Our readers, possibly inspired by this week's posts on our wait for PS3 pre-orderers, have sent in a small flood of tips sharing their experience waiting to pre-order the Wii this morning (oddly enough, we received no similar tips from PS3 pre-orderers). The stories are notable for the disparate numbers of pre-order units available and the number of people willing to line up in the morning's Wii hours (har har). Continue reading for quick summaries of some of these stories, and feel free to leave word of your experience with either pre-order in the comments.Joystiq reader Blake grabbed the eighth spot in line at his local EBGames at 8:30 a.m. only to find out at 9:30.a.m. that the store would only have three systems available (compared to 14 PS3s). He then proceeded to grab the 11th spot in line at a nearby Gamestop, only to find that they had 10 systems. Blake's comedy of errors ended at 9:55 a.m. when he took the 12th spot in line at a third store which only had -- you guessed it -- 11 systems.
Reader Peyton Gauldin found only four people waiting when he entered the line at his local store at 9 a.m. By the time the store opened at 10 a.m. the line had ballooned to nearly 40 people, mostly twenty- and thirty-something men -- waiting for 17 available systems. Despite the funny looks from passerby, Gauldin said he thoroughly enjoyed waiting in the 40-degree weather to reserve his system.
Reader Chris found ii suspicious when the manager at his Wilmington, NC store told the line there would be ten systems available, then amended the number to eight shortly after an employee arrived. Even stranger, another employee said all stores in the area were getting 18 systems. Hmmm....
Reader Tommy Hutchinson was 17th in line when he got to his local EBGames at 7:30 a.m. this morning. Unfortunately, the high-volume University of Pittsburgh store only had 14 units available for the 34 people in line by the 9 a.m. opening, meaning Tommy went home without a $50 pre-order receipt. Hang in there, buddy.
Reader Dignan17's experience was much better. He got in line at 7 a.m. expecting a mad rush of people, only to find he was the second person waiting. By 8 a.m. the line still had only four people, but by 9 a.m. there were 14 people who received pre-order slips. The 15 or so who arrived after that were unfortunately turned away.

I got up at 5 am and stood outside my local ebgames. It was not until 7 am that someone else got there. His name was Casey, and with EGM in hand waited in the unusually cold San Antonio weather with me. He and I were joined later by an older lady at around 8. THe EB guy got there at 9:30, late, and also 100 dollars short in his register, so he was a bit slow. By the time he opened the store at 10:05, the line of people was at 10. I reserved the system, two wiimotes and nunchucks, classic controller and point card. The total was 110.00 to reserve because the accessories were up from the usual 5 bucks to 10 bucks. Forunately I had extra cash. While the EB guy fumbled through the reserves, I answered questions for the people standing in line about the Wii, how it worked (most were interested to know they could play with their kid because of the news and weather features) and also made a few jokes with the other ninty fanboys. The best quote from the EBGuy (on the phone with his DM):
"Wow, there's actually a line? Al, there's a line out here!"
He later said the PS3 did not have a line, and reserves were taken until 1pm.

I got there not a moment too soon, as they had handed out 10 cards already. A few moments after arriving, more people filed in after my daughter and I, and an employee bearing the final, eleventh card handed it to me.
I felt bad for everyone else in line who didn't get one, but don't worry, folks GameStop will be selling $1400 bundles on launch day!

thats cuz the people who want a ps3 have actually have a life

I saw the list he had of systems availible. There were 14 total, with 2 taken by employees. I was the first one on the list, and this was in San Antonio, Texas.

The EBGames store opens at 9:30, so I took a little time from work, and got there at ~8:15.
I was a little surprised that there were over 25 people waiting. I walked up, did a quick head count, and my tally came to 27. I started crossing my fingers that this was a store that got 30+ units (I picked the store because it opened the earliest in the area, to minimize the work missed).
After waiting about 3 minutes, one of the employees came out, and handed me a slip of paper numbered 25, and said - 'that's the last one!' I nearly broke into a bar of 'I got a golden ticket,' even though the paper was plain white. Apparently there were 29 units alloted to the store, and the employees took 4 of them.
After that, at least 20 people tried to join the line, but #24 and I took turns breaking the bad news.
I've already started inviting folks to a Wii party on the 19th!

By the end of '06 we can expect:
Xbox 360's - 5+ million
Wii - 4 million
PS3 - 1 million
Are any developers going to want exclusives for the PS3? Exclusives are what sell systems. What's the point in buying a PS3 if you can get almost every game for the 360, less expensive.
Almost every Wii game is going to be an exclusive. Assuming the wii-mote fulfills it's promise, the controls hsould make up for the graphical short comings. It should be a good standalone system, and at least be everyone's second system.

