Ultimate gaming experience or pain in the neck?
We doubt this is a legit product, though The Daily Mail claims the abomination comes from Toshiba and allows "the wearer to experience a full 360-degree view on a 40 centimetre dome-shaped screen."
Bollocks!
Funny, regardless of authenticity, however.

Why is she playing in front of a (rather nice looking) screen if she's wearing that thing?
vc @ Oct 16th 2006 11:15AM
Oh, that and many more questions.
How does she breathe?
Won't it fog up inside?
Why use a TINY model that only accentuates the size of the beastly thing?
I'm pretty sure it's fake.
But it's still funny.
Branewalker @ Oct 16th 2006 11:28AM
Looks like Canti from FLCL.

Newflash: After reports from IGN that labeled the PS3 controller the "worst next-gen controller" surfaced on the Internets, Sony was forced to go back to the drawing board yet again..."
dsub @ Oct 16th 2006 11:30AM
holy crap where did she get that Bioshock Halloween costume?
Jojo @ Oct 16th 2006 11:31AM
I think the ultimate 'next-gen' will be when they nail down virtual reality. I know its been tried in the past and usually provide more headaches then great gaming experience, but you can only go so far with immersiveness when you are looking at a flat screen. I want to look around a country-side, Oblivion's for example. I want to feel like I'm in the world, not just watching it on a screen.
HOVA uk @ Oct 16th 2006 11:33AM
Nice add of englsh swearing lol..
First Wii, then this whats next, a flinstone racing game which requires you to run on a exercise bike?
mmm...
> @ Oct 16th 2006 11:33AM
That looks photoshopped ... the reflection of the screen on the dome doesnt match whats on the screen (there are two slanted lines on the reflection, but, none on the screen).
BlindsideDork @ Oct 16th 2006 11:34AM
Jojo...just wait for Nintendo to do it in probalby 10 years ;)

This reminds me of Dark Helmet.
Ah, Spaceballs...
gameclu @ Oct 16th 2006 11:39AM
That helmut combined with the wii-mote would make one hell of a Darth Vader simulator.
gameclu @ Oct 16th 2006 11:41AM
doh! I can spell helmet, I sware.
crono141 @ Oct 16th 2006 11:46AM
If wii is successful, I can see VR coming from nintendo in 2 or 3 generations. And it will be GOOD VR, not that crappy VirtualBoy stuff.
VirtualBoy: 30 years ahead of its time.
Franky Digital @ Oct 16th 2006 11:42AM
Great picture. They've had the technology to do HUD-helmets for a long time now, and it's just not a fun experience. What with the suffocation and all.
Mabui @ Oct 16th 2006 11:48AM
Toshiba: Hrm..what to do.. hrmm.. *peers at an old CRT television* Wouldn't it be cool if.. we inverted that television..so the picture was on the inside and you wore it on your head!?
Customer:.. that television actually looks kinda heavy..um, won't that be uncomfortable and hard to breath?
Toshiba: Your points seem valid.. but I want to wear a whole television on my head! Lets do it!
Michael @ Oct 16th 2006 5:55PM
The design is a bit surprising. It looks to be at the polished prototype stage (or there would be cables sticking out everywhere). If so, I'm very surprised they would have made it so tall. The height accentuates tension on the head - along the lines of balancing a short pole is much easier than balancing a long. Or balancing a CRT monitor on your head. It could be mostly empty/lightweight though, but hey..
Garcian_Smith @ Oct 16th 2006 11:54AM
Ah, the Daily Mail - easily the worst Newspaper the world has ever seen.
Do you know they once ran a front-page headline about the evils of gaming and called UT2004 a 'murder simulator'? Of course overlooking the fact that you shoot weapons that don't exist, in areas that don't exist at enemies that - yep, you guessed it - don't exist.
Sneak @ Oct 16th 2006 11:54AM
Virtual boy on steroids is what it looks like.

it's spelled bullocks, not bollocks. If you're gonna pretend to be british, do it right.
mupwangle @ Oct 16th 2006 1:52PM
Eh? Bullocks are young bulls. Bollocks is the correct spelling.
If you're going to mistakenly correct someone who is correct in the first place then I wouldn't bother.
ZAN @ Oct 16th 2006 1:57PM
I bet she gives great helmet
Mike @ Oct 16th 2006 2:09PM

You can clearly see the cockpit from the flight sim in the monitor being reflected off the Giant Helmet, but its not actually on the monitor we see.
I want to know where I can find THAT technology, forget this helmet.
Mossflower @ Oct 17th 2006 11:17PM
That is definitely the ultimate gaming experience. I need to get me one of those.
Joe @ Oct 16th 2006 6:09PM
Can you imagine the kind of static you'll get from that thing? Everyone will have anime haircuts.
Also, that thing looks like it was made from a vacuum cleaner.
