Come on, $60 for a FREE multiplayer game? Not nearly as many people are going to buy it for the single player. Fourty would be a little much. The game retails now for thirty.

i'm glad i'm an adult now and have a good job because this is going to be an expensive holiday to be a gamer. back when i was younger, my father would definitely not pay $300+ to buy me a system and then $60/game. i feel bad for some of the younger kids that don't have rich parents and won't be able to play some of this cool next-gen stuff

Played it already on PC a year ago so I'll be spending my money on, you know, new games like Gears of War, Rainbow Six Vegas & COD3. At least when Half Life 2 gets ported to 360 it'll have extra shit that's actually worth $60.

Agreed. I'm sure that hiring a separate studio to handle the conversion duties is driving some of the economics here, but this just isn't going to sell at $60.

Not when games like Rainbow Six Vegas, Gears of War, and Call of Duty 3 ship a week later.

Didn't Sierra buy out FEAR in order to cash in and the actual people that made it still own the right to make new stuff but without the name?

This is a definate DO NOT BUY money sucking game.

While I enjoyed the demo of FEAR(and like the idea of a survival horror/FPS hybrid), Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas are a much better investment of $60.

I'll pick this one up when it hits $30.

The price doesn't bother me, but it could be the kinda game you thought you were going to buy and then you don't. It's a wildcard pick. With CoD3, GoW and a good looking wrestling game in the pipe before the end of the year, FEAR will really have to impress come release time especially given the lackluster impression I took away from the demo.

Was it just me....or did anyone else think that the graphics in the demo were horrendous?

For an Xbox 360 game, it just wasn't what I expected...and the gameplay was pretty boring on top of it.

With a wife and kid to support, the days of buying games are long gone for me. I'll be buying Gears, but otherwise I'm a Gamefly guy.

But my brother-in-law loved F.E.A.R. on the PC, so it's in my queue. Plus, I was pretty blown away by the demo. AI that actually dives through windows to evade my bullets? That's pretty sweet.

Meh. I'm passing. I'll be getting GoW and R6:Vegas instead. That's enough shooters for me. But JRW is right -- they shouldn't be selling this one for more than $50, being as it's a port of a year-old game that you can pick up for $30 most places. With all the sweet games coming out next month, this one is gonna wind up near the bottom of the heap.

Nate: I'm with you. The graphics in the demo were not "next-gen" by any means. The fact that this is a shoddy port and they aren't including the Expansion Pack I am going to pass on this game completely. And considering what's being released in Nov. I see this title not doing well at all with this price point.

I'll be going with Half.com to get this one in about 3 months... when a game's been out for a year already - I can wait 3 more months for it to be much cheaper.

Besides I've only put in 65 hours in Oblivion and feel like I have only completed about 1/2 of that... damn that game is long.

Actually, it may be of interest to some to know that the full multiplayer element of FEAR for PC is available free in the form of F.E.A.R combat:

And yes this is the full multiplayer element with all the levels and servers.
It's just ok really, though some levels are quite well designed and creepy.

1. GOW
2. Call of Duty 3
3. Rainbow Six 3
4. FEAR

I might switch up FEAR and RB6. Depends on reviews of FEAR. I agree $40 they would have sold 2x the copies.

My list changed a bit from before, as I removed NFS: Carbon, because I hated the drifting portion of the demo. I also zapped Phantasy Star Online, and Sonic because the demos did not appeal to me.

As it is now.....
The following are already pre-ordered and paid.

Gears of War
Call of Duty 3
Dead or Alive Xtreme 2
Bioshock
Lost Planet
HD-DVD unit.

Others I am considering purchasing
Viva Pinata
WWE Smackdown Vs. RAW 2007
Rainbow Six....the demo was great.
Star Trek: Legacy
Alan Wake
Blue Dragon (as soon as I can pre-order this puppy, I will)

Hmmm I do agree this holiday season will be expensive.

F.E.A.R. ranks in my priorities list just below Viva Pinata ... Actually, way below it. I'll actually buy Viva Pinata. It isn't because F.E.A.R. is a year old, that its a port, or even that its $60. It just that its another shooter. Against Rainbow Six: Vegas and Gears of War (and Call of Duty 3, for that matter) what is there to attract me to F.E.A.R.? The "psychological" scares? Puh-lease; I'm married.

This one is on the lower end for sure. So many interesting fps titles coming out to be concerned with. GoW & COD3 are top billing with R6 too.

I can't see myself in a hurry to spend $60 on a game I liked and thus played through on pc. Especially with the free pc multiplayer out there. They should have sweetened the deal a bit more.

it's not on my list. I won't play old PC ports on a console they weren't designed for. Halo2 May pull it off (Maybe) but old PC > 360 games do nothing for me.

Selling it for MORE than the PC launch price (I'm pretty sure it was $50 new for the PC, and if not new than within the first month) is way past ballsy, and straight into greedy. FEAR got priced at $60 because if they price "new" titles (new refering to the system, not the game) below the $60 price point, gamers will come to expect prices to go back down to the more reasonable $50 overall. And the studios don't want that.

What puzzles me is this myth that these newer games cost more because they are so much more complex. PC games have been generations ahead of consoles for years, and will always continue to be so. Yet most PC games debut for $50 (with rare hyper-anticipated titles hitting at $60 and dropping shortly there-after). And on the whole, PC games are more complicated to code, because you're not dealing with just one specific piece of hardware that the game can be fine tuned for. Though in the studios' defense, making games on a NEW console is a bit of a challenge, due to the relative inexperience with the platform.

But $60 for a port of a game that already made a healthy chunk of profit? Give me a break.
