Also, The 360 controller has no problems with a weak signal, I've used mine from a different floor in the house before with no issues at all.

Just a blanket statement: Controllers are way too expensive.

Now that that's out of the way, I'd like to say that the Wiimote is looking like the one that's the better "bargain" out of the three (if you don't take the Nunchuk into account, which is possible in some cases).

It has motion sensing technology, pointing technology, rumble, wireless, built-in speaker, and apparently it has its own storage so that you can bring saves or information with you wherever you go. That's not bad for $40.

Of course, then you get price-gouged because you can't move your character around, but hey! I can swing a sword.

The Sixaxis and Xbox wireless controller are fighting for second and third place, in my opinion. The Sony controller has a rechargeable battery, but no rumble. The Xbox controller has no rechargeable batter, but has rumble (and in my opinion feels like a better controller). But $50 for both? I thought that over time the cost of technology was supposed to come down?

WHAT? $50 for a copycat controller? No paying R&D, just copying other's idea, use 10 years old molding, remove the rumble motor and charge consumers $50? Damn!

Horrible price. Still cheaper than 360, because MS charges you $12 extra for a rechargeable battery pack. $18 if you want a charge cable too.

Sony, you've let me down.

Note to those above, 3 years is a far more likely battery life than 18 months.

Wow, Self-ownage Sony. Had to cling to the extra $10 to sell the controller now, didn't you? Sony, as small it may seem, $10 could have made the price of the PS3 that much less intimidating.

Too expensive. Tilt sensors were included in Kirby's Tilt 'n' Tumble, a gameboy colour game! ....how expensive can this tech be. Like others have said, Sony are over pricing these accessories to make up for lost revenue on the PS3 base unit.

MS, Sony and Nintendo are all as bad as each other when it comes to pricing accessories.

The $300 dollar Xbox has less than a wireless controller, it also doesn't have a hdd. Plus you also need to spend 20 bucks to get the recharger/battery for the $50 wireless controller. As to your claim about the gimped PS3, what do you lose besides hdd space, wireless connectivity, and a card reader? It is a perfectly viable option, and is comparable to the $400 Xbox, which doesn't come with a card reader, has the same hdd space, and doesn't have wireless.

Cheers

There's no point in arguing ur point because there's always ignorant anboys out there to disagree with absolutely everything anyone has to say, pro or con PS3. My opionon, which is only for the reasonable people out there, is that the price of the controller for the 360, Wii, and PS3 are all overpriced, and no rumble sucks, but sony didnt really have a choice. Im still going to get a PS3, even with the $600 cost and $50 controllers. Just not anytime soon. And i do have a 360 which i think is pretty alright

let me get this right..

sony for a "basic package" which is still 100.00 more than a premium 360 has no wireless controller no "card reader for back compat. gaming and the same amount of storage space as a 360 hdd, so at 500.00 thats what you get? now a 360 for a premium you get a (wire-less controller) a 20 gig hdd,hd cables included and how is that not a better value at 400.00 #62.your "basic ps3 is slightly gimped....

and i agree with some others considering most of nintendos new system is in the remote not the console so at 60 for basically 75% of the new console 60.00 for 2 attatchments isnt bad at all but ms does have an insanely priced wireless remote welcome to next gen prices all

Eathan,

"wireless is not even, blutooth has a much farther range, and a much better reception."

I suppose if you think 30 feet over bluetooth (the actual range of bluetooth listed on their website, under *optimal* conditions, i.e. not real life) is more than the 40 feet over RF, then in your bizzare world, yes, bluetooth does have a better range.

Not to mention bluetooth has terrible penetration through walls, etc., while RF has great penetration.

While I realize signal penetration has nothing to do with the consoles since you don't play them behind walls, it simply shows that you have no clue what you're talking about and puts more holes in your credibility (if that's even possible, at this point).

I am not really worried about the rumble feature, I use a wavebird for my gamecube and have been happy with it. I am not really a huge fan of the motion control either. It still seems to me like an after thought. Also I don't like the triggers for the L2 and R2. They should have just kept the controller the same as the last two incarnations of it. I am a huge fan of sony but I think that someone was definitely slacking when it came down to controller design.

66. "Not to mention bluetooth has terrible penetration through walls"

omg, the kids these days'll argue about anything... guys, gals, and rodeo fans, THEY ARE *GAMING* CONSOLES! not to sound like a N fanboy (though I am), HD isn't necessary, ability for a controller to work through walls isn't necessary, and who's gonna be playing from 40+ feet away anyhow? where are you playing from, the back yard? (I guess I have a small house...)

That being said, I agree with everyone who says that the controllers are overpriced... I figured Sony would go cheaper with the controller, beings as how it is the same old design, minus rumble, plus some motion sensing stuff (Kirby's Tilt-n-Tumble was $20, if I remember correctly, and that was back in the 90's...)

