 4th 2006 10:20AM

Monkey Island is the best! If I could have three people at a dinner part it would be Guybrush, Stan and Murray, hahaha!
Speaking of Murray, here is my Murray inspired 3d animated talking skull, arrrrr!
