I know xbox360 is not selling well anywhere on earth, it continues to get dupped in japan and lackluster sales in both U.S and Europe and also no hit game yet. But whos to say that the ps3 is going to sell well among every fucking american casual gamer and soccer mom or even Tom,Dick and Harry will they pay 600 dollars just to get a ps3 in order to feel cool, or just to play madden maybe, but most people wont buy a ps3 because of the price, when the ps3 hits 200 dollars in 2010 the ps4 will be around the corner and by then most casuals and soccer moms will then switch over from ps2 to either wii or xbox360. I know many people in japan europe and America are very content with thier ps2s and many wont upgrade and switch over to the xbox360 yet, most are still waiting on the ps3 and most are still misinformed about the cost of the ps3. I know onething for sure the ps2 wiill probably continue to outsell the xbox360 for a year or so but whos to say is the ps3 goign to outsell the xbox360, that wont happen. Dont worry xbox360 and ps3 fanboys the Wii owns all. Go xbox360

Fact is that people bought the original xbox in droves because there was no comparable competition for PS2 at the time now there' xbox 1 to keep MS gamers happy for a while.

I still feel that 360 sales will go up when more people start buying HDTV's and games like Halo and GTA4 come out so to me this article doesn't mean much.

I believe you are in the right direction with your post. I think a large number of the 360 games that are out right now would have been released later and been even better had there been other nex-gen competition out already.

There really hasn't been the real need by developers/publishers to set the bar very high as of yet. As the new consoles are released and begin to fight for market share I think it will become neccessary for developers and publishers to produce more compelling experiences in order to stand out in the market. EA has been able to sit back and release marginally improved games during this transition period and from one point it is understandabale. Having to support so many different platforms puts a real strain on the resources especially when you are trying to produce products on an annual basis. If they do not begin dropping aging platforms they will (and in my opinion already have) begin to lose relavancy in the market. I would prefer to see them produce high quality games on only a few platforms then produce so-so games on all platforms. Their current direction has produced very poor itterations of their products on handhelds, and stripped down versions on the 360. The PS2 and XBOX versions of their games are still the better choice especially considering the price point. I have no doubt they will coninue to make money, but will tehy be known as an innovative gaming company or as budget title publisher?

#96, et. al. There are plenty of fan sites out there that present numbers and try to make them look legit, but these are usually simply recycling what some marketing exec has said to the media. Quoting from nextgenwars.com, "these numbers are only estimates". Again, why not just use whatever independent numbers such as NPD sales when they become available? The last I've found showed worldwide 360 sales at 3.2M thru 03/06.

But hey, you can all speculate 'til you're blue in the face, and it don't mean squat. Perhaps a short history lesson is in order; the web is full of articles you can pull up showing MS's optomistic sales projections for the 360, which are later revised downward. I'm not saying they absolutely won't meet their latest proclaimed targets, but I've yet to see any evidence of 360 sales being on fire all of a sudden.

Does anyone believe the MS Zune will cannibalize 360 sales? Could it not also hurt sales of other nexgen consoles if it sales well?

Is this a poor strategic move by Microsoft? I have to believe that if the Zune is to be successful it has to have strong holiday sales. Ipods and other DAP's are targeted at the same audiences as video game consoles, and holiday spending budgets can only be stretched so far.

the problem is that alot of people are not true gamers.why go buy a 360 because of halo 3?true gamers try all sort of games in different genres, you don't buy a system for a couple of hit titles.

The problem isn't software for the 360... it's supply. Microsoft simply couldn't get enough of them in stores at launch. They could have easily sold another million if they could have gotten them on store shelves.

Keep in mind also that the post-E3 summer is always a dry spell for games... for all platforms. So there were not a bunch of AAA titles to spur sales.

Anubis I would like thank you for asserting an articulate and admirable argument. The asinine admonitions asserted by novacharged are absolutely unacceptable in affable argumentation. If arrogant and addled adolescents are artlessly going to advance apocryphal affirmations then there is no point in this analysis of systems. Please from henceforth use acceptable argot and not that of Novacharged. And Novacharged, you have just been served aliterally.

that is one of the most perfect games i have EVER played.

Halo and Halo 2 were good (but all FPS become tiresome eventually): I sold my xbox to get a PS2 so the kids could play Singstar, Eyetoy.
I'm thinking about maybe getting guitar hero.
I think this Genre of game (fun) is set to be the biggie:
FPS with team online games and headsets (I prefer SOCOM over Halo) are incredibly common and cheap now, driving games (yawn), soccer (yawn yawn), flying games (yawn yawn yawn).
Real time strategy is a genre that I like at the moment like Warhammer 40K, but again there are a lot of these around, so I think the killer games of the moment are things like singstar, and to date, PS2 is king in this area. Wii seems like a mini-assault by virtue of the controller into this area.

There are a mass of great games at near zero cost for the PS2, which means you can go to charity shops, and get lots of varied cheap games.

Not sure why Eyetoy Chat didn't take off, probably because Sony made it so hard to get access to it because they were worried about being sued.

There is a workaround to make Network Access disk be an Internet browser. It crashes on a lot of pages (memory too small perhaps?), which is why I think Sony didn't make it easier to use, but it's cool all the same. Better internet access will be a useful feature on future consoles.

The Xbox was good, titles were pretty limited though.
I like the idea of making it easy to make a game through an SDK for the Xbox 360, but I wonder if this will make a lot of difference, because you need a lot of investment in a team to make scenery, music, sounds effects, costumes, characters etc to make a decent game these days.

The Xbox360 media might be a problem 600meg isn't much these days. Maybe you can have more data on the web, so this might not be an issue.

The Wii looks like a lot of fun. I wonder if someone else will make a sword-like controller for the other consoles. I thought the GameCube was neat, and I might get one cheap one day. I bought an Old nintendo 64 which was much better than I thought it would be.
I bought and sold a Dreamcast, which I didn't like.
I'm not really sure why, the games just didn't seem very deep I guess, and the graphics seemed way worse than the PS2/Xbox that it was supposed to be in the same generation as. Being first-in, you risk people saying "meh it's not such a leap forward".

I'm not sure anyone knows why a console does well. But the PS1 and PS2 have had whatever it takes.
It seems to me that killer games are getting harder to find, and that at some stage, the game engine will become unimportant, and the content (music, textures etc) take over. Time for 3d glasses to reappear I think, but with positional data like in the Wii controller, as well as a Wii type controller. This way, I could stand in my living room, look around and see a tennis court, and play tennis with a friend on the other side of the world.

I've seen an Xbox360 twice in a shop, but never turned on... why?
