A few things:

1. The beta has limited capacity. Only X number of players can be logged into the world at once. This will surely lead to some unhappy demo players.

2. According to the site, the beta "doesn't start" until tomorrow though the server is up now. This might describe why the majority of players are being dropped like crazy.

3. Making a character is taking me way too long.

It's taking so long because I can't decide what I want to be. The number of options is pretty much equivalent to the other PSO games: bunch of sliders and tabbers with options going as high as 40 in some places and as low as 2 in others.

Judging by the options in the demo, I'd say there are no more than a couple hundred "completely unique" variations. The marketing people will take that number much higher, I'm sure, but realistically, eyebrows won't define your character.

I like the character creation. It was pretty deep and all. I would've liked a bit more though. Especially with the robot dudes (Forgive me, I haven't played previous Phantasy Star games). They only have a few options for each section. =(

But, when I got in the actual game...it froze in the first 5 minutes during the tutorial. Not a good way to leave an impression on me, Sega.

Oh well, I'll just start it up again, as long as it doesn't freeze.

Help!
When I press start in the main menu It says

"Your privacy settings prohibit you from playing Phantasy Star Universe on xbox live. Please change the contents access to everyone in privacy setting in your gamer profile."

But my settings are set to everyone.
:(

@ ECUUnlimited

It froze in probably the exact same spot for me too... probably a bug, hopefully they catch it. I just skipped the tutorail the second boot up and it's been working fine.

To be honest, I can's understand why I'm so into this game, still. After having played it extensivly (6 chars up to lvl 100) on the Dreamcast, then again (4 chars up to lvl 200) on the Gamecube...

But this edition just simply blows them away. And I mean that. I've only played it a little (stupid work) but I'm at lvl 10 and I can honestly say that I will be playing this game right up until the next one drops...

But enough typing, I gotta get some hours in before I need to sleep (I work overnights...)
