Don't bother tonight, see Gamestop's Gears video here
Select Gamestop stores are hosting a special Gear of War event tonight after closing up shop. Why didn't we tell you about this earlier? There are two reasons. First, they're only showing video of the game, it won't be playable -- yes, we're excited about it ... but not that excited. Second, the giveaways are pretty weak: lanyards and pins. Where's the free shirts or -- even better -- demo discs? Really, exclusive video content? Isn't this what Xbox Live was made for?
Since we're loathe to recommend that you run down to your local Gamestop on a Saturday night to crowd in and watch video of a game you've undoubtedly pre-ordered and will be playing in a couple weeks, we're extremely pleased to present you with ... the very same video footage they'll be showing tonight! So, unless you have a real hankering for those lanyards and pins, and an absolute void where your social life should be, we think you oughta skip Gamestop tonight and start practicing for playing Gears.
Video is embedded after the break, in two parts. One of the exclusive footage and the other is a clip of CliffyB telling folks they won't find that exclusive footage on the internet ... you mean, this internet?

Sometimes you drop some "realism" to make the game funner. Like why don't the enemies in Splinter Cell see Sam's goggles. If the characters all wore helmets, nothing would distinguish them from one another besides the voices. And that's boring.

I have the actual dvd this video comes on, its alot nicer looking than these, i also got all the freebie stuff all ready, the dog tag is pretty high quality and i like it. also go the stupid little pin, the slip to dl exclusive gamer pics and themes (which don't work yet) and i also got the gears face plate

lol, I'm sorry but GOW and Resistance are two VERY different games by two VERY good developers. I don't see the need to squat and crap on either, especially since we have not played them. BTW Resistance's firefights involve many more enemies and human fighters, plus vehicles, and up to 40 players online. If anything I'd say Resistance makes Halo 2 look like... well, like crap.

game looks great. Dialogue and "acting" are cringe-inducing. I also like how every guy is 6'7" and built like a truck.
I'll still buy it though.

Surprisingly dull... I guess it's more fun when you're playing.
Plus, I hated the way that the game is all about cover yet every time Marcus goes through a door he's just walking, the camera is straight ahead and doesn't check out the sides for an ambush. I hope it's because the guy playing knew where the enemies were coming from and not a lack of camera control.
Yeah, I think after that I'm more excited by the multiplayer. If it's half as good as UT2004 it'll be the best multiplayer game this year.

The graphics look gorgeous, but the gameplay looks like crap. It's just run, stop, pop, repeat.

The enemies have no AI! If 1 guy can run through without using proper team tactics, and they don't flank or react or do anything other than duck and stand and duck and stand, why should I want to play this, when we've already got FEAR?

I was wondering whether light still played a pivotal role in this game. I remember when it was first announced, they said that the player needs to stick to lighted areas, and even develope strategies (like lighting things on fire) to get from one place to another, or else they'd be torn to shreds or something...has that aspect been completely removed? I was kinda looking foward to that...

My was that very unappeasing... i was expecting to see this super-amazing game i've been hearing about...
And people asked me why i said that some people are going to be upset when they finally get this game.
Its as overhyped as Halo2 was!
The control-scheme so far looks like it would piss me off majorly in about 10 minutes of playing.
The AI looks terrible so far (if you could call it AI!)
The "fairness" is a little off, these enemies are taking a few hits and die, yet you take a few of the same hits and you are still going strong! WAY HAY!
The voice acting, been mentioned by others enoug.
The graphics sure do look nice, but so far thats all it has going for it...
Best part is the kind of blurring when going up steps.
The camera angle looks to be annoying though.
This is a let-down... one game off the list now.

AI is on Casual Mode (Easy) , there is also Hardcore and Insane Difficulty , do you really think that they would record the video on Insane? , youre crazy they would take longer to finish recording the game demonstration video.

Jon that concept is still in the game , not every enemy is afraid of light , the Locust have more than one enemy is some sort of vampire creatures , you must fight them also. they are afraid of light.

Gears of War has been so hyped up I think it is going let down quite a few gamers as they have been marketing it like it is the best game ever...
Best game for Xbox 360, probably, but then again, this is like the third decent game for the system and it has been out for a year which is pretty weak.

whats up with the guy at the very beginning in the heli wearing killzone goggles that are blue? is this a straight rip-off from killswitch and killzone now? And I like how everyone has 6 inch thick armor, yet everytime they get hit blood flies all over the place but for some reason they never die. This seriously looks like it could have been made by a 12 year old, although cliffy b isnt far from that, is he?