1st in line - 11:00pm
2nd through 4th - 5:00am-7:30am
5th - Me (8:00am)
The line gradually grew to 13 by around 9:15am. 13 is where the manager said he was stopping pre-orders. They had 16 consoles coming in, and three had already
been reserved by employees.

The plan was to wake up at 8am and go back. I overslept. Showed up at 10:15. The person in front of me got one but I didn't.
I was mostly bummed because there was a huge note sitting on their counter that said hold TWO for the manager, and then 15 tally marks with 13 of them crossed out as I got to the counter. It seems wrong but I guess I would do the same thing.

Will this happen when they arrive suddenly they don’t have enough to fill orders since employees yank them. I hope GameStop watches it very carefully, you don’t pay your employees to stiff your customers.

I had my DS and cranked away at Mario VS Donkey Kong 2, meanwhile three PSPs appeared amongst the queue for wifi gaming. (Nintendo nerds playing PSPs?! Say it aint' so!)
I was a bit surprised by how little everyone knew. Questions like "does it have a hard drive" and "what's the nunchuck" were discussed, and someone declared that they heard there was going to be a DVD player add-on for the Wii. Someone else insisted that they were going to play the Wii's Zelda with a GameCube controller because they wanted to avoid having their arm getting tired. The EB employee informed us that they would be taking preorders for extra remotes and nunchucks, but that they didn't know how much they were going to be. I knew the answers to their questions and truth to the rumors, but decided to keep quiet. No mention of eBay; everyone seemed excited to buy the Wii for themselves over eBay profiteering.
At 10am the EB opened and the fourteen of us shuffled in. I preordered an extra remote and nunchuck, which both had prices in EB's computers $2 above what Nintendo told us they would be ($41.99 and $21.99).

Hopefully it wasn't just some glitch and I get screwed. Time will tell.

I was first there, but decided on an Sausage, Egg, and Cheese McMuffin™ and meanwhile one dude had shown up, so I was #2, which was all good.
The store had 12, actually 8 after employees, so everyone who was in line when the store opened got one (6 people) and after a couple of people drifted in, one lady, who had come from another store that was already out (there are 2 other gamestops in town) was #9 and was not happy about that. The phone was ringing most of the time, also, with people asking about it.
Altogether I expected more of a turnout. I didn't know the people in line, but I think we all enjoyed each other's brief company and confusing the mall walkers. I got my system and Zelda and Red Steel, and am contemplating going back to reserve another controller set, but figure it's probably too late for it to really matter at this point.
I wasn't the most excited person ever, just wanted to kind of get the chore over with and get started waiting on the real thing to come.

I left work for an early lunch break at 10:30AM and called two nearby stores. They were already out, no big suprise after reading all this stuff. I called a third store, in our local large mall and they told me to hurry, because they still had a few. I arrived at 10:45 just in time to be #26 out of 32. I left the store with my preorder at 11:08, with time to spare to go through the McDonald's drive thru and put some truth to my 'lunch' break. $75 down got me the system, Zelda, an extra remote and a classic pad.
I'm not quite sure why fortune chose to shine on me today, but I'm grateful. Never underestimate the power of sheer dumb luck.

I was number 20 out of the 34/36 and arrived at 10:10. They also handed out a list of launch titles in case if anyone wanted to reserve .
I'll swing back by the store and payoff my reserve and maybe pay for a couple games. Good stuff

the mall around 8:30 a.m. and their was no one. And this was
insdie so we suffered no cold. Around 9:00 one lady arrived and
the manager followed behind her. We were in a bench and this was
inside the mall and the manager told us take tickets theirs slots
and theirs only 14 of them. About 20 minutes later 3 other guys
arrived only 2 of them got tickets and then some lady arrived
reserving it for his son. At 10 we all went in and since me and
my bud had arrived since 8:30 a.m. I was number one then he was
number 2. We went to the gamestop since I had reserved Tp for the
GC ages ago to switch that to the Wii their was a big line at
Gamestop took us like 30 minutes to finaly get to the cashier. When
we went back it was around 11:00 am and we decided to check out
how many Wii's were left at EB games and their was one left and it
was being reserved at the moment. So their was barely anyone at EB
games but it seemed their was lots of people at Gamestop. I think we were lucky since we had to choose
what entrance to choose in the mall one lead to EBgames and the other
to Gamestop but we could only go to one because the midle part to get
from one to the other in the insdie was blocked by a closed JC penny.
I actualy chose EB games since that were I had reserved battlefield
2142 and I wanted those 20$ to go towards my Wii.

