I'm not sure why we should care. So there is a 5 digit number next to M45TURCH13PH, so what?

Interesting read. I don't know who made the word "doubling" but it makes no sense and is DEFINATELY not a known term among anyone, so whoever is calling it doubling needs to stop because it's just plain stupid. Second, gamerscore means different things to different people so all those crying about people using gamersaves just need to get over it. Use it as a personal measure for yourself not as a statement of your gaming ability. I mean if you goto the xbox.com forums you have more cry baby whiners about gamerscore than anywhere and it's not stopping it. MS doesn't care and neither should you, get out of the house. /rant

Razer,

Doubling seems fairly self explanatory to me. You play the same game with two different region codes. You get double the points (or more, supposing you find more regions) for playing the same game twice.

Am I missing something?

#2, you hit the nail right on the head!! Listen, a gamer score means something different for everyone you plays the game. I have a hint under 20,000 and to me it does'nt mean I'll kick your a$$ in Halo 2 better than the next guy. I LOVE gaming, yes I work 40+ hour weeks but this is what I do in my spare time. Now as for the people who complain about not having a higher score, play some damn games and stop complaining!! I'm tired of the piss poor excuse " You have more money than me, You are rich and buy all the games, my p***y hurts" well RENT IF YOU CAN"T BUY!!!!!!! I play games for FUN not gamer score!!! Rant over!!!

somebody please explain to me, in what context does a high gamerscore mean anything?

back in the day when arcades were popular the high score on a machine meant you were the better player, with the gamerscore there's absolutely no correlation to skill it's just about how much time and money you've spent.

with it being so easy to pad your gamerscore it just makes it a meaningless number, they might as well let you log in to live and edit the number to whatever you feel like having.

Richard: You are correct. I thought I read that they referred gamesaving to the term "doubling". The fact that they are playing multiple region games to get the points twice makes perfect sense. Thats what I get for reading my favorite blog too early in the morning.

Is it wrong for me to still thing of my Gamerscore as a reward for doing certain tasks?

I look at my gamerscore as a badge of pride with certain games. Let me upfront for one moment - my gamerscore sucks. I haven't broken 3000 yet. But my gaming takes a backseat to my job and my social life. Perhaps if I spent more time gaming and less time with friends and such, I'd have a higher score.

But the achievements I have, I'm damn proud of. I worked hard to get the 500k achievement in Geometry Wars, and I'm still working hard to nail down that 1million achievement. When I get it, I'll have that permanent badge attached to my name, to prove that I am one of the elite that was able to break that barrier.

Achievements serve as goals for me, hurdles to overcome. There are achievements that I know I'll never get (top of the leaderboards in ANY game, for example), and some that I'm patiently working my way towards (I'm aiming for a perfect 200 GS in Doom). Selective maybe, but the goals and sense of achievement that comes with each one gives me a smile on my face everytime I hear that familiar tone.

get over it, psionstorm.

well there are a lot of different ways to look at the gamerscore. It's easy to see it as an arbitrary number, or ranking of how hardcore a gamer you are.

me? I see it as an accurate representation of who I am as a gamer. with a sparse low 2000 points, over 20 games played, most of which only have been partially completed (less than half achievement points reached)... I'm a casual gamer, cuz I just don't have time to spend hours a day, or my entire weekend playing.

Like I said, that's what it means *to me.* What it means to you is something different. What it means to someone with 20k+ points is "I am a cheater."

If you look at the number of games I've played compared with my gamerscore, it's very very similiar to yours. I haven't hit 20 games played, but most of my games only have a handful of achievements I've reached.
