"We are disappointed that Universal and Fox wanted to significantly renegotiate the financial points of the deal."

Yeah, because the studios wanted to make monies?

Heres the deal:

- 5 million upfront to MS
- 150+ million to finance the entire cost of the movie (ie. no monies from MS at all)
- 50+ million to promote it
- artsy-fartsy director with no features under his belt
- no rights to sequels
- 10% of profits to MS
- n% goes to Peter "suing NewLine for 100 million" Jackson
- no video game tie in
- limited merchanidising opportunities (its already been done by MS/Bungie)
- no creative control (what works for video games dont work for movies... like having a main character who never takes his helmet off)

- whatever is left devide it among Fox and Universal

All the financial risk is borne on the studios with MS sitting back and winning no matter how the movie goes.

The studios knew that MS would not go back on their contract; and so, the negotiations were a farce: basically, Univseral and Fox told MS to f*ck off.

Good luck on getting another studio to sign on to those terms.

Sounds like MS/Peter Jackson may actually be in line to make the first ever videogame movie that doesn't suck beyond all belief. Wait, bigger than that, they may actually make the first action movie that was not shit-terrible in at least half a decade.

well then bob MS should post up the money then.

AS much as i love video games, if i were a hollywood exec i wouldn't take that deal at all. if the movie flops, I TAKE The brunt, and if it doesn't i dont have any right to it and i was the one that posted all the money.

Its a no win situation really and even though some crap hollywood pushes out sucks, i agree with fox on this one.

"- no creative control"

Thanks God! Otherwise we'd have the movie give us some stupid explanation for something that will be revealed in the last half of the movie as a "twist" to the plot. Who cares if it doesn't make sense in the Halo universe? They need to make money on this and knowing nothing about the current universe of the game, they already know how to make it better!
