Japanese hardware sales, Oct. 2-8: The PSP beats the DS ... sort of

It looks like the Pokemon weren't enough to keep the DS Lite's sales numbers anywhere near what they were last week. However, this week wasn't kind to any of the hardware as the top five systems each dropped in sales numbers compared to what they were a week earlier.

- DS Lite: 124,137 150,252 (54.76%)
- PS2: 28,264 3,728 (11.65%)
- PSP: 21,050 4,269 (16.86%)
- Xbox 360: 2,101 94 (4.28%)
- GBA SP: 1,532279 (15.41%)
- Game Boy Micro: 1,273

170 (15.41%)
- Gamecube: 488 35 (6.70%)
- DS Phat: 260

7 (2.77%)
- GBA: 12

2 (20.00%)
- Xbox: 8

5 (166.67%)

The DS Lite still gave the PSP a good spanking, outselling it by more than 100,000. But hey, look on the bright side, the PSP kicked the DS Phat's ass!

Man, I knew I shouldn't even have looked at PSPfanboy comments. It is a Sony system, after all, with more than it's share of fanboys (even after loads of bad PR). Obviously Japan only needs one handheld, and it's not Sony's do-everything-in-mediocrity machine. The only reason the DS Lite dropped so much, incidentally, is that IT IS SOLD OUT IN MANY PLACES! I'm sure there are plenty of people in Japan STILL waiting to buy a Lite, especially with the newest version of Pokemon.

Yup, My bro is in Japan at the moment, He only just got one of the 183 shipped DS's that were at one of the game shops, He had to get there really early and there were apparently over 300 people there.
The title is false, even if it does say "sort of.."
The DS sales are only less because game console sales obviously rise when a highly anticipated game such as Pokemon is released.

PSP is PoS. DS Lite is killing the PSP.

2006 Totals for Japan:
DS Lite: 4.983.903
DS Phat: 955.644
DS Total: 5.939.547

PSP: 1.381.966

Lets do some maths:
1.381.966 / 5.939.547 x 100 = 23.27%
Meaning: The PSP only managed to sell 23% of the DS sales.

In other words:
5.939.547 / 1.381.966 = 4.30
Meaning: The DS is outselling the PSP by more then 4 to 1. So for each PSP sold Nintendo sells 4.3 DS'.

Sometimes even I love numbers :-P
