Oh but it's HD super shiny graphics so I guess it can get away with it. >.>

Nah i mean the cool weapons that are in the game, like the needle grenade thing, the gun that shoots through walls and bring up an energy shield on alt fire, the sniper rifle that slows time, the tracer rounds etc, they are cool weapons that should add something more then just run and gun gameplay.

There's nothing new about slow-motion in games, wether it's with a sniper rifle or not. Red Faction had a gun that could shoot through walls. Timesplitters 2 had a gun that had an energy shield on the front of it. (i think....if it wasn't TS2 it was some other shooter)

What's so great about resistance again? oh yeah...the graphics.

Hey, I have a gripe about this game. Has anyone noticed the lack of special effects on the projectiles? The explosions from projectiles are really mediocor, they dont really explode....just some steam comes out...like the grenades. The game really lacking dynamic special effects on things...destructable or semi-destructable enviornments, etc. (check out Lost Planet, GRAW, COD2 for special effects on projectiles and explotions etc)

I am not a big Halo fan, but i am a big GRAW/Rainbow Six fan.

I actually believe the game will be very good and have some fun to it. However, I also believe it will be ultimately disposable, just a thing to play until you get something better (HL2+HL2E1+HL2E2+TF2+Portal or even CoD3).

It looks like a competent shooter, just not a fantastic one.

Okay I have had enuff.

I know there are loads of dumb xbox fanboys who love trolling on a game that they have already made the decision they do not like but for what its worth it needs to be said

1. There is NO single game that can warrant the purchase of your console, so if you are looking for a game that warrants a 600 dollar price it dosent exsist.
Unless your foolish, if you own a 360 youd know that you didnt buy it for one game. So stop using that as an argument.

2. If you REALLY, you know honestly do care about the game, and just want more information then the best thing to do is listen to the recent 1up podcast were they interview Ted Price the CEO of insomiac were he gives a full run down of whats in teh game and what they have added. He also responds to 'critiscims' about how the game is called either "another ww2 game, this time more retarded" or "halo clone"

3. This will be a good game, even this reveiew from joystiq which are not always the kindest to sony does state aspects he likes, bare in mind he only played one level it bares well for the game.

4. This game has many unique weapons, many that have not been done in games before, again, if you want to know more just listen to the podcast, its not our jobs to inform you about a game that you have already decided to critisize.

Jesus, sometimes joystiq comementers are the most mindless, rabid, crtisizing bunch, you would actually think any of the were developers, or at last have a job. You dont like the game, go sit in your basement waiting for halo3 .WE DONT CARE.

And please do not take this as "sony fanboy" I simply said what needs to be said. If you want to play me on GRAW on 360 my gamertag is Roadside G.

yea what "I cant belive it" said, it doesnt matter what kind of new FPS is on the PS3, because just the fact that its on the PS3 most of these joystiq commentors will hate it, which is plain stupid I wonder what would happen if halo was on the ps3 would u hate it then or justify it.

Then comes the Gears of war garbage, with comments like its so better than this. well first off its really not a FPS its more a combination between Resident evil 4 and killswitch with the over the shoulder gameplay, so you cant even compare the two.

So if you got a xbox 360 and like it then just play it and dont downgrade any other game like your still in the 1st grade. I own a 360 (gamertag: regula oblique) and will be buying a ps3 on launch so enough with the stupidness.

Yea hit me up on g.r.a.w also so me and I cant belive it can POP you.

Well, this game looks pretty good in my opinion. I won't buy a PS3 just because I pretty much don't ever buy anything Sony makes except for their digital cameras and boom-boxes. I'm at the point where first person shooters aren't as interesting to me after playing GRAW as they used to be. That's one reason to be excited about GOW -- it uses a 3rd person view. COD3 is still on my buy list though.

Even so, Fall of Man looks good for a PS3 offering and I'm sure I'd like it if I played it.

ya i see the lack in it in some areas yes.... i think something like teh grenaddes in this game make up for it though... ie: the hedgehog gernade with its spikes everywhere, is just an awesome weapon in its detonation... and also the air fuel grenade is cool, the weapons may not have all the exact effects you are wanting but they provide plenty of their own and somewhat new effects.

one thing i am concerned is that in the ps2, i couldn't stand the fps mainly because the ps2 controller was not well suited for fps's with it's placement of the analog sticks. regardless of one's taste for sony, ms, or nintendo, i consider myself console neutral, i think the xbox s and now the 360 controller is the best console controller for fps's. with the ps3 controller keeping the anaolg sticks in the same position as the ps2, i don't think that i would have fun with any game no matter how visually appealing when i feel the controls are lacking.

It's no killer app, but it looks like a competant FPS. That's a key to any console launch... a handful of above-average games and one must-have title. This ain't the must-have, but it should please folks that pick up a PS3.

