To anwser your question...its just a marketing tactic.
The PS3, 360, and Wii are not revolutionary consoles. Transitioning from 2D to 3D is revolutionary. The Wii is on the right track with implementing the new control scheme. The Wii is a few steps below revolutionary. The PS3 is closer than the 360 because of the sixaxis controller. I think a virtual reality gaming is revolutionary but we still have a few years before we can have that type of gaming on our couch.

The reason why the tagline revolutionary is next to the Xbox 360 was that Microsoft paid someone in Walmart to put that there. Simple.

The reason why Microsoft choose pretty much a completly random word like revolutionary was to try to slow down the hype of the Wii when it was called the revolution. Simple.

Also when Microsoft says anything about changing the face of gaming ignore them. They don't care, and they never will. At least with Sony they have a valid reason to be a part of the gaming industry.

If you don't know what I am talking about and are getting angry read some history on the industry, specifically the exact reasons why Sony and Microsoft jumped into the gaming industry.

Back on topic. This sort of news doesn't affect us and some of the more less educated individuals here will think this means nothing. What this will make a huge difference to is the casual gaming market, the ones who don't spend hours on the internet like us and know every concievable news point in the industry. For the brief moment that typo was there somebody would of thought that indeed the PS3 only costed 300. Then as he rechecked or went to the store to get one and saw the actual price he won't blame walmart, he will blame Sony for jacking the price, since that is his own small bubble of reality is telling him.

Which is why we all have a civic duty as gamers to tell every lax gamer and casual gamer out there in the world how much Sony will be screwing them come at launch and they should stay the hell away.

Oh I completely know why XBox is out...and I know most of the XBox hype in the world is created by MS and MS employees. People consider the GameCube a failure, why, cause they sold 20 Million units, around the same number as XBoxs? And 360 was only released in 2005 cause they had no titles to keep it up until this year.

And with the mind of "our duty" to tell them of the price...it isn't it "our duty" to point out lies in stuff, like how 360 ISN'T revolutionary? Just a way to open up some people's eyes who just assumed.


and to #48...Wii is revolutionary in terms of current gen systems. and you are right, Virtual reality is the ultimate revolution but I wouldn't expect to see that from Nintendo for maybe 10 years. Yes I say Nintendo cause they are the innovators of video games. That isn't fanboyism, but fact!

If anyone ordered it, they might actually get it. Back in the day, I ordered Unreal Championship 2 for the Xbox when it was on the site for $20...they supposedly cancelled my order because it was a pricing error, but about a week after the game came out and I bought a copy at retail, the game came in the mail, and my card was never charged. Awesome.

It does say "FROM $299". I wonder what the $299 "PS3 ultra core Walmart edition" includes? CD-ROM drive, in a cardboard box, with a refurbished wired DualShock 1 controller?

Or maybe just stuff a silver PS2 in the box? ;)

what's annoying me is that this a mistake from WalMArts web diesinger and people are making it sound like it's Sony's fault. Seems like alot of people suck up to Joystiq's joystiq because every little thing about the PS3 they gotta out it out. Now it seems like they have no life, We all already know the PS3's so why put this out.

hehehe, its always good to see someone call another person a "tool box". Seriously, I always thought that phrase was funny and I am glad to see it brought back...especially against one of the many pricks around here who constantly try to deflect anti-Sony sentiment with "lol, joo can't afford PS3 is all, you poor, you get job!!! getjob!".

As a note, that is the stupidest comment ever and it is downright insulting for those of who do have a job, and do make money, but have other expenses that limit our budgets. The price is an issue, and it should be.

I can see how the Sony hate may seem overwhelming to some. Hell, I have a psone and a ps2 and was looking forward to the the ps3. I never wanted to see sony take shit like this but they are offering gamers a whole laundry list of things to be pissed at them for these days. They brought this on themselves, and when they are criticized, they respond with arrogance and denial.

I'm sorry if you are still a loyal Sony fan or if you just don't care about all this console war BS, but Sony hate will exist, strongly, until they start producing positive PR.

And bye the way the Wii is the only revolutionary console. The PS3
and 360 has awesome graphics (at least the 360 does) still waiting for
something that ACTUALY looks as good as gears of war on it. But didn’t
Microsoft release the motion detecting controller first on the PC? Yep!
Is not the best graphics on the 360 without them using more that one of the
Six CPU threads? Yep! Isn’t there only ONE CPU on the PS3 with 7 SPE

But they all have a strong point. The 360 has better polygon processing
power and Bus Band with, and graphics processor. The Wii has the better
controller (even though they are not first with a motion controller) and
they have a cheap system. The PS3 has the Built in blu-ray for people
that will like to use it instead of a stand alone system. HD-DVD
always looks better than Blu-ray for now(until someone can figure
out the video noise problem, Someone!). But the Blu-ray has potential
to store 50gig. (not sure if that will actually Happen commercially for
more than a few months just like dvd had 17.7gig Many years ago but
is not on the market now). But it is still potential, I know that word is
getting old but this time it could happen at least.