I have a question, why 6 axises(or is it axes? axi? I don't know) last time I checked there were only 3 physical dimensions, can the ps3 move through the 3 dimensions of time as well? if so, well worth the $50...

non-replacable batteries... if they last 3-5 years, thats actually a good thing... "SUXASSES", funniest thing I've read all night... having to buy an attachment to use ps1,2 memory cards is just shameful, kinda like having to buy attachments in order to play with more than 2 players back in the 32/64-bit era

anyone else see the splitfish ps2 controller? I know Sony didn't do it, but still hilarious, especially that bulbous lazer thing on the right-handed side

HAHAHA! Yes! The Sixaxis controller's defects easily make the ps3 very suck. And in recent news I'm sure you people have heard about the disadvantages:
-It's super light- feels like it will fly right out of your hand
-Uncomfortable-nothing improved from previous models
-No vibration(old news)
-Rechargeable battery stops working after a point
-Is 50 bucks. 10 bucks less than a wiimote+nunchuck and is simply inferior to its nintendo counterpart.
Sony is already in massive losses and even if a lot of people want their system and are ready to pay a lot for it, they can't keep up with demand. And in previous generations, the initial console versions break after like 2 years. My NES is still in working order.

The PS3 is backward compatible without an adaptor, that adaptor is only if you need to copy saved game progress or profiles from your PS2 memory cards on to the PS3... Which is something Microsoft didn't even offer us, so stop grasping for straws.

ALL THREE companies are charging a lot for controllers. This PS3 controller is same price as the 360 controller, and less than a comperable Wii set-up (for FPS like Metroid, etc.)

Jin, are you talking about controllers or systems? my launch PS2 still runs, while both my Xbox and 360 have needed repairs. Either way, you simply sound like a 12-year old hater with no real facts other than 'no vibration.' Since when is a 'light controller' bad other than you read that on a little fansite and wanted to type it yourself? Have you even played a Wii? I just played one again tonight and the graphics are still 'NES working order.' Awesome controller and system, stunted by NIntendo themselves by shying away from more power.

Anyway...

Fuck, you guys suck. This is the most awesome year for gamers ever, 3 new amazing systems in one year and HD online gaming, with incredible games coming for all platforms... Settle down and stop acting like Sony or Microsoft pays you to defend them in the forums...

Ppl bashing the ps3 needs to stop, as well as ppl defending the ps3. The system is not out yet. what ever you ppl say about this sucks that rocks is all based on what other ppl said. Has any of you actually saw a "disc read error" while you were playing a ps3? has any of you used a ps3 controller for more than 2 yrs to complain about the batt? Same goes for ps3 fanboys, how can you saw how good something is just based on stats on paper? I mean sony did recall laptop batt, so anything can happen. So you all should just wait until the system launches before you go at eachother.

Did 50 bucks really surprise anyone?

Sony probably looked at the available figures for 360 wireless controllers, and said "Yeah, we can get away with charging that". Besides, they didn't have much of a choice. Certainly can't come in over with the price (vs 360), because it has the same amount of big "features" (rumble, wireless, motion sensing). If it cost less than the 360 controller, then aside from the obvious smaller profits, its lower cost vs. its competition and low weight may lead some to believe it's cheap.

I think weight of a controller is actually important to an uninformed user.

For example, if I were to have a buddy over and he'd pick up the PS3 controller, he'd immediately associate its light-weight with poor build quality. Now, informed (or, as close as you can get around here) gamers know that it isn't low quality, but the general public wouldn't know that.. which can hurt Sony at the demo kiosk. (which is where the uninformed consumers make their decisions)

Out of the 3, I'd say the Wii is the higher "value". But really, I'm not buying a console for measurable monetary worth. I want a console for the games, and I want the games because I want to have fun.. and you can't put a cash value on that.

And yet you use a gimped XBox, which is even more gimped than the PS3 gimped, to compare with the PS3 ultimate. At least I have the rational to compare apples to apples. And besides, the PS3 core is still wireless, and has a HD, and has blu-ray playback (HD-DVD sold seperately for XBox 360)

Fact is, Wii + XBox 360 WILL cost more than a PS3, and unless you can show how the gimped XBox 360 is in any way comparable with the gimped PS3, let alone the PS3 ultimate, don't try to factor the core 360 into the equation.

How could he possibly understand that the standard PS3 is actually a PS3? Some things are just too difficult to teach.

360us Maximus:

I think you've got your Bluetooth mixed up. It's not IR. It uses radio signals. Just like wireless internet except the signal isn't as strong. It's not as strong because it's designed to use less power. It's also called IEEE 802.15.1, in case you weren't aware. And it most definitely is becoming the wireless standard for small devices.

As for the lack of rumble in the Sixaxis. I'll probably miss it at first, but I only think I will because it will take me a while to stop expecting to feel a rumble because I've grown accustomed to it. I'm sure I'll get used to it though. I do a lot of gaming on PC so I guess I'm used to it.

And why does everyone keep saying that no rumble will suck like they are enjoying some completely euphoric out of body experience. Rumble in a console controller is NOT the crème de la crème of any sort of vibration feedback. Companies like Logitech, Microsoft and Saitek have been making force feedback joysticks for years for the PC. The experience is head and shoulders above any rumble technology of a console controller. So please, stop acting all high and mighty because your next-gen console has two little motors in it.
