This is why you buy from Costco, and swap it out if it breaks.

You can sometimes even keep the hard drive from your current 360, if you ask nicely.

Yea mine died on Oct. 8th... went to Best Buy soon enough (where I had their 2 year warranty) and they gave me a new one and let me keep my HDD.
Now I feel all better

Do u still have to pay shipping if you have the extended warranty? Their support options are not well documented at all...

I sent my Xbox360 in for repair last week and MS paid for all my shipping. When I called the repair center I told them "I think my Xbox360 is overheating. It's from 2005 and it runs sluggishly maybe even freezes." They responded this was a known issue and they would send me a box right away. 3 day UPS Select box for to and from MS.

I also sent my xbox360 in last week to be repaired(red ring of death)and they said the shipping and repairs were free. This must be a very new policy.

Well, my box just went tits up (red ring of death) so I hope I don't have to pay shipping. Considering I live literally across the street from Microsoft, maybe I could just walk it over...

I just got mine back a week.5 ago due to the fabled Ring of Death, and everything was paid for. My only detriment was that Purolator screwed things up. Took almost 2 weeks to ship to and from a repair center that's a half-hour away from my house. My 360's from 2005.

My 360 suffered the three red lights of death just two days ago, phoned microsoft support the next day and UPS came and picked up the console today. Didn't have to pay a thing, so, so far so good. I'll keep you posted if it all goes horribly wrong before i get my 360 back! I live in the UK so maybe the policy if different here.

I purchased my Xbox 360 through a deal on Overstock.com. Ripped the box open, plugged it in, and immediatly had a Hard Drive failure (one red quadrant in the lower right). I spoke to the support people, and they said they couldn't process any warranty returns on the Hard Drives right now because of system update, and to call back within 48 hours. The tech support guy assured me that the shipping would be completely free on the replacement Hard Drive.

The only game I have, right now, is Halo 2, and I can't even play that.

In regards to the first comment. Be careful with Costco. They have a awesome return policy but there is a catch. They have a generic 30 day return policy (excluding laptops and computers which are 6 months and the fact that 30 days is just a set amount they came up with). And you have to return the item in a "reasonable amount of time" give or take. You can't return your 360 when the 720 comes out so to say. Also, they take into account how long you have been a member, how much you've spent, how many things you have returned in the past, and sometimes it varies from manager to manager working when you return a item. I bought mine from Costco but it was a April 06 model and I bought the 2 year MS warranty.

This is very much true. I got my XBOX360 broken after playing Splinter Cell Double Agent Demo...it never froze on me, but after freezing in the demo it started freezing on every single game on the first 3 mins of play.
Called MS and the manager said I would have to pay for shipping due to policy change...told him this is my second XBOX360 replacement already in less than 3 months, so he said they would pay this time.
WTF is wrong with these XBOX360s? For the love of God. How many 360s will I have to replace to get one that really works?

I am never buying a new console ever again in the first year it is released. EVER!

I just got my console back from Microsoft and I did not get charged anything for shipping. They paid it all; I got it back on Monday, the 16th. They replaced mine instead of repairing it. My original was a 10/05 manufacturing date and the one I got was a 3/06 manufacturing date.

Im with number 11 on this, my first one died about sometime im june, from then on, everytime i got a new machine they were faulty. Im on my fourth machine and it gave me some failures (at one time or another) but im keeping it.. for now.. it's working not like my others that were DOA.. I asked a supervisor how come if the refurbished ones are tested PRIOR to leaving the plant, why would they be DOA? He really couldnt come up with an answer on this. Typically im a calm guy with this, and they were helpful, but really, what is up with the machines?! Seriously, i literally GAVE UP giving back faulty machines.. Until this last one REALLY craps out on me then i'll return it.. It's like playing Russian Roulette, but the gun is entirely loaded..

I had mine crap out early last week, called customer support, got a box and free ups shipping, sent it out thursday, and got a replacement (with a 2006 manufacture date) today. Pretty good turnaround considering it's 3 days shipping each way. Has anyone had any problems with the new ones or is it all just refurbished 05's that break repeatedly?

To the guy who asked if you have to pay for shipping if you have an extended warranty. You better not, otherwise Microsoft is in violation of a contract that both parties agreed to. In the extended warranty/contract it specifically states Microsoft is reponsible to pay shipping both ways for the console and/or any accessories that came with the machine when it is determined a repair is needed. If they try to change that, notify them you will be contacting the better business bureau and your attorney general, as what they are doing is illegal - you paid for an extended warranty with the specific warranties implied, they cannot change that later down the road without both parties agreeing or giving you a pro-rated refund.
I suspect if there is any charge, it is for those that are under the 90 day warranty, not extended warranty.