I'll give them credit over at Insomniac, they are confident as hell about their game. Just seeing how much they're showing it off makes me a little interested in their shooter, although still not interested in the PS3. My only real gripe with the game is that it doesn't seem like enough of a graphical jump to justify the power of the system. I know this is nit-picking but the ground textures look like crap. I mean if there's one thing that should look real as hell because it's what takes up the most space on level. I really don't care for the innovations in the guns department, because I do enjoy a bit of realism. If this was a few years after WW2, how in the hell did they develop this kind of stuff? Again, nit-picking but I'm entitled to it.

GOW is good, but it has it's own flaws, you cant compare it to this. GOW is a futuristic moster shooter, this is a olden time FPS.

Not that most PS3 ppl care about FPS like Xbox fans do, its all about MGS4 :) That will own, but this is enough to keep us going for a launch title.

@35

Actually most of the system's power is used, not in graphics, but in gameplay, which is how it should be. Insomniac uses the power of the Cell processor to have enormous dynamic battles going on around the player, immersing them in the environment. And yes they are actually running AI's for all the creatures you see. Almost none of it (except Heroic Moments) is prescripted. Also, the way they have these guns is that the monsters they are fighting are aliens, and that is some of the alien tech, so it is realistic (kinda). The alt-history is actually really cool. Check out the official website for more info, but let me just say, I'm a history major and I think it's a brilliant theory (basically what happens to the world if aliens help keep the Russian Czar in power during WWI).

To all of you people that say one game doesn't warrant a $600 purchase, you must be too young for the arcades. I remember spending a jillion dollars in the arcade, and that was before games cost a dollar or more and were still a quarter or 50 cents. I wanted a PS3 before all of the smear tactics and announced launch line up. I will most likely still get one. But I will have to wait until after launch to play something that interests me enough to make the purchase. I hope R:FoM is enjoyable, but that remains to be seen. And no, I don't need a pulitzer prize winning story, or siezure inducing graphics -- I want fun gameplay that 6 months from now won't be old.

With the exception of the Xboxen, all consoles have always launched with a mascot-based adventure or platform game. Super Mario, Sonic, Jak & Dexter, etc. Since the day I heard about Resistance, I've been suprised and saddened that the PS3 is violating this old tradition and focusing on an eye-candy based FPS to impress the 360 crowd instead.

Instead of a new Ratchet and Clank style game, Insomniac is wasting time on an FPS. Instead of a new game that blows away Jak & Dexter like J&D blew away Crash Bandicoot, Naughty Dog is wasting time on some realistic looking jungle adventure island game.

From what I've seen of announced PS3 games, most games are trying to sell on graphics and HD content alone. While such feature are fantastic, they alone don't make a game.

I'll certainly buy a PS3 the day Final Fantasy 13 comes out; just like I purchased the PS2 because of FF10, and the PSX because of FF7. Still, the PS2 had many other games which I ended up buying, and enjoying greating. It was worth it for FF10, but the other games were a nice addition; and really made the PS2 a great console. I'm simply not seeing that with the PS3.

Back at you 34:
Who said anything about GOW? I didn't mention GEARS but since you brought it up...I'm talking about creativity here folks. Keep in mind that GEARS was developed on an OLD engine (UT) and thanks to creative developers, it still presents new gameplay that's pushing things FORWARD, but don't take my word for it. Ask around.

Hell, even Prey looks better than this yuckfest, but I'm sure the PS3 will offer TONS of creative games filled with japanese kids shooting lighting bolts out from under their schoolgirl uniform skirts for all the "hardcore" gamers out there.

Anyone who's played the Ratchet and Clank games will know Insomniac can craft a very enjoyable game.

I bought an XBox purely for Halo, my PS3 and 360 will be for a whole load of different games.

Could this be the Duke Nukem 3d to Gear's Quake?

(I was a big fan of DN3D, and hated quake. It was really funny watching the quake fanboys turn their resolution all the way up as I pwned them with my low framerate. Duke looked better and ran better, imho)

I'm no fan of the football player-esque character designs of games like Gears. The game looks like it plays like a football game as well. That's fine, probably great for some people, but it's usually not what I want in my FPSs. Well, I like my FPSs on PC, so I'm baised here anyway. Resistance looks more interesting to me than Gears, but my chances of getting a PS3 in the next year or two is looow.

The best FPS I've ever played and still play is TimeSplitters 3 for my GameCube. It has a craptastic storyline, no online play what-so-ever and the bots are idiots at times.

But it's still fun as hell to play with bots or with friends.

If this game is fun with friends then I probably won't even play the storyline unless I have to in order to unlock multiplayer stuff.

I just hope it's not like Halo where there are only two character models to choose from and a limited amount of guns (TS3 has over 150 characters and 30+ guns)

As long as this game is FUN with others then I will be happy. FUN is the reason I'm buying a Wii, after all.
