Well to make a long story short, it sounds as if Ps3 load times are going to be an issue this generation. Thank you Blue-Ray for all the space. The so called OPTION is there for a reason. (reason being, blue-ray)

Another note, some to the top gun games this quarter are on multi-platform. How is that possible with the uber powerful Loadstation.

ttr, if it's so useless all the games on PC are just as useless I suppose. Trully an ignorant and childish response.

cloud999, first off you have no proof (real world comparison) that the bluray drive on the PS3 is any any slower or significantly slower than the current next-gen consoles out there. As for the HDD dying out utter non-sense, but lets assume it does, you can always buy a seagate HDD and have a 5 yrs manufacturing warranty.

As for the controllers I do think there may be some issues with not making them replacable, but could easily be fixed in future revisions if it does become an issue.

Since I love playing games all my life, I'm not expecting perfection out of these next generation consoles just advancements. My 360's HDD (which is why i tried to upgrade it) and Powersupply both died out after 3 months of owning the machine, but I understand there may be issues in these consoles just like every new system. This is why I will also give Sony's PS3 the benefit of the doubt concerning their console. People just need to relax because at the end of the day it's still only a game system. sssheesssh.

"In Genji there is real time weapon changes. but what is real time weapon changeing? can you switch weapons mid-strike? or do you have to finish a strike before changeing?"

Sorry, but this is not true. To get it to run in 1080p they had to drop this feature, and now they load the new weapon off the cache in between levels. That's why all Xbox 360 games have only one weapon per game. It doesn't have a harddrive built in.

Next we know, the PSP will have a HDD add-on so it can decrease its load times. That's the solution to everyone's load time woes!

Actually, the PSP already does have a hard drive...

Jeez, so many polarized viewpoints.

I actually think this is both a GOOD idea AND a BAD idea.

The reasons why its good:
-Its an OPTION. It is not required, so therefore you don't feel completely raped if you intend on purchasing the lower priced model.
-It reduces load times, which can be a real bitch and interrupt fun gameplay.

The reasons why its bad:
-Its 4 freaking gig! Whats with all that space? I could imagine, maybe, with a game like Resistance which supposedly is using 15+ gigs of space for an install to be 4 gig, but Genji? Come on now. I think 4 gig is waaaaay to much for a 20 gig harddrive. Even if, so far, only one game supports it.
-If more games down the line use this method as an excuse, your harddrive will soon be filled with game data just for the purposes of reducing load times.

Personally, I HATE load times. The only thing that urks me more than load times in video games are cut scenes that cannot be skipped (this is why I loathe SCIII). But to expend 4 gigs of space just to reduce load times by 2/3 I think is a bit much. I applaud the attempt, but scold the result. If this method can be done more effeciently I think it would be a good advantage for PS3.

There are certainly good and bad sides to this option, but to claim it be a boon on PS3 or conversely to claim it to be a curse I believe is completely absurd, especially since thus far only a single game is using it.

I especially enjoyed the post about this being a 'slippery slope.' The slippery slope theory is a fallacy of an argument. Simply because something *may* happen does not, by any means, suggest that it will.

guys what the big deal here?? ok first its an option, you can use it if u want to. Its put in by the the devs NOT sony... You dicide if you want to use your HD for it not sony or MS(as you will be seeing the same for the 360, just watch)

On the whole PS3 is turning into a PC part, yup it sure is, like it or not. what do u think the xbox(and 360) is? Its a midea PC the was desinged useing alot of off the shelf parts (much less in the 360) to play games (amoung lots of other things)with a windows OS on the living room tv. Now we are just seeing desingers apply themselfs the bring the most options to the masses(the most bang for the buck) and make lots of $$$$ doing it. and sony is just now playing catch up. And im not going to get into using MCE with the 360

And another thought, how many of us had to get a new/replace a PS2 BECAUSE of the drive lens failing? I know I have. It would be alot less stress on the BR dirve,we dont know how mouch of a pice of shit it is yet...

I have a 360 and if i was given the OPTION to use the HD i would. And if i didnt like/didnt play the game it can be REMOVED.

ok flame on...

Ok Ok Big bird BUT if the blue ray drive was an Option, there would be no need worry about extended load times.

It did mean incomplete games which require patches to be functional! At least for Microsoft it did.
I can't even count all the "Updates" aka Patches my XBox and my 360 have downloaded. Many of them were Necessary.

Whenever Microsoft is involved you are NOT Console gaming... You are PC gaming... and I did not like buggy gaming when I used to PC Game, I am not liking it now on my consoles.

Goodbye Microsoft, Hello PS3.
My XBox and My 360 will be on ebay Soon! Never again to return to the half-a$5ed world of Microsoft.

Better Testing Cycles, Better Backwards Compatibility are the Key.
