Stupid is a disease and the bits of government trying to regulate video games are all afflicted with it. This time, we travel to Oklahoma, where a bill criminalizing the sale of games containing "inappropriate violence" to minors was passed into law last June. A countersuit by the Entertainment Software Association immediately followed. Chances are the law will be deemed unconstitutional (just like eight other attempts at similar laws in other states) as the term "inappropriate violence" is incredibly vague. Why do lawmakers always make it the fault of the game, or the game developers, or the game retailers? If a minor (let's just assume under 16 to keep the idea of minors having a job out of this example) has enough money to plunk down on a game, chances are it came from their parents. Do their parents care where the money goes? They should -- it was their money. When the kid can drive/have a job, it's harder to keep their purchases in check, but seriously, by 16, what's inappropriate violence, anyway? Stupid. It's not the game's fault! All little children should be like South Park's Butters and play Hello Kitty Island Adventure. Give us your thoughts on this ongoing cycle of dumb.
