Nielsen's Method is biggest load of crap created by man. Yet TV networks live by it and cancel good shows.

Much like #4's sentiment, Nielsen Ratings tend to be nothing more than raw numbers computed in haphazzard fashion. Yet TV and Radio networks consider's its numbers gold.

They're better off at having a room full of statiticians figure this stuff out, rather than Nielsen guys. They'll figure out a way to Magoo it up.

"Is this some kind of bust?"

Yes, it's very impressive.

And stop calling me Shirley.

The Neilsen ratings are the reason shows like Firefly and Arrested Development get sent to early graves while shows like Friends or Everybody loves Raymond stay on for a fucking decade. I guess 85 percent of all games will be Madden now.

I was a Nielson family last February during sweeps. I asked my friends what shows they wanted us to "watch" that week, so that they wouldn't get Firefly'd. I "had ten people over" to watch The Office that week.. wink wink. :) I believe statisticians call that the observer effect-- the person being studied acts differently to attempt to influence the findings of the study.

It was an interesting experience, I went into some more details on my blog (click the link on my name below to go to that post, if you're interested in reading).
