I have not bought BF2142, despite being a huge fan. I simply cannot allow media to penetrate my most favourite past time. I despise marketeers; they invade almost every aspect of my environment with pushy, annoying adverts on TV, ridiculous jingles on the radio, copious leaflets spewing out of magazines, in-your-face interrupting screens on the Internet that hound you whilst you complete an order or fill out a form!

I will not buy any game that allows these punks to deliver their putrid branding bullshit whilst I am trying to immerse myself in a fantasy distraction!

Don't play the game. Better still, don't buy it or return it to your retailer. EA is trying to milk you for new revenue streams and we are all idiots if we allow them to do it.

Boycotting would be nice, it would serve a message. keep pounding EA about the issue, and they may change thier mind. BUT, what happens if they go the route of Pay by month to be online ? Then what?
I work in Information Assurance. I work with issues like this all the time. I am going to ask the site spamhaus.org to dig into this alittle and see what they classify it as. Lets say some one wants to or has bought this game. Run anti-spyware on it like CA's Pest Patrol. Then as the game plays, watch open ports in DOS with the NETSTAT command lines. Do some research and find out what IGA uses for an IP range and block them via the firewall. Beware though, most of the smarter spware companies have their spyware gathering servers out side thier normal server range. Start with Google, find out what you can about the spyware company, and get an IP/www address. After getting www address or IP, go to swhois.net site to find out more about the company. Add their addresses into your firewall block list. Make sure you block their DNS servers if they have any. If there is a programmer out here can identify which script runs to feed the ads, maybe thats a quicker way to disable all this, until EA pulls its head out of its stink pot vice think pot. I'll foward all these APPROPRIATELY negative comments on to EA Sales.

Seriously,
You're all pissed that EA is 'in-game' advertising. I bought the game and have been playing it for months. I have never seen anything that would influence my decision in the consumer market.

Spyware? Wipe it. Anyone who is ready to huff and puff on the internet about somebody adding spyware to their computer should seriously consider getting a spyware/adware removing program. Spyware, adware, and malware are downloaded onto computers around the world all the time. Fighting them off is your task not theirs. 'B-but they didn't tell us!" Oh reallllllly? So you mean that piece of card that you neglected to read after you took the manual out of its casing was just for decoration? I see.

Boycott
#49 "I pre-ordered this game but am cancelling as well. Goodbye EA. You have lost a customer for life."
#36 "No more EA for me. I am through with them and their greedy asses."
#7 "it is official i hate EA."
... Really?
You would miss out on this amazing game (omfg, advertising) just because EA included IGA in the programming? EA turns out best-sellers worldwide. To cancel any relationship with them is plain stupid. When we were in Grade 1 and 2, saying 'I'm not gonna be ur friend no more' usually resulted in running back to the person you just ditched. If it didn't then either you a loner or the person you ran from just ate your dog. EA puts time, effort, and skill into all their games. So boycott it. Go ahead. But the rest of us that still have sanity left in our heads and realize that the free world is still a lonnnnnnnnnng way away will sit on the either side of the fence and smile as you inch your way closer and closer back to the other side.

Its your choice, but its also stupid.

PS: just in case some of you are stubborn and bitchy, i do not represent EA in any way. I just enjoy their games. All of them. This was a way for them to create money and if one person hadn't read the fine print and announced then no1 would have noticed because the difference it makes is tiny. Honestly.
PSS: I really need to watch my run-on sentences.
