The text described the Xbox Live Marketplace: "There's no limit to the content downloads that are possible.Perhaps you'll get updated rosters for your preferred sports title, or new multiplayer maps for a free-for-all frag fest. Many content downloads are free, while others may cost you a few Microsoft® Points. It's a great way to enjoy a favourite game with something new."

In other words, some stuff you have to buy with the MS points, other stuff (like demos, including the Gears of Wars demo - unless MS does a Sony and goes completely bonkers) is free.

I certainly hope there are no plans to charge for demos in the future. Then again if a Gears of War demo was put on the Marketplace before the launch for a couple hundreds MS Points, I doubt it would have a hard time selling.

Back in the days when we got our demos on discs, it usually involved us purchasing a magazine that I otherwise wouldn't have cared about in order to get my hands on a demo I wanted.

Point being: Paying to play a demo isn't a foreign concept to me. Would I be happy about it? No. Would I still pony up a couple bucks to play a demo for a game im looking forward to before it comes out? Probably.

you know, it could simply be a case where a graphic designer just didn't get the "no gears of war demo" memo.

hee... demo memo.

Sssshhhhh! Stop giving MS ideas!! Imagine if they hadn't even considered charging for a demo, then read this post and thought "hmmm, actually..."

If anyone thinks of buying a demo you need a life or you have alot of money. i mean gesh if you cant wait a couple weeks for a game then you need to seriously find another hobby or a girlfriend. But i am sure it doesnt mean they will ever charge. Thats like charging a fee to watch commercials. it wont happen.

I don't trust Xbox.com. They're always wrong when it comes to this.

Ha, I could very well see this happening..

MS will charge like 100-200 points to get the Demo, becuz of the hype they'll release the demo b4 the game launches..

I myself will pass on the Demo if this is the case.. It might be tempting but in my eyes demos should be free..

Charging for commercials will never happen? It already has happened, in the gaming industry no less. EA charged people to watch a pay per view commercial of Madden 07... and guess what? People bought it.

my understanding of the situation was that it was the developers who determined the price of their content, not microsoft.

and frankly, who'd actually buy a demo? the whole point is to let gamers try out their game in the interest of encouraging future purchases.

Anybody consider that there WILL be a demo but that it won't arrive until after the launch of the game?

That makes me most sense to me as Gears will have a terrific hype bolstered launch and then after sales drop off they can release a solid demo to attract new customers that were hesitant to buy the game "sight unseen".