Due to some cricumstances beyond my control I couldn't get to the South Plains Mall in Lubbock, TX, until 9:45 am. By then, I was number 13 in line. The manager arrived, saying they had 8 (they had 7 PS3s). I took off for an EB across town, which had 8 (I was # 9 in that line). I went back to the mall, irritated. The manager called around, and found that Plainview (40 miles north) had 8 left.
After a half hour drive, I got to Plainview, which then had 6 left. I reserved mine, another person from Lubbock arrived (leaving 4) and reserved one.
The South Plains Mall store was in the top 5 stores in terms of reserve numbers for Halo 2, but apparently that wasn't considered for PS3 or Wii allocations.
Anyway, I got mine, despite the half hour road trip.

Why not move all Joystiq Wii fanboys to Wii fanboy?

I can see the whole "massive queue" deal being a lot more fun, and a good chance to beat some folk at Tekken or Burnout Legends, but the real lack of hassle from British retailers is interesting, to say the least

Puyallup, WA: About 9:30 they handed out place holders (Game Cube trade in sleeves), and the last guy in line got the last one. After that mostly soccer moms and their kids started to show up, so I directed them to the mall where I got lucky and got a PS3 pre-order on Tuesday. The saddest part was the looks on the faces of the kids when they showed up and we had to tell them that they weren't going to get one there; you'd have thought someone had killed their dog or something from the reactions, but it still wasn't enough for me to give mine up for them. Hope they got one at the mall.

I went to GameStop/Software Etc. Ala Moana Brach at 8:40 AM. There was already a small line forming before I went there. I was the 19th person in line. The first person came at 4:30 AM. Over hearing the manager talking with the first person in line that there were people banging at the doors at 1:30AM.
Do you remember the Hawaii and Guam trade in testing preorder? Well there was only 21 tickets for the pre orders. But there are 14 people who will got their pre order without waiting in line. The are label as "testers" which I assume are the people who traded in their games for the testing preorder program.

I had a quiz at 8:30 that I wasn't planning on missing. Afterwards, I left the class and drove to the nearest mall. I had called earlier asking how many they had. They said "less than 40." Anyways, I got there, and there were only 5 people waiting there along with me. When the store opened, there were only 10 people in line, and 36 Wii pre-orders to go around.
I had it easy.

6:50am w/ my lil bro. we were the first ones there ftw! the next guy at 7:15, then 7:30 and so on until 14 people were there and then all those that followed slugged off in their failure of shame.
The funniest part was, one kid got their too late, but I was surprised as he looked like an extremely hardcore nintendo guy. He had on his triforce shirt and his mushroom kingdom keychain lanyard, but was late...Anyways, he said he'd show up here just in case because a buddy of his was supposed to get in line for him in his home town. 45 min. later, he got no word from his friend and tried his luck at my location to see if someone's credit card didnt go through or if by some miracle there was an extra lol. Sadly, they remained filled but he ended up paying a man $125 for his spot lol. The part that killed it was when his buddy finally called him he was in line for him, but it was too late and this guy wasted $125 for nothing lol. People gave him suggestions to sell his second system on ebay to make the money back but if the eb staff finds out they could take action as everyone knows re-sellers are prohibited from reserving consoles. Felt bad for the kid, but it was pretty damn funny when he snapped on his friend on the phone and all burst into laughter lol. Oh well, I got mine for being extra careful and sacrificing some sleep because you never know if you're the most hardcore in your town; however, this morning, I apparently was =)
#1 FTW!!

My experience was pretty smooth this morning. I'm the manager at a radioshack inside a mall, so i have access to the mall way before anyone else, and theres an EB right across the hall from me. So figuring that people would start lining up as soon as possible I got to my store at about 7 a.m. and the mall doesnt open until 8 with stores opening at 10. So I waited around a while and watched some tv. 8 oclock came and noone was at EB. 9 oclock came and still noone was there. At about 9:15 I decided to go over there and wait around, I was the first person in line. Then about 10 minutes later a few other people showed up. By the time the store opened there were only 5 people in line. I have no idea how many systems they got but the line was nothing compared to the line they had the other day for the PS3's.

Not knowing that there was a GameCrazy in my area, my family went out for Mexican, and while waiting for the food, i spotted a Hollywood Video with a GameCrazy Adjacent. I merely wanted to see if the rumors about their early pre-orders were true
By the time i walked out, i had it
That's what dealing with the emotional pressure of waiting for GameStop will do, while coping with the stress of school and social life

When Wii launches I am going to make breakfast then drive over to wallymart. If they somehow are out of Wii's which I doubt, I will go to the next store. If I don't find a Wii within the first 5 stores I will wait a week.
Why? Just like sex, you need to take it slow instead of rushing in and causing disasters. From buying the console and games to the smooth motions with the wand--- i mean controllers it will be a pleasurable experience.

And I had to work today, DAMN IT!
The last plan I got to get a Wii is to camp outside FutureShop or Best Buy at Marché Central since both store at a 5 min walk from each others eheh.
Have a camp fire and shit, bring a TV and my modded GC with around 60 games XD
ah~... 1 month and 6 days remaining...
