Joystiq at Sonic's 15th birthday party

The blue dude with an attitude turned fifteen years old yesterday and he celebrated at NYC's DigitalLife show. Fans and confused onlookers watched as Sonic was presented a ridiculously large birthday cake by psuedo-celebrity Lacey Chabert. Hungry attendees of the show (myself included) scarfed down the cake, and laughed at the man inside the Sonic suit, knowing it was impossible for him to blow out the candles on his cake, let alone eat it. Sonic, the cake was delicious.
When questioned about how it felt to be 15, Sonic responded, "It's strange. I'm growing hair in places I've never had hair before." He then sped away and, like in his upcoming Xbox 360 game, my camera was unable to follow him. Read on to see more pictures, and video from the celebration.

Fifteen years of Sonic. Nowadays, he's a punk riding around with thugs like Shadow. I hope you clean up your act! College is only a few years away!

Size comparison: this cake is almost as large as the upper torso of this man. However, the upper torso of this man is only 1/4 the size of a PlayStation 3 (not pictured).

Girls that play video games?! The PMS Clan was also on hand to help out with the ceremonies.

This part of the cake was non-edible. I found out the hard way.

YUM! Happy birthday, Sonic.

So is the camera better in the PS3 version of the same game flamebait?
LunarDuality @ Oct 13th 2006 10:09AM
The PS3 version wasn't playable at DigitalLife and it had a 70% complete sign on a running video that looked (upon glancing) identical to the 360 version (85% complete I think) which was playable.

Off topic - Just got back from ebgames and all 18 Wii were called for before the door even opened. Looks like its midnight at walmart for me.

PMS...Are these girls fareal? I just checked their site. About half of them look like they might be gamers, but the rest just look like desperates looking for modeling gigs.

Id like to know more about digital life.

I agree the camera was weak on the Demo on live. I was looking forward to it. If they tighten it up then I will buy it. Im going to have either $500.00 bucks of credit at Gamestop or some nice cash off of ebay comming soon so I will be looking to buy a few games.

Seriously, if Sonic isn't in the next Smash Bros, they will have hell to pay!

Happy Birthday ol' true blue.

After seeing that video I wanted to jab my eyes out. Is that normal?

I didn't know that Hedgehogs grew hair. Happy birthday you invisible blue friend! I hope when you grow up you wont turn out like Shadow.
PS: Wasn't Sonic's birthday back in June? June..... 21st or something?

Not that I've ever really liked you Sonic, honestly, I'd rather play Monster Land than a Sonic game any day the week, but, it is sad to see you faulter so much.
Gamedaily did a little piece saying how Sonic was all but lost and failed to even mension the fact its gotten pretty good previews on Wii saying that the Wii almost felt designed for the title.
Guess that might have killed his doom and gloom.

Mr. Yoon, have you considered the potential advantages of speaking nicely about gorgeous young women with a lengthy resume in animation and even a few games? She may be out of your league but you shouldn't forsake the dream.

RE: PMS Clan
They ARE REAL gamers. It's really amazing. I got a chance to speak with a few of them, and they're so connected in the industry, it's not even funny. Many of them know about games that most insiders of the industry don't even know about.

It looks like Sonic and I share the same birthday!

Wow, can't beleive it's been 15 years. I was playing Sonic before I learned how to read, so it's great to see a fictional animal get that kind of honor. Not very fond of the guy in the costume though. He moves like he was trained to play Tweetie Bird at the nearest Six Flags.

Is the hedgehog hair growing in new places as hard and stiff and prickly? That would be a problem for ol' blue. But 15 years? Has it been that long already? Makes me feel more mature as I grow old and discover things.

I designed the cake for Sonic's Birthday. The portion of the cake that you claimed was non-edible was not non-edible. Only sonic and the very top tier that he was jumping over was non-edible. The bottome 2 tiers were completely edible.
