Seems much better than 360 since it lets you decide what format and bitrate you want to rip the CD in and takes less time to rip as well (Watch the UI video on gamespot).

I totally forgot about that weird little guy from those old Sony commercials.

They should really bring him back for the PS3 ads.

Yeah, but I rather stream my stuff from my PC because who wants to copy all of your music and picture over to a 20/60GB HDD?

The stupid 360 doesn't allow you to copy MP3s to the HD.

PhillyRampage @8: "who wants to copy all of your music and picture over to a 20/60GB HDD?"
The 360 owners sure don't, with only 20Gb space for U$99.
On PS3 I can buy a 200Gb SATA HD for the same cost and replace the one on PS3 (doesn't need to be a M$$$$$co$tAlotmore)

Skip that junk and use some form of lossless! APE, FLAC, etc, etc.

Is the music copying a two way thing? THe main reason Xbox doesn't suport copying music from another source to the hard drive is that they don't want the 360 seen as a furthering music piracy. I would be very surprised to see Sony, master of really nasty unworkable DRM, have an open system that allows ripping and copying.

@idiot 360

So what are you going to do, you're going to keep a library in your PC AND PS3? When you get a CD or download them (legally or illegally) , are you going to import them to both? Or if you just want to keep one library, lets say your PS3, because it so damn sexy, are you going to go back and forth copying new stuff to your PS3? How about if you want to edit your songs, pictures or album art? Wouldnt that be fun with SIXAXIS.

But hey, that's your preference, my preference is to keep all of stuff in my PC because I can edit them easily and if i want to add/remove, is just easier on a PC rather than a console. Simple as that. You don't have to argue with me on it. Peace.

Hey Joystiq guys
I noticed in your coverage you didn't have anything about this, so I thought I'd point it out to you and give you a chance to disprove all of the MS bias talk about this site. I'm sure you just overlooked it, and you're not just refraining from any negative Xbox coverage. I'm not trying to sound like a fanboy, just want to make sure you give equal time to your negative remarks. Cheers!

Microsoft Runs Damage Control on Lumines

Lumines Live has turned into a marketing disaster for Microsoft. We knew the game was a testing ground for the microtransactions movement, but when the company's own employees are admitting they weren't clear about what "full version" meant when purchasing Lumines Live, the response should be: !
Has Microsoft essentially admitted to pulling the wool over gamers' eyes?

"There will be future content you can choose to buy. Just like other games with downloadable content, you can choose what you might enjoy the most, or stick with the base game." While technically true, no Xbox Live Arcade game has taken this approach, and distributing a press release to media outlets and tossing a description on Xbox.com does not make this message clear. Nowhere on XBL itself can gamers read a description of what Lumines Live's "Base Pack" does not include.

And it makes sense that Lumines Live would have expansion content, the game's designed for it, but Microsoft has rightfully come under fire for the VS CPU mode, where, despite contributing $14.99 to Microsoft's bank account, you're only allowed access to one stage. Microsoft has two recommendations for those upset: simply don't buy it or play online versus because "the rules are the same." How does this explain paying to experience content that isn't there?

Don't care about ripping music or storing pics on my console.
Just keep everything on your PC and stream it to your box.
PS3 probably won't do that.

Keeping everything on my PC allows for way more space. + I can edit them and do playlist so easily and stream my playlist to the 360. + I can stream movies to my TV or videos that i record. (ppv's, old vcr copys that i turned to mpegs + a collection of alot of stuff). So my question is can anyone refer me to where can i read about streaming music and movies to the PS3. To me that is a great feature cause i have a couple of servers for different things and streaming from my computer to my onkyo receiver is a must for me now.

Ahh now we will be able to have A rootkit that works! Hello DRM! Reading these post make me wonder how I got all that music on my 360? So you see a CD ripping fast. What size is the cd compared to the one your ripping to the 360? You do know the 360
Has a faster drive than the PS3 right? I need my ATRAC because it is proprietary. No one uses it except Sony! Will I need two sets of batteries for this? One to make it
work, and one to keep the settings instead of using permanent memory for the settings.
I hope I will not have to send the system back for service once the DRM kicks in as a ‘exchange program’. I love exchange programs because they ALWAYS end up costing you money!

Yes, I for one, am going to duplicate my mp3 library onto my PS3. Why? I will have my music in my living room, through my surround sound with a visualizer on my TV. The thing that I am more excited about though is the locationfree service that you can have with the PS3/PSP connectivity. I can go to any hotspot anywhere and access any media on my PS3 remotely and change my library. My iPod can't quite keep up with that yet. I do have a 2GB memorystick in my PSP, about 1 gig set aside for music, and if it gets stale, I know I can switch it up anywhere I want. I also have a Panera next to my work, and I can steal free wifi on break and show off any new videos on my PSP from my PS3, which will be sweet.

also, that little "sixaxis!" jab is invalid, because PS3 supports keyboard and mouse, which I already have. So...?

Here's one for you--album art or not, the PS3 will NEVER play playsforsure content. It's actually kind of nice being able to play music from online services on my Xbox 360. The PS3 will only ever do Sony purchased music. That means if you want to be able to take your music from your PS3 on the road, you've got to buy a Sony player, and you've only got access to what Sony Connect lets you buy. It won't play FairPlay songs either--Apple's not about to cut off their golden goose by selling it to Sony.

So what you've got is a cheap blu-ray player that will play pretty much the same games that the Xbox 360 does. I think there were what, 3 exclusive titles on the LAUNCH LIST? OOOH!! I could play oblivion again!! OOOH!! MADDEN! Oh wait. I already have both of those. I don't have to wait another month to wait outside of a freezing ass store to buy an overpriced console that won't connect to my computer, has a bullshit online service, and will leave me at least $500 poorer (almost $600 if I get a game and second controller).

Oh, and on Sony's "we'll replace your controller" comment. If the battery in my Xbox 360 controller changes, I can put it in the charger. Failing that, I can put double A batteries in it. No matter what happens, I'll never be left in a situation where I'm waiting for a corporation halfway across the planet to return a controller to me. Four to six hours charging is much better than four to six weeks.

@ 25-

Sorry that you buy DRM'd music, you should complain to apple and whatever other services you buy your music from by making them proprietary, rather than bitching at Sony for not supporting them. Granted, both are somewhat at fault, but... let the buyer beware. I don't buy music off iTunes or other services like Napster because they won't let me put it on everything that I want. I don't fully own the music. If I ever DO buy something from them, I quickly reconvert it over to standard mp3 so I don't have to deal with DRM BS.

As far as your complaint about ports, same to you. My PS3 will play basically the same games as your 360 (or mine) but in higher resolution, with graphical tweaks, or extra content (at least for now since it does have a year more time to add these things). Although, if you like Madden and FPS games, don't go with Sony, they tailor to different tastes you probably don't like anyways.

With the controller, at least they learned something from apple's mistake with their iPod battery fiasco, and probably something from their own battery recall. If you have a battery sealed in, you must offer a way to fix it. Besides, the li-on batteries have a reduced memory retention for the cells, so they'll last way way longer. Supposedly about 10 years and they should still be kickin' and playable. They're supposed to last about 30 hours on a charge (..on paper, real world probably about 20-25?) but still, even half that at the end of 5 years at 10 hours per charge should be plenty for me.

Besides, 3 years later, should my battery die on me and replacing it through Sony would be a pain, I feel I am competent enough to unscrew a controller and replace an internal battery. I guess you're too inept to accomplish such a feat, but that's what fanboys do best: act like idiots to prove their points.
